The Wolf, The Owl, And The Cheshire Part 5

Printer-friendly version

“Owe!” Nick rubs his shoulder after firing the rifle they took off the hunters.

“Did you hurt yourself?” Cheshire looks at Nick with a smirk on her face.

Unlike Jack and Nick, she had reverted to how she looked when she was younger. So, she knew what her body could do.

“Yes, I think I dislocated my shoulder.” Nick knew how to fire a rifle, but the body he had been given was having a hard time handling the rifle.
Jack looks at the people they are ambushing. Some of the traps they set, had taken a reduced how many they had to deal with. He knew they had split up to come at them from different angles.

Cheshire is surprised by a person dressed all in black custom armor. He swings his sword at her, as she parries with the rifle she was using. She parries again as he tries to strike her. She feels his fist connect with her jaw. She couldn’t believe he struck her.

She moves in close to prevent him from using his sword and goes on the offensive against him. She couldn’t use any of her atemi abilities, but she had more tricks up her sleeve. She uses the hunting knife she took from the hunter they killed.

She manages to stab the guy in between the gaps in the body armor. She had to put a lot of force behind the stab to make the knife go through the material, but she managed to do it. She knew she was frustrating the guy because with her as close as she was, he couldn’t strike her.

Jack was hit from behind by a bullet. Luckily, it went cleanly through his right shoulder, instead of getting stuck. He dives to the side and manages to find cover as he looks for the shooter. The shot came from up in the trees.

He takes the spike he made and tosses it towards the person. It didn’t embed in the shooter's shoulder like he hoped it would. Two more shots hit the tree he was hiding behind.

Jack looks around him and notices he has nothing he could use. He watches as the shooter aims at him. He grabs a handful of ground just before the shooter pulls the trigger. He tosses it up in the air and moves.

Jack hears the sound of gunfire but doesn’t feel anything. He looked where the shooter had been and didn’t see him.

“You should see your face right now, Jack.” There was a smirk on Nick’s face.

“Thanks. How’s Cheshire?” Jack looks around for his friend.

“I’m okay.” Cheshire comes walking over to Jack and Nick.

She was limping and had blood streaming down into her eyes from a gash on her forehead. She managed to take out her attacker, but it took a lot to do it.

“You’re not fine, Ches.” Jack walks over and takes care of Cheshire.

“Looks who talking, Jack.” Nick noticed where Jack got shot.

“I’ll be fine, Nick.” Jack cleans Cheshire’s face and head wound.

“We need to get a move on.” Nick knew the hunters were regrouping to rush them.

“Take what you can.” Jack snags what supplies and weapons he can from the sniper.

Cheshire with Nick’s help, snatches what they could from the person who attacked her and Nick snatches what he could from the person he fought. By the time the other group of hunters converged on them, they were gone.

Jack was gritting his teeth as they ran. Cheshire was doing her best not to slow them down. Blood kept weeping from her head wound. Nick hung back to protect Jack and Cheshire. He had a stitch in his side and wished he had his original body back. The female body he was in, didn’t have the endurance he was used to.

The three of them managed to find a place they could hide. It was near a pool of fresh water and looked like an old Japanese listening post had once been stationed on the island they were on. There was a bunch of abandoned radio gear and such still there, but none of it looked to be in working order.

“This place looks like something from World War II.” Nick recognized the layout and the equipment.

“Which only confirms we're in the South Pacific.” Jack was busy bandaging Cheshire’s head wound.

“Jack, did this Sataria person ever go after your family?” Cheshire needed to know if her family was in danger.

“At the time, we had nothing to worry about. However, now that we have families. She might go after them. She’s a very vindictive person.” Jack and Nick were both concerned about Sataria going after their families.

“If she goes after my family. I’ll make it my purpose in life to kill her.” Cheshire was getting more and more protective of her family.

“We’ll join you.” Nick would make sure Sataria would pay for her actions.

It looks like it's getting harder

For them to fight & hide. Maybe there is something at the listening post they can use, or by chance a big jungle cat comes wondering around and Cheshire uses her new abilities to help their chances by having the cat help them as recon. & or intimidation, and maybe each of their spirit animal make an appearance at some point in this story.
