Chapter 37 – Celebrations

Metamorphosis

The vans had driven five hours from the meeting site to the Topiary Genetics facility without incident. The group exited the vehicles and was quickly brought through the painted steel door.

Hailey turned the men over to Dr. Erin McCullough, she then staggered to staff quarters for some much needed rest.

Erin assigned each of the men to what looked like standard double occupancy hospital rooms. Staff members handed them each a set of pajamas close to their size and a sedative as they moved toward their rooms.

Mum and I had indeed had a talk. She had told me not to get drawn in by boys because I was in a vulnerable state. I had told her that she had nothing to worry about which she didn't believe and neither did I if I was being honest.

I went to bed after talking to Gaby about my stupidity at which point she told me that lots of women sabotage their own relationships because 'it's too good to be true'. She really was the perfect sister.

I considered telling them who I was but I didn't want to cause a scene if they reacted poorly. Nobody would accuse Mick of being the most level headed member of society. Clinton seemed to be a different case. He wasn't at all like Mick and I wondered if they were friends solely because they were on the same team.

There may be a few bits and pieces lifted word-for-word from the canon material. I tried to do that as little as possible, though, but there's a lot more in this one than usual because it was unavoidable. Still, lots of details are changed, so don't skip by familiar parts or you might miss something.

"Oh my God, Jo" My sister said as she barged into my room like she always did. "You're okay" she said as she hugged me.

"Hey, sis" I said forcing a weak smile as she sat on my bed.

"I came as soon as I heard" she said kissing my forehead before hugging me again "When I heard they'd found you..." her voice trailed off

"I'm okay" I said as I hugged her back.

She let go and put her hands on my shoulder "Let me look at you" She used her finger to push some rogue hair away from my face.

"How? How did they find you?"

Mikey had woken me up a few minutes ago. I hadn't remembered falling asleep on the beach. I don't think I ever stopped crying. I tried and failed multiple times to get myself together. 'Who cries this much over a fight they supposedly won?'
My face still stung where I'd been hit twice before and my tears had eventually dried on my face.

"Jo?" I heard Mikey say as he tapped me lightly. "Come eat something, please" He said when I eventually opened my eyes.

Tracy teaches Greg some new tricks and then introduces him to her friends.

“I hate you, Yukimura!” Setsuko screeched at the top of her lungs, flinging two kunai at her de facto husband’s head.

I had an idea for a story set in Winnisimmet, Massachusetts, so I bounced it off of efindumb and after a bit of discussion, he said that he would consider allowing this to be a Winnisimmet Tales story. I've spent the last 48 hours adjusting some bits to his approval.

So here is the start of a brand new Winnisimmet Tales story, I intend it to be novel length overall, so there will be much more to write.

My thanks go out to efindumb for allowing me to play in his universe, I hope I do it justice.

It was a short walk to the caves but a painful one nontheless. I understood why I had to wear the clothes. I understood that if there were more clothes recovered, they wouldn't have me do this. Maybe if some more clothes wash up, I could go back to wearing mens' clothes but that did nothing to assuage my fears. I just didn't want to feel any less like a man than I already did.

"What?" I say I didn't expect her to say that, plus ...I thought I did a pretty good job.

"You were using your teeth a little too much and not focusing enough effort on the "head", the most sensitive part."

Chapter 4

“NO Way. Your face, your nose. I don't like saying this, but Laurence had a really ugly nose, it sort of dominated his face. You do have the same eyes though.” She leaned forwards and sort of squinted, really examining me closely. My green eyes are relatively unique, but I was beginning to get a bit worried. I didn't know her that well. I couldn't tell her stories from a shared past or talk about a weirdly shaped birthmark that she would have no knowledge of. Maybe my disguise was a bit too good. At least I could explain what happened to my nose.
