Midweek from GOC

for the last time! Well for now, i shall be back.

Its been quite an eventful month, one that i'd rather not repeat although there have been some good days, but on Friday i will be back on a bus to Brizzle. Things with father have settled down, his time in the convalescent home will depend on the physio so there is no necessity for me to stay longer, my brother should be about for visiting purposes from Friday. The other thing delaying my return south has been my back, its not right yet but i should manage the journey without too much discomfort by travel time.

Well this is a new one, to me anyway

This is probably nonsense, but it is a theory I had not heard about trans folk. This is about the effect of pollution on gender.

Recent evidence indicates that phthalates from plastic and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are one of many factors predicting gender dysphoria, particularly in the case of male-to-female transgenders.

Polluted groundwater yields ambiguous genitalia for vulnerable species. The modern human environment is replete with substances that mimic sex hormones. Could these chemicals play a role in contemporary gender fluidity?

Very balanced article in Observer/Guardian

Blog About:

Author:

There is at least one balanced view on the recent hysteria of transwomen invading women-only spaces, this is well written article quoting evidence to support her view that trans women are likely to be more vulnerable and to have received more abuse than cis gendered women and that instead of being exclusive we should all be supporting each other to protect ourselves from predatory men, which isn't a diatribe against men, just those who abuse and murder all types of women and vulnerable groups.

Do read it, it's really good stuff.

A Preview of Things to Come

Heya folks!

I've been trying to help out with some formatting and the like for DopplerPress books, and I just wanted to share some of my excitement for what we've got in the pipeline with everyone. However, rather than just TELLING you what's coming down the way, I thought it would be more fun to make you guess!

So, here's the deal:

Ladies Get toGether this Sunday

Blog About:

Author:

I’m inviting you to my weekly Sunday Zoom meeting. Only trans women are invited. If you have an invite feel free to invite others I include a link to my local time standard so that you might match it up to yours, Some of the ladies in the past are from Great Britain and Germany. Most of them are writers who post stories on a Big Closet Top Shelf though that this is no way a requirement.

To help identify the meeting time with your time zone use this link:

Sunshine - with a catch

Yep, the ten day forecast suggests we are keeping the bright weather for a bit, we might even reach 25c! The downside is an almost constant stiff breeze, not exactly a Mistral but annoying nevertheless.

British Cycling to ban transgender women from competing in female category

Blog About:

Author:

I think we all saw this coming.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/65718748

Under a new participation policy that the governing body said was "predicated on fairness", such athletes will compete in an 'open category' with men.

Female races will be "for those whose sex was assigned female at birth".

The changes will prevent riders such as Emily Bridges potentially being part of the British women's team.

BCTS Data Breach ???

Caution:

Blog About:

So, I was just cruising the web this afternoon when suddenly I was at a site that I did not recognize that had about 25 or more photos. One caption said that it was the server room on the east coast and another caption said BCTS. I don't know what was going on and it seems to have cleared now. I had previously visited a site called "Chat GPT" that did not interest me, so I left. I don't know if this caused BCTS any grief and if it did, I am sorry.

So this is summer!

Okay, so strictly speaking its still spring but with blue skies and long days it feels like summer.

Yep, the weather continues to stay quite warm and sunny and the forecast is for more of the same for the next week as we head to the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.

it didn't take Bud Light long to back down

Blog About:

Author:

Well, it didn't take Bud Light long to back down from its support of a trans influencer.

"Bud Light’s parent company Anheuser-Busch attempted to assure investors that everything is fine — even though everything most certainly isn’t — and it would get back on track.

Anheuser-Busch CEO Michel Doukeris distanced the company from transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney as sales of the beer continue to plummet.

'We need to clarify the facts that this was one can, one influencer, one post and not a campaign,' Doukeris said during an earnings call."

I'm not trying to create controversy or seem snarky in my first ever blog. As an American, I don't understand why my English sisters and brothers still have this tradition. Without putting down us 'across the pond' sisters, do most English still want to hold on to the Monarchy? I don't believe anyone still thinks it is ordained of God, or that all the Kings, Queens, Knights, Prince, Princesses, Dukes, Duchesses, etc. are anything special. I will own up to watching live in awe at the wedding of Charles and Diana back in 1981.

Hate in Texas

Blog About:

Spent a long and interesting day at the Texas legislature. Bigots in the Leg have piled on to the Red State Hate Wagon and are preparing to pass a law to prohibit treating trans kids and making any doctor who did a felon. My wife and I simply had to be there to protest.

All I can say is that I am in awe of her. Montana is a very hostile state to trans and for her get elected in the first place is already a huge accomplishment but I am sure she knew going in this is going to create tsunami level waves.

The fact that she has been 'cancel cultured' and her rights as well as the constituents she is representing are being taken away just shows what the opposition is made of.

Scientists in Japan have created mice with two biologically male parents for the first time.

The team, led by a professor of genome biology at Osaka University in Japan, generated eggs from the skin cells of male mice.

When implanted into female mice, the eggs produced healthy pups, according to research published this month in the journal Nature.

The proof-of-concept research could expand the possibilities for future fertility treatments, including for same-sex couples.

Huge rise in the number of girls seeking referrals to gender clinics.

Blog About:

Author:

I always assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that the majority of transgender folk were MTF and that there were very few FTM.

This article says.

NHS England, 10 years ago there were just under 250 referrals, most of them boys, to the Gender Identity Development Service (Gids), run by the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust in London.

Trans Athletes by the Numbers

I have lived in the world of numbers (insurance) for decades.

I have great respect for the law of large numbers. It states that if you repeat an experiment independently a large number of times and average the result, what you obtain should be close to the expected value.

Happy Eostre

No, its not a spelling mistake, its the name of the Anglo Saxon goddess of fertility who was honoured @ the Spring Equinox each year - yep Easter is yet another celebration adopted by the Christian church to appease the non believers.

Trans Women and Sport

Blog About:

Author:

I know this divides trans women. This is just my take on the problem.

The whole thing about trans women is sport is too complex. Sports people are very competitive and will complain about the tiniest thing they think is unfair.

What is a trans woman? Someone that has had full surgery, has the same hormone levels as the average woman and has not gone through male puberty. Or a fully intact male that has no intention of taking hormones and having surgery?

Life imitates art, ahem, the bit I wrote about bees in Bike last night

Blog About:

Author:

I wrote about bees as possibly having self-awareness, now these tiny marvels, featured in research by an American scientist, seem to show this in spades leading them to reconsider how the laws in America don't protect these intelligent insects (they don't protect mammals much either compared to the UK) and how they need changing. I read Chittka's book last year, it was fascinating and now this American scientist, Stephen Bucchman, feels the same towards them. The article is interesting and easy to read.
