Launuru said little in the carriage on the way back to the wizard's house. She was thinking about her reaction when Kazmina had suggested that she change back into the man she'd been when she hired the room. It had been as appalling to her just now as the idea of becoming a woman had been when Kazmina suggested it two days ago. If that were so, how could she ask Tsavila to marry her, promising to become a man again soon?

The rest of Sunday passed without much happening. In mid-afternoon, Harold, Justin and Tom had a barbecue in the backyard. Harold had taken coarse-ground, lean burger meat and mixed it with onion soup mix and Worcestershire sauce. One burger had no mix-in, just for Tom, who shouldn't have onions or salt in his diet.

Justin cut up lettuce, spinach and tomatoes for a salad, served with a dressing made of olive oil and garlic-flavored vinegar. The buns were quickly toasted on the fire, too, then slathered with mayo, mustard and ketchup. A handful of potato chips each and a serving of iced tea made a very satisfying meal with cookies for dessert. Tom even got part of one cookie since they were oatmeal with no raisins or chocolate.

16 years ago, 2-year-old Louise McSweeney was taken from her home, during the night.

CHAPTER 18
It was Neil who drove me to the airport in the end, Mam eased into the front seat of his car, and it was an emotional farewell in the car park as I insisted she didn’t walk into the terminal building. I wanted to be in control, and tears were not something I wanted photographed at the security gate.

Synopsis: After witnessing the death of her father Jessica is emotionally scattered and trying her best to hold things together. Although the relationship that the two of then shared was unhealthy, she still loved him and watching him die had been almost more then she could handle.

Sarah Roberts had also taken the death of her husband hard. Their marriage might have been over, but she had still loved Jake Roberts. She felt bad that her daughter had to witness something so horrendous and was worried about her.

Which is a welcome thing from the replaying of everything that has been going on in my head since the battle against that Technarch killing machine. The girls sent Patrick my way and while it wasn’t the way that I pictured losing my virginity…it was still better than I had imagined.

Von was back in Hampshire a couple of days afterwards, so I had to fit in a trip down on the Monday, a day she wasn’t at work and I was able to squeeze a day’s leave in. I walked out of the Harbour station, HMS Warrior bulking beside it, and round to Gunwharf Quay, where I found her sitting in one of the coffee bars.
