Bears Know Best

Part 28 of 28

Edited by Carla Ann

Thirteen year-old Taylor Landt’s step-mother believes that he should be the next great football player for the high school he’ll be attending in the fall. Having a dad who is an accomplished professional linebacker, and growing up surrounded by professional football coaches and players should all but guarantee his ability to dominate on the field. Unfortunately he hates playing football, and knows his height and build will never allow him to be successful at the sport. Faced with an obsessive step-mother who ignores his obvious talents in other areas but instead thinks he is a blight on his father’s reputation, Taylor does the unthinkable and moves to Ohio to live with his mother who abandoned their family and left him with his father eight years ago.

Soon after his arrival, Taylor discovers there’s more to his inability to follow in his fathers’ footsteps than just his height. Will it be possible for him to make friends in a new town in the middle of nowhere outside the shadow of his dad's fame? Will Taylor be able to finally make peace with his mother who abandoned them all those years ago? And how long can he keep his secrets to himself?

Accidental New Life - Part 8/8

Faith laughed, “No daughter, I have a lot of work to do, and I don’t have time to take time off.”

“I’m at your disposal, of course.”

Faith nodded, “I need you to find me one more for him for now: someone who is powerful, just like your great great granddaughter.”

“What persona is he seeking next? As far as I know he can’t have Death, which also means he can’t have access to the spirit world, so no analogues to Kris.”

And like I said we’ve all drawn steel and Damon’s flipped the table between me and him blocking my view of him.

Okay…in the few scant seconds I need to think.

Is he going for cover?
Is he going to run?
Is he going to shoot me through the table?

He stabbed Jade who was a friend in cold blood.

I lean/fall back and just in time as he’s palm snapping the hammer and there’s bits of table flying over me as his bullets whiz past me as I fall backwards and one’s close enough to take my hat off my head.

Chapter 59

I get myself ready with a light shower and just getting into some comfortable underwear and stuff as the girls are getting ready to head over to Dad’s we’re having Sunday dinner there and hopefully it’ll be a weekly thing. Two more mouths to feed too and they’re guys. The roast is big enough as long as I make extras of the other stuff.

Chapter 21

Mom drives and we’re quiet at first as we drive through the rain and pass buy a few places mostly chain food places. Some’s not bad I like Dairy Queen and Burger king if for burgers because a good burger should be flame broiled. A&W is good buy shy works there and so that’s out of the question. We actually settle for Fu-lamb’s Kitchen a mom and pop Chinese place.

I like Chinese and it’s one of those foods where you have the places around but you just don’t end up eating there often.

Tracy looked around the room. The room was big enough to fit two twin sized beds in it, plus a desk, thin, but tall dresser, bookcase and a bean-bag chair. Tracy pondered moving things around for a moment, but then decided against it. “I don't want to change your house all around.”

Frank got down on one knee and looked her in the eyes. “Tracy, this is your house, till your parents get here. You want to nail the beds to the ceiling, we'll do it. I don't know if it will hold, but we'll do it.” She giggled at the thought of a bed on the ceiling.

Duty Calls chapter 08-31+

When our connecting flight from Bangkok finally arrived at ‘Tan’* we quietly made tracks. We managed to successfully return to our own area, while barely avoiding a work detail or two which Trank happened to note were forming up shortly after we arrived. Even at our own compound he was working point.

“Dad? Do you mind?” Maggie asked her father.

“Not at all. We talked about it this morning. I can help Conner around the property and she can help make sure that everything is in order down there.”

“Also, I haven't seen Shelly in almost ten years.” Bernice admitted. “I've missed her being around all the time, like when we lived in Castro Valley, when you were Tracy's age.”

Kris and Marry took that moment to appear in Bethany’s office, “Or we can have it now?” Kris smiled. “Sorry we weren't eavesdropping, but I felt something here, and I had to make sure Bethany was ok.”

Bethany leapt from Faith’s arms, right into Kris and Marry’s. Kris grunted a little, but Marry giggled and knelt to kiss Bethany’s cheek.

“I’ve never felt anything like that. It was like his very presence here was poisoning me.”

Kris frowned at that, turning to Faith as she stood, her chair vanishing again. “I thought no mortal could harm us? … He was mortal right?”

Some days prayers are answered 2

So this is my first work of "fiction" and I don't have an editor so Please be kind. It's based loosely on a dream I had. I am writing it in chapters because I don't know how the whole thing will play out yet but I felt the need to post it. Chapter two is longer then the first and it was supposed to come tomorrow since my muse had abandoned me, but just when I thought I was going to bed she came back.

Chapter 12

Sophie and the whole thing really got into my head. I worked on my boxing bag last night until my hands and wrists were aching and my knees and shins were sore. I’m not really trained like for real but I’m sort of into kick boxing.

I had a long bath and spent another three hours in front of my Xbox trying to get things out of my head.

Really, c’mon I was obsessing over this like some girl. I might have the part but not the brain.

It was one twenty six when the plane landed in at Lester B. Pearson and two men got off the plane and made their way to the rental car stand and were soon on their way north by north west towards Harper’s Point.

They didn’t say much but drove hard and fast one twenty to one forty the entire way. The older of the two was familiar with the roads and highways here being Ontario born and bred.

“Oh cool, I’m glad you guys are still friends.” Angel smiled, “I think between her and her cousin Casey and I look down right sexy.” Taking a moment she added, “But even more so on my end.” sticking her tongue out at Casey.

Casey blushed bright red, causing the others to start giggling all over again.

Lacy piped in, “I think you went and broke her Angel.” She giggled.

Casey stuck out her tongue. “Hey, I’ve only been ‘out’ a day. I’m not exactly used to being called ‘sexy’!” she shot back, still blushing, but starting to giggle too.

I step over to Rayne and take her into my arms and hug her gently. “Surprise?”

“This…I never thought…you guys…” she talk sniffles.

Dad smiles. “No, it’s not a big deal. The place needed some TLC that’s all and as for your room you’ve been busy and hurting. Stuff like this gets to be just one big thing you have to do that you don’t have the heart and energy for. Besides Angel’s cooking one of my favorite meals and it’s always been something we did….have a big feed and get together and have a whole lot of hands to get things done.”

“I'm tired of hiding. I hate these clothes. I hate Troy.”

Tracy got up and began pulling off the shirt she had on, pulling it over her shoulders. Sage stood with her. “Stacey, get the door. Rachel, get a skirt from the closet and a matching blouse.” Sage asked their friends in hushed tones. Sage stopped her before she could completely remove her pants.

“Okay.” Rachel nodded.

Sage pulled Tracy into a hug. “So can I assume that Troy just said his final goodbye?”

Chapter *8.31*

Pointed Attack

That was something that even I thought was outside the box when Dad suggested it last night, it was certainly not a move that the rest of the race foresaw. The road curled around to the right and up, not hugely steep but no stroll either. Apparently we were following the ‘Deutches LimestraáŸe', whatever that is, we passed some tower thing then the road swung sharply left and the climb took on more urgency.
