Alex had a terminal Cancer diagnosis and thought she would die before she got to be the girl she always was inside. That all changes when she's in the wrong place at the right time and gets transported to another world and into the body of a girl. So what if she's not human, she's alive and a girl. Now if only she had her sister with her to navigate this new world and her new responsibilities. Wait, she's here too? She called me about three hours later, from Kuala Lumpur as Ish and I walked the Jurassic Mile.

“Arrived in one piece, love. Busy as, here. I’m heading for the exit in a few, but didn’t really want to have Mum earwigging this call. I’ll find somewhere quiet and call you tonight. About nine?”

“Ideal love. The lad can stay up that late, say hello. Bit of video so we can see your face?”

Chapter 10 Normal Teenager

Melissa somehow managed to make her connection for the flight home in Rome. The image of Jack meeting her at the airport was there front and center in her mind. Even being chatted up by two Italians on the long flight failed to get her to show some emotion other than contempt for them. She was lost in her own thoughts.

“Ex- excuse me?” The young woman asks, her facemask muffling her soft Yorkshire accent. “Can — can we get a selfie with you, please?” I allow myself a small chuckle as I turn to face the asker of the question — a girl barely older than sixteen, standing with three others of her age. All of them are wearing t-shirts with cartoon caricatures on the front and, even though I can’t see them, angel wing prints on the back, just like all t-shirts promoting the group I tried — and failed — to join.

Olivia Jean-Pierre's apartment felt like a carefully curated museum exhibit - "Modern College Student, Circa 2025." The small studio held all the expected trappings: a desk with a high-end laptop, a small kitchen area, tasteful decor that spoke of someone who'd read too many minimalist lifestyle blogs. Everything perfectly normal, perfectly planned.

DeShawn stood at the edge of the track, watching his teammates finish their cool-down laps. Even at rest, everything moved with a slight sluggishness - just enough to be irritating, like watching a video at 90% speed.

"DeShawn, my man!" Coach Martinez approached, tablet in hand. "Another record today. You're making history out here!"

The warmth she had felt in her dream lingered within her, a radiant glow flickering like a steadfast flame, eagerly awaiting her nurturing touch. No longer just a figment of her imagination, it had taken root within her, alive and vibrant, ready to be embraced.
