‘Look Jules I’m not forcing you to do anything and from what I’ve seen so far you’ve adapted quickly and it seems a shame not to explore more. Why not let the other side of you come out or at least join in for a few days. I think it will do us both good. What’s to lose?’

Martin was just looking for a costume. What he found was a whole new world and new possibilities.

Happy Halloween

Martin looked through the few racks of costumes one more time. It was still a week before the Halloween dance at the Student Union and all of the costume shops he had been to had been pretty much picked through. There were not many people looking for costumes now, they would have been through earlier in the week.

The junior staff members were discussing the situation as I walked in. “But this hallway was completely empty. There’s no way everyone was locked up.” It looks like I got here just in time, as Ms. Rahman’s comment was exactly what I was expecting. I was glad that the situation didn’t get a chance to escalate among the junior staff, so I can set matters straight without resistance.

Once released, Jorge again looked Erika up and down. “Can’t believe you were Eric Martin.” He shook his head in disbelief. “Did you get breast implants?”

Samantha and Tricia laughed.

“They are falsies.” Erika smirked. “They are glued on until I can grow my own.”

“Wow, they sure look real.”

“Stop staring at her breasts and start staring at mine.” Krystal slapped his arm.

“Yours are much prettier and real.” Jorge assured her.

This chapter is a bit short but it seemed like a natural break point so here it is.

Charlotte took a sip of her drink, looking at him over the rim of her glass. “Can you imagine what our kids would be like?”

“Honey, can I talk to you in private for a few minutes in the living room?” my mom asked me with a serious look on her face.

I was alarmed. “Okay.” I said rather hesitantly. My mom pointed to a chair in the living room. I sat down and she looked at me intensively for a few seconds.

“What did you and Samantha do and talk about the whole time?” she asked me. I did not like the concerned tone in her voice.

The sound of the tent flap being opened drew everyone’s attention to the tent. A gasp escaped every mouth as Krista walked out. A serene smile filled her bludgeoned purple face as her eyes seemed to be gazing off into the sky. Her bloody tank top and shorts added further evidence to the horrific blow she’d taken. Drs. Olsen’s and Sykes’ mouths dropped as they witnessed the medical impossibility.

We continue to see the boy's memories resulting from his mother's death, as well as some of the father's memories of his son.

I stayed in school that day, having missed one of my classes, my dad picked me up shortly after school ended.

We stayed home that evening, ordered in pizza, and watched a couple of movies. I wasn't paying a lot of attention to the movies, I don't even remember which ones they were, but several times, seeing a woman that looked vaguely like mom caused me to burst into tears.

His girlfriend loved him, except for one detail

“Markie, its not your fault. You and Mike did everything you could but not even the locals knew I was being held there… It was just luck he was so eager to beat on me that he didn’t wait for his garage door to open. I would have starved to death in that prison if that deputy hadn’t thought to check things out.” She stroked his check and then kissed it. “I’m touched by the Viking funeral. Thank you, both of you for that.”

“Grams lit the pyre.”

“You look fine. Leave the hem of the skirt alone.” Ellie placed her hand on my bare arm.

“It’s really short.” I say as I fidget with the fringes of my pleated skirt while trying to keep in stride with her on the walk to school.
