The Craigslist Killer Part 4

I lay there in stunned silence, my death sentence ringing in my ears. “I have H.I.V,” Ron just told me. How many times had I warned myself about the dangers of dating on Craigslist? How many guys had I blown off because of the teeniest suspicion that they might not be safe?

How much time did I have?

December already. Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat. I know it’s supposed to be a time of good cheer and everything, I really do, but…

Calvin was afraid as he walked into a store and looked around. He was a guy so he wasn’t sure what he was doing, but he was determined to do it. He braced himself as he saw an assistant approached him saying, “May I help you sir?”

“Yes, I need a dress.” He was deliberately being vague. He knew he would have to say it sooner or later.

“There are many fine dresses and gowns here. Do you know her size?” It was annoying work especially when a guy came in trying to buy a nice gown or dress for his girlfriend. They often didn’t know their girlfriends size and it made her work far more difficult and frustrating. She hoped this young man knew something that could help her find the right dress for her.

He smiled, decided to stop being afraid. If he was going to do this then he needed to do it. It was his choice after all. If he was going to blush and be a coward about it, he may as well walk away. He looked right into the woman s eyes, smiled softly and said, “You don't misunderstand ma'am. I want the dress for me. I have no clue about these sizes so I need help with finding a dress that will fit me and look beautiful. I usually wear a size 36 to 38 jeans, extra large tops. As you see, I am large and very athletic. I do wrestling and boxing. So can you help me?”

“Are you an author or professor or something?” she timidly asked. Credence had ridden on the elevator with him a dozen times and increasingly wondered about him. He seemed so dignified? What was this magnetism she felt for him? Maybe he was dangerous to her, could perhaps hurt her, take advantage of her or even kill her? Why did he never come to the potlucks? He was civil, even friendly to her but it had never gone beyond the usual pleasantries and a sentence or two.

Note from the author. These is the bare bones of a story I want to tell. I would like someone to help me with this as I am very inexperienced as a writer. I have this story in my head but not sure how to tell it. I hope it does not suck. I know I took some of our dark history and made it in the modern world.

We know that some of the characters presented here are unlikeable or appear to be unbelievable. That is the point though. People grow and learn through their experiences. And there is always hope for justice and punishment.

This is a fictional chronicle of a normal hardworking guy named Jack. The federal government made him an offer he couldn't refuse. All they asked was for Jack to go undercover to help the U.S. Government ensnare a terrorist.

Any resemblance of the characters depicted in the story to actual individuals is coincidental. All events are the sole responsibility of the author. None of the scenes in this story depict minors engaged in any sexual encounter.

This story has been previously posted on other sites. It is being posted here with a strong rewrite; some new chapters have been added. I had my BFF Monica Rose edit the material so it should be more readable. -- Marina

The announcement was clear and to the point.

“All services to the south are delayed by at least a further thirty, that’s Three Zero minutes. This is due to overhead line problems near Penrith.”

I thought to myself, ‘another bit of bad news after a totally shitty day. What more could go wrong?’.

This is just something that popped into my head while I was trying to fall asleep. I hope a few people here enjoy it.

The caution is only due to a fairly subdued reference, but I still felt it better to have the caution than to leave it out.

My eyes grow weary as I stand before the stone. I have visited it many times before.

The visits don't come easier as time passes by, only knowing what lies before me, to know what he had done for his country and fellow man.

I remember the years before. Days of playing catch out in open fields near our home, each having to run farther as we tried to best or outdo each and every throw.

A story about a mom we might wish we had, a father that describes our worst fears, and a personal resolution asserting self-identity.

Be careful what you wish for. If you're lucky, you just might get it!

(Sephrena asked me to do an epilogue to make sure it met all of the contest requirements, so here it is, hopefully squeaking in under the wire.)

Didn't it start right here? Facing only herself, nothing more and nothing less. Like with many changes, it all began with a simple question: What if...

For once, she hadn't brushed it away as an idle thought. For once, she had listened to that feeling inside. A little like how your legs could get stiff if you sat down too long, a part inside her had grown stiff from being cramped up. She needed to stretch out. Stretch the wings of her imagination and soar.

But that was before, and today was the day. It was time to be brave.

The original version of this story was written in 2002, and a few people weren’t happy with the Wizard appearing at the end of the story. It was bugging me, so here is a little rewrite sans the Wizard.

Last Halloween, my wife, Peggy, came up with a costume for me. Elvira. Yes it’s that Elvira. Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. But, that wasn't all. She and her girlfriend had found a body suit for me. A body suit that would make me a complete girl. And, boy did it make me a complete girl.

I have to tell on myself. I had thought I saw something somewhere on the site about a Halloween Story contest so I wrote this. Then after it was finished awhile ago, I found the link for the rules...it was from 2013! Ha! I laughed at myself and figured, what the heck, I'll post it anyway.
