I had no keys to get out, Sister Maria was now unconscious and bleeding profusely. She looked awful. What on earth do I do? First principles–try to stop bleeding. The knife was lying on the floor, I kicked it away, and ripped my way into the unconscious nun’s clothing. She had on a pretty cotton petticoat and I tore a strip off it and used it as a pressure pad against the wound, at the same time trying to pour blue light into her.

“Take my phone out of my bag and call the ambulance,” I called to Billie who was curled up like a ball on the carpet in front of the altar, whimpering.

“BILLIE,” I shouted and she stirred, “Get my mobile out and call the ambulance–NOW.”

She looked at me like a zombie, she stood up and promptly fainted. Oh shit with a capital F. The blood flow seemed to be easing, which might be because most of it was already out on the floor or in the nun’s clothing or because my efforts were paying off. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stop to check, call for help or check Billie–and all of this in front of the altar and the crucifix in the middle of it.

I looked up at the tortured figure on the cross and challenged it to help one of its followers. Then I laughed–what was I doing? I didn’t believe in fairy tales, and even if he’d stepped down from the cross and offered to call the ambulance, I wouldn’t have believed it.

However, a few minutes later, an event which could be interpreted as my prayer being answered–or just plain coincidence, which I prefer–a woman cleaner walked in and I called her to help.

“Jesus, mother of God, what’s happened–you’ve killed her.”

“No I haven’t, but if we don’t get help she could die, please, in my bag use my phone to call for an ambulance.”

“I don’t like to go into another woman’s bag,”

“This is an emergency–please?”

“Oh this is a nice phone, one of them blackcurrants. What do I do?”

“Just dial 999 and ask for the ambulance.”

Eventually, she did and within minutes sirens could be heard approaching. “What happened to this one–you killed two of them?”

“That’s my daughter and she’s fainted.”

Billie sat up and promptly vomited all over herself and her school uniform. It was going to be one of those days.

The paramedics came dashing in, the cleaner managed to get it together enough to let them in and they rushed over to her. “What happened?”

“She got stabbed, the knife is over there.”

“Okay, let’s have a look.” He pulled the pad off the wound and looked at it and then at me. “Okay, where’s the entry wound?”

“Under the pad.”

He removed the pad and asked again, “Where?” I looked and the skin was intact.

He then shook her and she opened her eyes. “Can you hear me?” he said to her loudly.

“No need to shout, help me up.”

“What happened?” he asked her.

“I was doing the flowers when I had a terrific nosebleed and must have fainted. I think I had a knife with me, I didn’t fall on it did I?”

“No ma’am, it’s over here,” he pointed.

“So what happened to your dress?” he asked.

“Nothing, oh Lady Cameron, what are you doing here?” she winked at me.

“I came to see you, headmistress.”

“What’s this about stabbings?” asked the paramedic while his colleague connected her up to an electric sphygmomanometer. He showed his senior colleague. “Your BP is okay. If you’d been stabbed it wouldn’t be, that’s for sure–especially where this lady thought the wound was–that would have been straight into your liver. Major bleed.”

They did a quick ECG and that was normal too.

“I can’t figure this out, there’s enough blood here for a major incident, yet you seem fine–I think we ought to take you in for a check up.”

“No, I’m fine, I get the odd funny turn, overdoing it the doc says, I have to see her in the morning, I’ll be okay, really I will.”

“And this knife is yours?”

“Yes, I brought it in here–it’s an old kitchen knife.”

“You’re sure no one tried to attack you?”

“I’m positive. I had a nosebleed, see.” She had certainly had blood come out of her nose but not from a nosebleed.

“Okay, if you get any more symptoms dial triple nine.”

“Sorry, I must have misunderstood the situation.” I said blushing.

“Yeah, it happens. This your kid?”

I nodded.

“What happened to her?”

“She fainted when she saw the blood. Then she was sick–squeamish I suppose.”

His colleague looked her over. “She’s okay, just a bit smelly–any probs get her to the hospital or your doctor. She’s okay now.”

“Thank you, and I’m sorry for what was obviously a wild goose chase.”

“No prob,” he said, he did his paperwork and they left.

“Mrs Fitzwalter, could you clean up the mess–that’ll be all for tonight.”

“Of course, Headmistress, ‘ad me all a flutter for a bit.”

“I’ll–um–take my phone back, if you don’t mind.”

“They’re nice, them blackcurrants, in they?”

She put my phone back in my bag and I helped the headmistress stand up, she seemed remarkably calm. I washed my hands in the vestry or whatever they call it, and we wiped some of the sick off Billie who was still whimpering. Then Sister Maria led us back to her house, where she asked me to make some tea while she showered and changed and then got Billie to do the same–she went and got some clothes from the lost property cupboard.
We talked as we drank the tea, and Billie sat quietly on the sofa.

“Thanks for helping me out there,” she said.

“Me helping you? It was either Billie or I who’d have been charged with murder or manslaughter. I think you waking up like that and thinking so clearly, did us more favours.”

“No, Lady Catherine, it is I who must thank you. Okay, the incident was an accident, I tried to grab the knife and frightened her. Then as I slipped away–and I was dying–I saw you fighting to save my life–and the colour of the energy that surrounded you was just beautiful–only God could enable you to do that–I know you don’t believe, but his generosity isn’t limited to those who believe, because sometimes they aren’t worthy of it.”

I went to interrupt but she gestured me to be quiet.

“I don’t know if I died or not, but I saw Our Lord and He told me I was in safe hands–so for that alone, it was worth a little pain. Then I sort of dreamt I saw this wondrous woman, who told me that she was with you. I asked her her name but if she gave it, I’ve forgotten.”

“Shekinah,” I said quietly.

“Yes, of course, Old Testament stuff. She also told me that you were special but you wouldn’t listen to her, and that she’d had to organise the excitement today to get your attention, because you don’t listen to her.”

“I think it might just be a bit of shock, making you dream vividly.”

“She said you’d deny it.”

“Well let’s face it, who in their right mind would nearly cause one of my children to kill herself, then stab you and have you nearly die so you could drift in delirium and imagine you saw her–especially when a stamp is only thirty four pence.”

“You’re not taking this seriously, are you?”

“You were unconscious–it was endorphins or low blood pressure–you imagined it.”

“Why can’t you accept what I’m saying, instead of pooh-poohing it?

“Because I don’t believe it, I’m not belittling your experience–if you think you saw Jesus–good for you.”

“You know the name Shekinah, don’t you?”

“I did lots of Bible study when I was a kid–part of the reason I see it all as gibberish now. All of this stuff is still rattling round my brain somewhere.”

“What if it isn’t?”

“You mean, if it’s real?”

“Yes, because I think it is.”

“It might be for you, but I’m sorry, even if it were; but how could I believe in someone or thing who caused harm to my daughter and to you–nah, they can go to hell for all I care.”

“But it’s your destiny, Cathy.”

“Nonsense, there is no destiny unless you say each one of us will die, that’s all our destiny–and the successful ones will reproduce as well. That’s it.”

“You sound like Dr Dawkins.”

“He plays my tune–I whole heartedly agree with him–opium of the masses and all that.”

“You realise that if you don’t take notice, the Shekinah will do something you can’t ignore?”

“I wouldn’t bet on that.”

“Oh, I’d stake every penny I own on it–it’s sure as eggs is eggs.”

“I have to go,” I rose from the table, “have to get this one to see Dr Cauldwell.”

“Heed what I said, if you ignore her, she’ll make you listen and today’s incident will be like a picnic.”

Wellll!!!! I suppose that's

Wellll!!!! I suppose that's such a warning, but the Cathy doesn't pay attention to warnings. Wonder who is gonna buy it now?

You just can't resist it, can you?

Making a call on a blackcurrant has to cost less than I'm paying for my Samsung.

Oh-oh, messing with godesses is not a good idea. Methinks troubled times are ahead.

Nice one, gang.

I used to have...

Actually, I guess I still have my crackberry (it's silver, so I can't call it a black berry or a black currant). But, I got started on the original ones - when they were e-mail devices only... They've come a long way since. Now, I've a droid and I'm coming to the conclusion it is the droid I was looking for. :-)

Thanks for saving folks before I went off on Holiday (Vacation for those of us on this side of the pond). Wish me luck as I spend the next few days in the company of my parents, including about four (4) hours in the car, tomorrow.

Thanks,
Anne

Mission impossible?

Opening Cathy's mind to the possibility of the supernatural before Shekinah takes more drastic measures.

Ideally, someone needs to have a liaise with the deity and work out some form of (preferably non-violent) demonstration that cannot be rationalised away (that in itself would be a major challenge, since Cathy seems to be the only person in this tale who believes there's a perfectly logical, natural electromagnetic explanation for the blue light healing - even extracting a bullet lodged deep inside Henry didn't convince her!).

Anyone got any ideas?

There are 10 kinds of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who don't...

As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

Well for a WAG

It would entail her entire family dead and in the morgue for 3 days before she is permitted to revive them.

Betcha that would get her attention.

Now that's a warning

up in neon 10 meters high!

“You realise that if you don’t take notice, the Shekinah will do something you can’t ignore?”
“I wouldn’t bet on that.”
“Oh, I’d stake every penny I own on it—it’s sure as eggs is eggs.”
“I have to go,” I rose from the table, “have to get this one to see Dr Cauldwell.”
“Heed what I said, if you ignore her, she’ll make you listen and today’s incident will be like a picnic.”

That could also be a big mistake

By the same token, Shekinah needs to be very, very careful when threatening Cathy, as it could very well blow up in more ways than one. Cathy has already shown that if someone that she holds near and dear are threatened or hurt, she will do whatever it takes to protect and or if necessary exact revenge. Rather that becoming an ally, hurt one of her own and Cathy could very easily become a very nasty enemy who won't stop until she has exacted her pound of flesh. Mere mortals have been known to bring down Gods in the past.

Exactly!

If Shekinah really follows through on that threat she's likely to become extinct! Harming Cathy's family has proven to be extremely detrimental to the health of everyone who's tried it so far and she's clearly not afraid to fight back against the so-called 'divine'.

I almost hope she does try it, as any 'god' who acts like this needs to be eliminated in my view.

She'll Make You Listen

and what she does will not be to any member of Cathy's Family, because harming a family member would not accomplish anything at all. Shekinah is not a mortal, and has much more power than Cathy does, and if it becomes necessary for Shekinah to use more of that power, it will be against Cathy, who will not be able to defend against it. Yes, I know the story of Abraham and Isaac, but that was God's way of convincing himself that Abraham really trusted and believed God and his power. Cathy is NOT in that condition, as she is a self professed non-believer that any religion that cannot be proved Scientifically can exist. What Shekinah will do has to be to Cathy. I cannot see Shekinah harming family members to try to get Cathy's attention, as it isn't they who are causing Cathy's problem.

This is my take on the story so far. I am still about 300 episodes from being current on today's date (April 23, 2012), so I guess I will just keep reading to catch up, and see what Bonzi and Izzy has in store for those who have a "BIKE" addiction.

Billie getting girl bits should make Cathy change her mind,

A Very Large Cannon Shell Over The Bow

Sounds like Shekinah is warming up some major OT whup-ass for Cathy if she doesn't show some faith/respect/submissiveness soon.

Now, why exactly does the Almighty get all insecure and defensive if He (or one of his many god-ish appendages) is not getting the love of totally insignificant mortals? It's a part of theology that has no satisfactory answer for me.

Which, of course, is why I signed up for a religion that has a simpler view of things, God's unconditional love, etc.

Yes, God even loves me, believe it or not.

Seems like it's Shekinah's way but

why do we have to have a disaster to convince Cathy. Why not a completely wonderful but still inexplicable occurance. Cathy gets pregnant, Julie has her first period, something similar...

virginal

or is that 'male'*smirk* birth.

That would give her something to think about.

Unfortunately she might rationalize it as some weird biological process.

It has be earth shatteringly spectacular. Betcha Mom coming back from the dead would do it :)

Looks Like Cathy Will Have To Find Out

jengrl's picture

PICT0013_1_0.jpg the hard way. I just hope that when it does happen, someone else will be there to step up if needed. She has tested the patience of Shekinah way too many times and I am very much afraid she is about to get burned in a very personal way that will rock her.

Never really saw the reasoning for the blunt instrument approach toward a lack of deference. Surely a God would be above such things. You'd think all knowing would include a sense of humour. Cathy is showing a rather high degree of stubborn though isn't she. Still a handy energy is a different thing to a snotty powerful being in a dream.

Kristina

If Dawkins is all they have ...

I think that Dawkins issues all come from a bad childhood in Kenya with a Military father who was overbearing. I think it is in the 5th chapter of his "God Delusion" it becomes clear that he has serious unresolved issues. It was so whiny that I gave up on that chapter. For me, most of his points were so vapid that it actually increased my faith.

I really like Cathy. She is in many respects, just like my roomate, Hindi. Religion doesn't make any sense to her either. I don't try to pound it into Hindi either, but I do worry that she may experience some really painful losses in life before she finds faith in the creator. Not that he would punish her but we all have very painful things happen in life and I think that faith can make it more bearable.

Much peace Angharad

I got in late this morning

ALISON

'' so where and when did Billie get her "girl"bits,Stan? Mystifying!

ALISON

Just plain STUBBORN!

Despite all that she has seen and done, despite that she has used the "blue light" so many times, and depends on it (even when she says she can 'tune in' to her children), Cathy refuses to believe. This is more than scientific skepticism-there is active denial of facts that she is in possesion of. Science does not deny facts, and a true scientist does not actively distort the truth, especially to herself. Cathy is now being silly--and it is going to hurt her. I only hope that it will not take a child dying for her to understand. In her own way, she is as bad as Stella.

Wren

Make her a virgin with a leather Hymen.

That's an idea! Shekinah could make her a complete female with ovaries and all the stuff. But as an added bonus, her virginal membrane could be like the door on a bank vault.

Everything that has happened to Cathy ... wow. Is she still holding a grudge because of the way her father and some teachers treated her? She's seen them get their comupance, what else does she want?

Gwendolyn

an answer to Pipa, sorta, maybe ?

gods need someone to worship them, or they are vanquished to lost memories. or, someting like that, i remember reading, or another media telling. like faries, unicorns, other things in mythology. I don't think kathy so much doesnt believe in a deity(s) as much as she doesn't respect the church's version.
.
Well, ANG .. you sure pulled one out to save Kathy in reguards how human authorities (police/child protective services) would absolutely have to get involved. That just plain out shocked me. Gettin Billie some much needed help might just be a ticket, but, I got a figuring that whatever this blue-light/ancient greek gods thing is - is gonna get interesting and perhaps other gods intervening. only way I can see ya clearing up this mess.
.
Me, personally, I wish you hadn't introduced this into the storyline at all, it was interesting initself w/o hokey-pokey added into mix. But, I can see WHY you did it, because all thru-out this saga, has been about real life situations and morality/mortality questions have to figure into the equation, to make people look closer at points being made thru-out storyline. easier to have Greek gods warring, than a Christian deity many of us plain out dont believe in/ or have lost faith wondering why such a deity would allow such to occur.
.
I do believe there has to be some some sort of higher realm one assends to, but, i think it's more a advanced society clearly beyond what a human mind can deal with. It fits more into my believe that homo-sapien didnt origionate here, but was more likely a colony spaceship that crashlanded/stranded here and interacted with the sentient early lifeform that was here already. it ties better into why we can find evidence of certain things being done that we're pretty sure that was beyond say cro-magnum man and others. A colony ship survivors would eventually loose abilities after awhile, #1- replenishing supplies, broken items... Yes, there'd be certain abilities god like early on, and certain construction. and just like history has shown. someone fighting about whom is in charge, or someone challanging the value sets of interference/non-interference.. move a few hundred yrs foward. most of the origionals are now deceased, they've exhausted their resources and fallen back with more primative methods... that colony ship could have been populated with exactly folks that if we in 2011 built it, to escape disaster, would populate it, i'd guess. the Ultra-rich that can buy their way into anything, a bunch of politicians, and croney's, and like techs that made things run ....in 2011 - we could build this spaceship if the dire need existed. and just as mentioned, likely was it would be populated, because of human nature...and results be exactly da same.
.
I mention this on a day that the USA is all but abandoning space for no apparent reason. and yet saying they are going to MAN a trip to mars which BTW is the most habbitable place near us too. not to mention I believe there's more on Mars than us common folk believe, make believe. doubt.
.
then there's the little matter of the 1200s, 1300s and the CHURCH going out of it's way to destroy every book they didnt like or said. What was in those books that so scared those people do wipe out history in such a manner, then, not only that, write their own books in such an obscure language that even very few of their own hiarchy could read ?
.
Makes me wonder? I wont even go into background of the other bible in use (King james) and it's intentions... but will mention, even it's a bit ODD that it was also written in very same language and at time even less folks read or able to translate it. You'd of thought at least that one would have been writen in a language, as to put more emphasis on WHY King James was having it done in 1st place.

jumps off my soap box...maybe tho, someone smarter than me will read my rant, see my point, and actually come up with answers to my questioning I've managed. I've questioned, and made a reasonable theory to fit known facts we seem to know today. Even if many will scoff at it.
.
if there is a heaven another realm past this existance besides being more food for worms. Perhaps i'll least get my answers b4 sentencing in hell. Cause those that are believers seem pretty convinced that's where i'm going.... i just figure I'm gonna have lots of company and if they are wrong, we can argue it in next realm/life

To the point of insanity,

Cathy is being given all the evidence she needs, but she still denies to the point of insanity.
