I walked along a line of weary and wounded men. But they weren't men, at least not normal ones, their eyes were too big, the ears were pointed like an elf, they're skin was flawless except where dirt and wounds marred the almost angelic appearance. I'd have said they were the most beautiful people I'd ever seen except for their eyes, their eyes were hard, I'd seen similar eyes before, but those were pretty few and far between. Every single one of the men who were wearing what looked like fantasy armour, with real weapons that had seen hard use were staring at me as if they were thinking about the easiest and quickest way to kill me if I became a threat.

Students had started to come in, and the room was full of talking, the scraping of chairs, and bags and books being put onto desks. One bag was put right in the middle of the aisle, Caroline never had a chance. Her foot caught it, and she went tumbling forward, her sunglasses flying off. Trying to catch herself just made her elbow hit a desk painfully, throwing her even more off balance. She landed in a heap, just barely avoiding smashing her face into the floor.

The first stop of the tour was the library, which was close to the reception. A number of girls were quietly working at tables set up in the centre of the room. Along one side of the room, and on a mezzanine level above, stood bookshelves filled with books. A number of computer workstations were down another wall. One side of the double height room was glass. The final wall being the one to the corridor and reception area.

Bill Dougherty’s sons and wives, the second Dougherty generation had met with their third generation children and spouses to discuss their future. James and John worked for the same company and knew their employer was preparing to move operations to Mexico which meant they’d be out of work within six months or even sooner. Their sons, daughters, son-in-laws and daughter-in-laws were all worried about their future since each of the five had at least one member unemployed. Arrangements were made for the family to visit over the Fourth of July Weekend.

The clan made plans for an all day picnic celebration on June 14. The day was a seminal date for the clan. What happened on that day culminated with the founding of the Clan Wells Point one hundred seven days later on September 29. Not only was it Flag Day, June 14 was the day a cancer ridden near dead Carol O’Brien commissioned her twelve year old son Kristopher to somehow get his nine year old twin sisters Lyndi and Teri from Cape Cod Massachusetts to their grandmother’s Jane O’Brien, farm near Neavitt, Maryland with only fifty dollars. Along the way Kristopher discovered his true gender.

Arnie had abandoned God, as God had abandoned Arnie. No rightful god would show him an abomination against the Universe (that thing occupying the body of a woman for its own evil purpose) and punish him when he went to set it right. Punish him by placing a godfearing man in prison to spend years ... years ... being brutalized by animals with unthinkable appetites.

I walked through the kitchen door into the living room cautiously. Centered in this massive room, perfectly frozen in its last moment of explosive violence, were the twisted remains of my roadster. Two bodies, un-harnessed at the time of impact, were flung far from the car's demise, speaking to both the speed and severity of the accident. The first body that was thrown into the treetops, was a woman I recognized vaguely, but was unable to call fully to memory. The second body that was twisted in a comically grim contortionist's pose was clearly mine.

Almost every time she went by this particular house, the kitchen windows made it possible to see inside, and she often noticed what seemed to be a young woman going about the daily tasks of keeping a house clean, doing dishes, mopping the floor, etc. The odd thing about it all was that Stasia didn't fancy girls, yet this one drew her attention like a moth is drawn to the flame of a candle.
