A new career beckons for Maria, the hard-working cleaning lady and laundry maid.

As promised, Anna and Phil came round at about eight o’clock to see how Maria had turned out. I answered the door and took some pleasure in seeing their open mouths and gasps of astonishment. I loved performing, and being admired for my acting talents.

“Por favor, pase, Señor y Señora,” I said in character, holding the door wide open.

I have to admit that seeing my picture on the front page of the Sunday paper was a shock. For most people it would be a pleasant one, the fifteen minutes of fame that is often promised but hardly ever given. It was not, for me, very good news at all.

To help Erica get over the trauma of the prosecution hearings, Susan invites her to a 'posh nosh' at a top class restaurant. There the pair unexpectedly encounter the judges and Hans, the boy Erica fancies but thinks she cannot have because of her HIV condition. The stress of the encounter causes Erica to have a near relapse.

I entered the bar with great trepidation. I hadn’t had any problems in several years of being a woman, but I had just had some terrible news. No, I take that back. It wasn’t terrible at all. It was a relief. I had developed lymphatic cancer, and like every other case, it was ravaging my body.

I was reluctantly taking part in a meeting of eleven other ‘Roses’ while we were at the SWEET (South Western Exposition for the Embetterment of Transpeople) convention. I sat down and started taking in the other Roses there.

Most of them seemed to be much more comfortable in their role as women than I was. I had actually been quite comfortable for many years, but I had never been transgendered. I glanced down at my jeans and western shirt. They were women’s – they had to be. Men’s clothing would have been ridiculous on me.

As I heard the sound of an engine grow fainter, I felt more despair at that moment than I have ever felt in my life.

Erica completes her witness for the prosecution but she still faces the ordeal of interrogation by the defence.

Erica's trial resumes after further evidence comes to light as her memory is jogged during the hearings.

Just before the end of the alleyway was an unmarked door; by the litter on the ground around it, it was left unlocked for smokers. I pulled, and went into the stairwell. Up one short flight, the door gave upon a relatively dim carpeted hallway. I slowed, and tried to catch my breath, so as not to seem suspicious. Ahead of me, a side door opened. The person who came out thrust some papers into my hand, and pushed me through the door.

After witnessing a murder. Young Robbie Dunkirk sees his family also murdered. He calls his mothers estranged twin sister. She comes up with a plan to hide Robbie. HE becomes his twin sister Sarah.

Lola, Olivia, Angela and Erica's case finally gets to court in Germany where they learn just how large the case is.

Chapter Two - Penelope

Poppy enters into an uneasy truce with Elliot as they settle into the safe house. Poppy has a secret that Elliot finds quite astonishing and is even more astounded when Poppy tells him her life story and how she ended up on the streets.

Lola and Bab's learn they have more relations while Wendy learns something of her roots.

The first phase of Beverly's endeavours seems to have worked. It now remains to see how Daughter Lola comes through.

Where Lola eventually gets to find some important members of her blood family.

As their lives slowly settle down to normality in incremental stages, Terri and Jessica get to evaluate their relationship with pillow talk.
