July in Austin, Minnesota, brought with it a kind of energy Ellie hadn’t felt in a while. The whole town buzzed about the opening of the new SPAM Museum downtown. For most people, it was just a quirky local event, a fun, family-friendly distraction in the middle of summer. But for Ellie, it meant something bigger: a test. A chance to be out in the world, dressed as herself, in the daylight, with her whole family by her side.

The woman tapped at her terminal, frowning slightly.

“Yes. She booked the ticket, paid for it, checked in online, and that is the last interaction I can find, Mr Rhodes”

“Do you have a number for the office in KL?”

“I can ring them for you, sir”

When they had dropped Jacob off, with the box for Rick, Maisie told Willow that they would be getting the keys to the new home at the end of the next week and thanked her for suggesting it. There would be a housewarming on Easter Saturday afternoon. When they stopped at Willow’s they helped carry the last boxes in.

The other bands were drifting off, and all came to say their thanks. Willow had Sally shadowing her as she was hugged. Sally, being quite a striking looking girl, had her share of hugs as well. When Rick, Racheal, and Jacob were leaving, Willow got a hug and a kiss. She told Rick that she would get in touch as soon as she was given the finished discs.

There was a repeat when Geoff, Zara and her mother left. Sally snorted.

“That girl is going to have a problem with her mother. It looks as if she wants her daughter to be a star.”

After flubbing a powerful incantation, meant to give newly coronated Demon Queens the wisdom of their ancestors, Devilla Satanne awakens to memories of her past life as Jacob Divington, a human from Earth. In victory, the Heroine brings about a glorious age of peace between demons and humans for the first time in millennia. ...Which actually sounds pretty good for her people, come to think of it. Devilla knows her terrible behavior is beyond forgiveness, but maybe she can still make up for her past mistakes? She just needs to make sure the events of the game unfold correctly. Though there is one little detail she'd like to change - the part where Devilla herself is killed or enslaved!

She called me about three hours later, from Kuala Lumpur as Ish and I walked the Jurassic Mile.

“Arrived in one piece, love. Busy as, here. I’m heading for the exit in a few, but didn’t really want to have Mum earwigging this call. I’ll find somewhere quiet and call you tonight. About nine?”

“Ideal love. The lad can stay up that late, say hello. Bit of video so we can see your face?”

Chapter 10 Normal Teenager

Melissa somehow managed to make her connection for the flight home in Rome. The image of Jack meeting her at the airport was there front and center in her mind. Even being chatted up by two Italians on the long flight failed to get her to show some emotion other than contempt for them. She was lost in her own thoughts.

“I kind of wish no-one had to live like that. But there’s that world, and then there’s the world we live in, right?”

David kept a cautious distance as he followed Melissa toward the abandoned hardware store. The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the cracked pavement of the old strip mall parking lot. Johnson's Hardware had been closed for nearly three years, its windows covered with weathered plywood and faded "For Lease" signs.

DeShawn stood at the edge of the track, watching his teammates finish their cool-down laps. Even at rest, everything moved with a slight sluggishness - just enough to be irritating, like watching a video at 90% speed.

"DeShawn, my man!" Coach Martinez approached, tablet in hand. "Another record today. You're making history out here!"

My earliest memory is discovering I was in an egg, and having to fight my way out of it. My giant mother breast-fed me. My father was larger than me, but only by the degree I would expect, or even less than that. He had a normal-sized house inside the huge house where my mother lived.

The next morning, Yuqi awoke enveloped in a renewed sense of purpose that pulsed through her veins like an invigorating tide. The warmth she had felt in her dream lingered within her, a radiant glow flickering like a steadfast flame, eagerly awaiting her nurturing touch. No longer just a figment of her imagination, it had taken root within her, alive and vibrant, ready to be embraced.
