He was also slight of build and not ruggedly handsome, and his hair was prematurely white, but his skin was remarkably unwrinkled, although thin and pale. She had far more wrinkles than him. She loved him now more than ever. There life together had been much more interesting lately.

“Is Polly coming for dinner tonight?” she asked.

BEEP BEEP BEEP. Somebody needed to turn off the damn alarm. I tried to reach for it but all I felt was pain. I decided to go back to sleep.

I opened my eyes again and there she was right above me smiling. Just like in my dream. She kissed me. Then there were more faces. I wanted to tell them to get out of my dream but I couldn't make my mouth work.

My Master had once been an apprentice to the great Aelius Claudius Galenus of Pergamon, known simply as Galen, renowned as the greatest physician and surgeon of all time. Galen had been the court physician to the Emperor Marcus Aurelius and was given time and support to study the human body and all manner of treatments. That was Galen’s gift to history.

Rafael sat in the wooden chair, barely daring to breath. Just past his 12th birthday, Raf was on that precipice between childhood and maturity. With his knees pressed together, his hands clenched tight, an almost imperceptible tremor of his body and the stark contrast of his wide eyes standing out in bas-relief against his pallor, Raf was more terrified than excited to be participating in the prestigious scholarship program.

Each scholarship specified paired the recipient and the prestigious private school that they must attend. Since Rafael was to attend The Princess Academy, he knew that there had been a mistake because he was a boy and his scholarship would now be revoked.

“Welcome to the company Kim,” said Brian as Kim walked into the building the following Friday Morning.

Kim was a little startled to see the Managing Director, Brian West sitting at the reception desk.
