Chapter 15

Conversations. And that hurts.

I had just gone from having an experience that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, to an experience that every girl dreams of. I’d agreed to be a model for a new bridal brochure for the store my mom works. And it was not a good experience.

Then my family and friends had surprised me. I’d had a wedding. A wedding where I was the bride and Amy was the groom. All I can say is, it was a wonderful experience.

The only friend that wasn’t at this faux wedding was my friend Larry, who was my best man at my wedding to Amy. And who Tammy had gone on a date with, and kissed. I hope he never finds out about Tammy.

We all went to the dining room where there were drinks and a small wedding cake. Amy and I had fun cutting the cake and making a mess of each other's faces. After getting cleaned up, we talked with everyone.

As we talked to Maria and Mark, it was interesting to find out that Mark had known about my Tammy side for a little while, and didn’t have a problem with the idea. He’d looked forward to seeing me as a bride and to being Amy’s best man. He said, that when he first saw me in my wedding gown, he was amazed that I could look so good.

I asked him, “How did you find out about Tammy.”

“Actually.”, Mark replied. “I’ve wondered about it for a long time. All the way back to when you were dressed as a girl in that accident. Then recently there was this pretty girl that was supposed to be your cousin, but when she was around you weren’t. One day when Maria and I were talking she let something slip.

“Then I just came out and asked her. And she told me some interesting things. That was only a few weeks ago when she and Amy were coming up with the crazy idea for the fake wedding. So, I've suspected something for a long time, but have only known for sure for a couple of weeks.”

I looked at Maria, and she said, “Sorry.”

“It’s okay.”, I said. “It was fun having Mark be a part of this crazy thing. And you finally were able to be a wedding photographer.”

Maria smiled.

Billy, Amy’s brother, had walked up to us while we were talking to Maria and Mark. So, I looked at him, and asked, “So, do you think I’m weird?”

“Why would I?”, he asked.

“I’m standing here looking like a girl. And I’m a guy.”

In a fake surprised way, he said, “You’re not a girl!?”

“Billy!”

He grinned and said, “No. You're not weird. You are crazier than hell. Not just for wanting to look like a really hot girl, but for marrying my sister, and that was really crazy.

“I have to admit that you do make a very convincing girl. Why you would want to look like a girl, I don't think I'll ever understand. Though it's a lot better than some of the other things that you could do.”

“You’re right, marrying your sister was crazy.” I received a punch in the arm for that. I continued with, “I don’t think that I’ll ever understand why I like doing this. I do know, that I don’t want to stop.”

Amy grabbed my arm, and said, “Billy. It's just part of who Tommy is. He has a strong feminine side and isn't afraid to explore it. And we have fun with it.”

“You’re both crazy.”, Billy said. “But Sis, I’m happy that you married Tommy he’s a great brother-in-law.”

“I have to know.”, I said. “How did you find out about Tammy?”

“I’ve had a number of my friends, who also know you, ask me about your cousin Tammy. Especially after the way we’d heard Larry talk about her. I couldn’t remember meeting a cousin of yours by that name. If she was as hot as Larry said, I would have remembered her. When she wasn’t at your real wedding, I began to wonder. And now I know. Tammy and Tommy are one and the same.

“The similarity in names should have given me a clue, but didn’t. But now it all makes sense. How you can look so good either way is amazing. Seeing Tammy for the first time today, I don’t see anything of Tom.”

Maria and Mark had been standing there listening to this, and Maria said, “I saw the same thing the first time I met Tammy. It continues to amaze me every time I see her. And I’ve seen her a lot.”

I could see that Mark had a question on his mind, but wasn’t sure how to ask it. So, I asked, “Mark. Something bothering you?”

Mark at first said, “Ah. No.” Then he said, “Yeah. I guess I do. But ... But it’s a little personal.”

“Just ask. If it’s too personal, I’ll tell you.”

“Okay. You’re not ... not thinking of doing what that army guy did a few years ago. Are you?”

Now I was puzzled. So, I asked, “What did he do?”

“Became a woman.”

“Oh him. No. No way. I find that it's a lot of fun to be able to change my look from a boys' to a girls'. I really don't want to be a girl.”

“I’d have to divorce him if he did.”, Amy added.

“And I really don’t see that ever happening.”, Maria said.

Amy and I walked over to where our parents were talking with Mr. and Mrs. Taylor. I thanked Mrs. Taylor for all of her help, along with giving her a big hug.

She smiled, and said, “Honey it’s fun to work with such a natural canvas. It makes me happy to see you happy when you see my work.”

“I still don’t understand this whole thing.”, Amy’s dad said. “But today was fun, seeing my daughter trying to look like a guy. And there is no way that she could ever do that. But my favorite son-in-law looking like a girl, and making a beautiful bride was amazing.

“And, like I’ve heard some others say, I’ll never understand why he does it. And why my daughter seems to enjoy him doing it as much as he does. I don’t have a problem with them doing this. You know, it might be fun to have another daughter from time to time.”

“It is.”, my mother said. “I put them both to work doing housework.”

“Mother!”, I said.

“Well, I do. And you two can also cook up a storm.”

“Jean.”, Amy’s mother said. “I just may have to borrow your cleaning crew.”

“You're welcome to them anytime.”

I just shook my head.

Just as Amy and I were going to walk away from this little group, we thanked Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, again, for all their help. Then I heard Mr. Taylor say, “I wish we could all look as good as you do.”

I thanked him but was puzzled by his comment.

Eventually, everyone left, except my Cousin Mary and her husband, Jim. I guess Jim's my cousin too. So, it was them, my parents, Amy, and me.

We were all sitting in the kitchen, and Mary said, “Little sister. You’ve outdone yourself.”

“Huh?”, I said.

“Every time I've seen you before this you were pretty. Now you're gorgeous. In fact, you're beautiful enough to be on a magazine cover.”

“Like this one.”, my mother said as she set the bridal brochure down in front of Mary.

Mary picked up the brochure, looked at it, looked at me, pointed at the picture on the cover, and said, “This is you!?”

“Uh huh.”, I replied with a grin.

“Now, you’re really scaring me.”

“Scaring you?”

“Yes. Going from a twelve-year-old boy that was just curious as to what it was like to dress as a girl, to a teenager that can look better than I do. To being able to wear a wedding gown like this one and just making it really pop. And now being a cover girl.”

“Sis. Remember you helped me get this way. I love you for it. And it’s not going any further.”

“I know it’s not going to go away. It’s that you just have too much fun doing it. It was enjoyable helping you find your feminine side. Seeing you as you discovered new things. But I didn’t expect it to go this far. A cover girl.

“You really amazed me today. I couldn't believe what I saw when you walked into that room, and you were so confident, so feminine. There was no doubt that you were a girl, even though I know you're not a girl. But, then maybe you are?”

“Sis, you know it’s all smoke and mirrors. It takes a lot of padding and a ton of makeup to put this girl together, but there’s still a boy under all of it.”

“Is there really a boy under there? Or, is it a boy with a girl’s heart.”

“Maybe I do have the heart of a girl. But I'm still only a boy. And nothing is going to change that.”

Mary sat back, smiled, and said, “Thank you.”

“For what?”

“For being you. I just had to be sure that something hadn't happened to that twelve-year-old boy. That he hadn't changed and become the girl that's inside him.”

“I do become that girl, but only when I want to. Sometimes it’s weeks between times that she’s here. Sometimes I spend days as her. But I change her back into Tommy when I want to.

“Do you remember that you once told me, ‘Be a girl with a mind, a bitch with an attitude, and a lady with class. And most important, be confident. ‘”

“I told you that?”

“Yes you did, one time when we were out when Amy was gone for those four years. I’ve remembered it all this time. When Tammy’s here, that’s what she lives by.”

I finally realized that everyone was staring at me. I looked around, and asked, “Is ... Is something wrong?”

“Honey.”, my mother finally said. “I think that you just enlightened all of us as to who you really are. I’ve never heard you be so confident. You really do know who you are.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”, my dad said. “There were times that I was worried about all this dressing as a girl you were doing. But no more. You really do know who you are, who you need to be.”

It became quiet again. I looked at Jim, and said, “Well Jim. Are you ready to escape this crazy family?”

He smiled. A good sign. Then he said, “Tammy. When Mary told me about you, I was confused. The times I’ve been around Tom, he was all boy. He even married a beautiful girl. I wasn’t sure what I was going to see today.

“Then when you walked into the den, I was seeing a gorgeous bride. I thought that couldn't be Tom. You floated down that aisle, just like a bride would. I saw a beautiful girl. All of your actions were just ... just so feminine.

“Even when you were talking with people afterward you were a girl. Even sitting here you’re a girl. I had to ask my mother-in-law if you were really Tom. She assured me that you were. She told me that she had witnessed your transformation a number of times, and was still amazed by it.

“There may be a boy in there someplace, but right now I'm seeing a girl. There have been times that I wish I didn't have to be the macho guy. No, I don't want to be a girl like you. There are just times that I'd love to go back to being a little kid, and go camping, fishing, and swim naked in the lake.”

“So, do it. I’ll even bet that I could talk Tom into going with you.”

“Only if you promise it will be Tom and not Tammy.”

I grinned, and said, “No promises.”

My dad looked at his watch, and said, “It’s late. Anyone want to go out for dinner. My treat.”

“Sure daddy. It’s going to take Amy and me a little while to get changed.”.

“I have to get out of the tux. So, you have time. Just don’t take forever.”

“But daddy. It takes girls forever to get ready.”

“Just don’t be too long you two.”

“Yes, daddy.”, Amy and I said together.

Amy and I headed back to our room, and as we closed the door, she grabbed me and gave me a long, deep, kiss. When we broke the kiss, I asked, “What was that for?”

“That was because you are you. And I love you.”, Amy replied.

“You know. I feel so fantastic in this gown. It’s like I’m a princess.”

She smiled, then said, “I knew you would. It makes me so happy to see you happy like this.”

We worked quickly getting me out of the gown, and her out of the tuxedo. I thought about going back to being Tom. But Amy wouldn't let me. She went into the closet and came back with the little black dress that she had worn when we were at the hotel after our wedding. Amy had me put on a black slip to cover the white underwear that I still had on. Then she helped me put on the little black dress, and it fit. She told me not to change my makeup but just freshen it. And to pick out a pair of shoes.

Then she did something that I didn’t think was possible. She quickly washed the heavy mousse out of her hair, dried it, brushed it into a cute style, fixed her makeup, and had gotten dressed. And she did this all in record time.

I’d fixed my makeup, and picked out a cute pair of black shoes with a two-inch heel.

We gave each other the once-over, and approval, then we both grabbed purses and headed to find everyone else.

When we walked into the den, we received an, “It’s about time girls.”, from my dad.

I hit him with, “Daddy. We told you that it takes girls time to look pretty. And we only took half of forever.”

Mary looked at me and just shook her head.

“What?”, I asked.

“Little sister.”, Mary said. “And, you are my little sister, as my boy cousin is nowhere to be found. You even look like a bride in that little black dress.”

I grinned. Then, looked at my left hand, and said, “Oh. I’ll be right back.”

As I turned and ran out of the den, I heard Mary say, “She even runs like a girl and that wiggle. Wow.”

I stopped, turned, looked at Mary, pointed at her, and said, “It’s all your fault. And I love you for it.”

My father said, “Will you please hurry up. I’m starved.”

“Sorry, daddy. I'll be right back.”

I ran out of the den and was back quickly. Mary asked, “So, what did the blond forget?”

As I held up my left hand, I said, “Just this.”

“My God. She even has an engagement ring.”

“We had to get her that to keep her from being hit on so much.”, Amy replied.

“Can we go now?”, my father said.

“Sure daddy.”, I said with a smile. “We’re just waiting on you.”

He just glared at me. I can be such a girl.

We drove over to a nice restaurant with my parents. And, surprise, surprise, we were met there by Amy’s parents and my aunt and uncle. We had a really great meal.

When we arrived back home, and my parents, Amy, and I were sitting in the den talking. I said, “This was such a fun day. I want to thank you guys for putting it together.”

“Honey.”, my mother said. “It was fun for all of us.”

“I’m just so worried that too many people are finding out about me.”

“I know. All of these people see what it means to you. That it isn’t hurting anyone, and that it’s just a fun thing.”

“Yeah. But what if the wrong person finds out? Someone that thinks I’m ... I’m a pervert or something.”

“Honey. You know that there will be people like that. The best thing that you could do is just to walk away from them.”

“But what if they won’t leave me alone.”

“Maybe talk with your Uncle Richard. I know he’d know how to handle it.”

“What if it really gets out? Like at school.”

“Honey I don’t know. Please stop worrying about it. You did have fun today. Didn’t you?”

“Of course I did. It was fantastic. The dress and everything. I just felt like a princess.”

“I know you acted like you were a princess. It was fun watching you flit around talking to everyone.”

“Really?”

“Yes. You were on a cloud. You were doing something every girl wants to do. Be a bride.”

“Yeah. I’m still on a high.”

“I can tell.”

“So, Mr. Taylor is a minister?”

“Yes. He's an associate minister of a church that is very liberal. He does have a full-time job.”

“A church that is liberal?”

“Yes. That church welcomes everyone.”

“I thought all churches did that?”

“Well, they do. Some people don't dare be themselves at some.”

“Like who?”

“People like you. Or, someone that is gay or lesbian.”

“Oh. So, this church welcomes people for who they are? I could go as Tammy if I wanted?”

“Yes. They’d welcome you with open arms.”

“That’s what you were going to tell me about Mr. Taylor. Wasn’t it?”

“Partially. He’s like you. He enjoys dressing as a woman. But Mrs. Taylor told me that he doesn’t look much like one. And would never go out like you do.”

“So, that’s what he meant.”

“What did he say?”

“He said, ‘I wish we could all look as good as you do.’”

“I think so.”

“So, there are more out there like me?”

“Yes, honey. There are. You remember me telling you about the books that I found in the college library.”

“Sure.”

“You might want to go read them for yourself. Check the card catalog for cross-dressing, and it will lead you to other things. Some, are in the medical library.

“And the next time that you see your Grandmother Devereux, you may want to ask her about what the Navajo believe.”

“Believe about what?”

“They believe that there are people with two spirits or a half-woman half-man person. They accept that there are three sexes, male, female, and people with two spirits.”

“Are these two spirit people gay?”

“No honey. Some of the writings of the early white men depicted them as being gay. But in the Navajo culture, there are gay people, but there are also half-woman half-man people. And it's possible that some of the half-woman half-man people are.”

“Does grandma know about me?”

“Yes. When she was here, we talked about you, and she told me about the people with two spirits. Then, after she went home, she sent me some information that she found. I’ll give it to you to read. Amy should read it too.”

“I need to talk to grandma.”

“She would like that.”

My dad had been listening to this, and being a researcher, I think the conversation peaked his interest, because he asked, “Tammy. Would you mind if I read that information when you're finished?”

“Of course not daddy.”, I replied.

“And honey.”, my mother said. “That wedding dress.”

“What about it?”, I asked.

“It’s yours.”

“Mine!?”

“Yes. We thought that you’d like to have it.”

After we were back home, Amy helped me out of the bustier. And as she did, I said, “I really liked the feeling of the bustier.”

“You said you did.”, Amy replied.

“I know. It holds you in such a sensual way.”

“It is nice, isn't it. We really have to get you into a girdle.”

Mom did give me the information that Grandmother Devereux had sent her, and Amy, dad, and I read it. It appears that a half-woman half-man person, wasn’t necessarily gay, and vice versa. That some tribes consider that there are four genders, men that are masculine, women that are feminine, men that are both masculine and feminine, and women that are both masculine and feminine.

Also, that a male with both spirits, no matter if they present as a man or woman, could participate in male activities and even go to war. They could also take part in woman’s activities like cooking, planting, and taking care of children. Just because a man wore woman’s clothing didn’t mean that his role was that of a woman, or who he chose as a life partner.

After Amy had read it, all she said was, “Very interesting. And it explains a number of things.”

The rest of the break between fall and winter was great. Christmas came and went. We split Christmas day between my family and Amy’s family. Everyone received some great presents.

New Year's Eve, was upon us, both sets of our parents were going to a party, but Amy and I elected to stay home and celebrate it here.

Amy had found Tammy a cute pajama set, so I changed into that. When I came back into the den, Amy smiled, and said, “That’s very cute.”

“I know. But it’s not very warm. I’m going to start a fire.”

“Good. I’ll be right back” and, Amy headed to our room.

By the time she was back, I had a nice roaring fire going in the fireplace and was sitting on the couch. She walked in front of me, and she was wearing a very filmy pink baby doll pajama set and a pair of white heels. I looked at her, smiled, and said, “Hi sexy.”

“Hi yourself.”, she said.

“Why don’t you come and cuddle up with me and get warm.”

She walked over in a very sexy way and snuggled close to me. We sat there and watched some television. At midnight, we shared a nice long deep kiss. That led to more. Much more.

Winter quarter started right after the new year, and it was off to a good start. Things were going great. That was until we met up with some friends on a Friday night for dinner and a movie. As we walked in, we saw our friends, and my best friend, and best man at my wedding, Larry Thomas. He was standing there talking with our friends. We hadn’t seen Larry since just before Christmas.

As we walked towards them, Larry saw me, I waved at him, and he started walking towards me. He didn’t look happy. As he walked up, I asked, “Larry. What’s wr ... “ And he cold-cocked me with a punch I never saw coming.

When the fog cleared from my mind, I was laying on the floor, Amy was holding me and crying. I looked up, and Mark and another one of my friends were holding onto Larry. Larry's fists were clenched, and he still looked mad. I asked, “Why the hell did you hit me?”

“You fag. You know what you did. You made a fool out of me.”, Larry fired back.

“What the hell are you talking about.”

“That date. The movie. The dinner. I found out about you. You faggot.”

‘Oh shit.’, I thought. ‘How the hell do I get out of this.’

Just then the manager ran over and demanded to know what was going on. I looked up and told him that it was just a little misunderstanding. And everything was fine. He told us if there were any more little misunderstandings like this, that we'd be banned from the restaurant. Both Larry and I told him that we understood.

As he walked away, the manager said, “You two had better behave.”

Amy stood up, and then she helped me up off the floor. I was still rubbing my jaw. Then I said, “Larry. I know you're mad. Please sit down with us and hear me out.”

“Why the hell should I! You made a fool out of me!”, Larry said with anger in his voice.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it to, please, let's sit and talk.”

Amy said, “Please Larry. You two have been friends forever. Don’t let it end now.”

“Oh all right.”, Larry replied. “I guess. Amy, for you I’ll listen to what he has to say.”

As we started walking towards a secluded booth, Mark asked, “Tom. Do you want me to come with you?

“It’s alright Mark.”, I said. “I think everything will be okay.”

The three of us sat in the booth. Larry sat across from Amy and me. We sat there in silence, until I said, “Larry. You’ve got one hell of a right cross.”

“Tom.”, Larry said. “I’m sorry, but I was just so damn mad.”

“Larry. I understand. You were lied to.”

“Yeah. By my best friend.”

“I know. But you just kept after Tammy. Even after you knew she had a boyfriend, and you were dating Kelly.”

“Kelly and I weren’t exclusive then. You had a boyfriend. So, you are a fag.”

“Larry. I am not gay. And I don’t have a boyfriend.”

“He’s not gay.”, Amy said. “And fag isn’t a nice word.”

“Sorry, Amy.”, Larry said. “When I figured out that he was this Tammy, and that we had kissed. I just went crazy. I don’t like guys.”

“I don’t like guys either.”, I replied.

“So, why do you dress like a girl. And come on to guys?”

“Larry. I don’t come on to guys. I try to avoid them. I wish I knew why I liked to dress and look like a girl. It’s something I don’t understand. It all started just before I was in that car wreck. When I had that poodle skirt outfit on, I just liked what I saw, and how the clothes felt.”

“When we went out you looked so damn good. Too damn good. I felt like ... like the big man on campus being seen with you. Everyone thought I was special just because you went out with me. Now, I feel like shit.”

“You shouldn’t. I liked going out with you. It was fun. I know. I know. I shouldn’t. But you showed me how you’d treat a girl, and it was great. Any girl would love to go out with you.”

“But you’re a guy.”

“Yeah. So are you. You are a one hundred percent guy.”

“You’re not?”

“Yeah. I am. I just happen to have this little quirk. I enjoy dressing like a girl.”

“Yeah. And you make one hot looking girl. How the hell do you do it.”

“Like I’ve told some other people, it’s all smoke and mirrors. It takes a lot of padding and makeup.”

“You even sounded and acted like a girl.”

“You can blame my cousin for that. She had fun turning her young boy cousin into her little sister. When we were together, and I was dressed as a girl, she would correct anything I did that wasn’t feminine.”

“You let her do that to you?”

“I didn’t let her. I loved doing it with her. Now when I’m Tammy, I just fall into the role.”

Larry looked at Amy, and asked, “And you go along with this?”

“Yes.”, Amy said. “I’ve known about it for a long time.

“Do you remember when Tommy and I had our problem during our last year in junior high school, and you guys helped us get back together?”

“Sure. You two being mad at each other wasn’t good for anyone.”

“Well what happened between us back then, had to do with him dressing as a girl. It was after the accident that he was in, and I’d asked him if he was still dressing as a girl. He told me no. Then I caught him dressed. I was mad because he’d lied to me.”

“That almost caused you two to break up?”

“Yeah. But after we made up, on rainy days we’d get together at one of our houses and play at dress-up.”

“So, both of your parents knew that Tom was dressing like a girl?”

“Yes. Our mothers even took us shopping.”

“You two are strange. How many people know that he dresses?”

“Too many.”, I said. “I tried to keep it in the family, but it’s exploded.”

He sat back and looked at us for a minute. Then, Larry said, “This is unbelievable and funny. I have a friend that’s a guy, and that guy can make himself look like one of the sexiest girls in town. And I took him out on a date and kissed him.

“You know. Now, that I think about it, it was just Tommy being Tommy. He’s always been a curious guy. A guy that has to know about everything, but wasn’t one time as a girl enough?”

“At first I thought it was. Over time I wanted to do it more. I enjoyed looking like a girl. It was fun. Once Amy was involved, it became a lot of fun. I don't know why I do it, and actually, I don't care.”

“But ... But why the kiss? You were kissing another guy.”

“Was I a guy then?”

“I don’t know. Were you?”

“When I’m Tammy. I’m Tammy. I slip into the persona of a girl. The kiss was Tammy’s way of thanking you for a nice time.”

Looking at Amy, Larry asked, “Didn’t you have a problem with the kiss?”

“Not really.”, Amy replied. “I understand Tammy. She's a very loving person and shows affection when she's happy with something. Though I was a little jealous.”

I asked Larry, “How did you find out that I was Tammy?”

“You know I work part time at that print shop?”

“Yeah.”

“We did a job for one of the big stores in town. We printed up a new brochure for them, and it was bridal stuff. I was doing the quality check on them. And I kept looking at the girl on the cover trying to figure out where I knew her from. It took a while, but I finally figured out that it was Tammy.

“I mentioned to my boss, that I knew the girl on the cover. He thought that it was cool. And he told me that I could have one of the brochures.

“Now, don’t get mad at Maria and Mark. They didn’t know that I could hear what they were saying. But I overheard them talking about a fake wedding between you two.

“Then they mentioned how good Tammy looked in the wedding gown. They had said the fake wedding was between Tom and Amy. Now they’ve said, how good Tammy looked in the wedding dress. And how funny it was to see Amy trying to look like a guy.

“I thought if this fake wedding was between Tom and Amy. Why was Tammy in the wedding gown? And why was Amy trying to look like a guy?

“Then I heard Mark say that he couldn’t get over how good Tom could look as a girl.

“I sat there and thought about it for a while. Why would Tom look like a girl? Was Tammy really Tom? No, couldn't be. We'd shared a kiss. And Tammy kisses like a girl kisses. Tammy was a sophisticated girl. Tom is just an ordinary guy.

“Then I remembered something. I'd mentioned something to Tammy that Tom and I had done. She had started to say that she remembered doing that. She caught herself and said that Tom had told her about it.

“Then the light lit, there were just too many things. I won't tell you what I was thinking after that because we're in mixed company. I was going to confront you then, but other things got in the way until tonight.”

Amy and I sat there and looked at Larry. Then, I said, “Larry. I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to make you look bad. I should never have done it. I just should have said no to you.”

Then Amy said, “Larry. Don’t blame Tommy. He tried hard to figure out how to let you down without hurting you. I pushed him a little to do it, by telling him that it might be fun to find out about dating from the girl’s side.”

“To be honest with you two.”, Larry said. “That date with Tammy was fun. I wish I'd never found out that it was really with Tom. But in a way, this makes it interesting.”

“Interesting?”, I asked.

“You know I’m a psychology major. Right?”

“Sure.” Just where is this going?

“I have this prof who’s a real trip. She has her second-year psych students do a research project and write a paper that’s due before the end of spring quarter. And until now I hadn’t figured out what to do.”

“Larry, I don’t know if I like where this is going.”

“Why?”

“I don’t want anyone else knowing about me.”

“It would be completely anonymous. No one will know who my subject is.”

I looked at Amy, and she said, “Honey. It’s your call.”

“Actually.”, Larry said. “I’d like to use both of you. You are both deeply involved in this.”

Amy thought for a minute, then said, “Honey. I'll go along with whatever you decide.”

“Thanks.”, I said in a sarcastic way to Amy.

Then I said, “Larry. Maybe it's the least I can do to make it up to you for all of this. So, yes. As long as we can't be identified in any way.”

“I promise you that I won’t identify you in any way.”, Larry replied. “It’ll just be the three of us, and we can do this anywhere you feel comfortable. First, I have to write a proposal to do this, and hope my professor approves it.”

“When would you know?”

“Hopefully later this coming week. I'll have my proposal to my prof on Monday. And hopefully, she won't take too long to let me know.”

“So, are we still friends?”

“Of course. It just shocked me that you could look that good, and even kissed me. It was strange, but I’ll get over it.” With a big smile, Larry added, “Besides where else can I find such a willing subject for a research project.”

“Now.”, Amy said to Larry. “Tell us about you and Kelly.”

They should also put in the

They should also put in the information regarding Two-Spirit people that all Native American peoples know about. Have Tammy show up with Amy and let the class try and figure out who is the girl and who is the boy. That should be an interesting class. Then submit your paper for an A+.

That's an interesting idea,

That's an interesting idea, Janice Lynn. But remember that Tommy is trying to keep his Tammy side as hidden as he can.

One bunch is much better than what Larry could have done to Tom; he could have put Tom in the hospital.

But his reaction was correct given the time setting of the story. What made it different was that Larry still wanted to be friends with Tom, or he wouldn't have sat down with them and talked about Tammy. Nor would he have wanted to do his paper on them. He would have walked away and told everyone about Tammy. And he would have done so with glee, wanting to get back at Tom.

This whole experience was good for Larry in that it challenged things he'd been led to believe as he grew up. It will help him not only in the profession he's chosen but his personal life as well. Working with Amy and Tom on his paper will help he see that there is more to anyone than what's seen on the surface. And making snap judgments about someone can lead to big problems.

Others have feelings too.
