Still dazed by the speed of events, I waved my mom goodbye somewhat anxiously and followed Maria into the house. Madeleine told the maid to take my things up. “You know which room is Miss Jennifer’s. Now, dear, some refreshments before bed?”
It was already late so I was about to decline but my hostess was insistent. “Just have a milky drink before you sleep. I’ll send it up with Maria when she comes to help you get ready for bed.”

It was around noon the following day when Mrs Bell drove me back home. The events of the previous evening were already hazy in my recollection.
“See you again, honey!” My hostess smiled, as I made to open the car door. “And soon, I hope!” she whispered conspiratorially, winking and placing her hand on my thigh. Her action triggered thoughts of the previous evening, giving rise to deep blushes and an immediate tingle down there.

It seemed I was fated to follow the same path, though I beg to point out that the stuff I might have done and was certainly paying for was no way in the same league as his.

The day before Thanksgiving I was surprised to see my mother’s station wagon at the school gates at the end of the day. When she saw me she motioned me to get in the back of the car.
“Hurry Jennifer! We’ve a lot to do and not much time to do it in,” she greeted me as I pulled the door shut behind me. I was desperately hoping that no-one within earshot had heard her make use of my femme name!

“Mommy, every year we go to the beach, and every year I have the best time. It’s like the only time I get to really play with Amy. This year was the best ever. Thanks.”

Sammy’s mom heard her darling child, now nine years old, and spread her arms, and Sammy came rushing to her. The hug was massive and tight, and the love tingled through Sara’s body. She thought how when Sammy was in his boy mode, which was most of the time, he was rough and sullen and nasty to his sister.

“My my my,” said Paula, “do you ever stop looking?”

“What do you mean? Looking at what?” replied Dave.

“Oh come on now, you have been staring at that woman across the room all night, it’s really embarrassing. I have to watch you, she has clearly noticed, and it’s really so sexist. What’s your excuse this time?

“I haven’t been doing that, I swear,” he said, his voice lowering to almost silence. “Really, I’m telling the truth.”

Danny always remembered when his sisters went to ballet class. They were so excited, they said, getting to dance all the steps and being able to wear such pretty costumes. But it was also hard work, and they practiced every day, hoping to star in the recitals. And Danny loved to watch them, fascinated by the moves and also loving the ballet costumes, which were so pretty. Plus, the tights were gorgeous.
