As we walked along the line shaking hands she was the last one and so was I apart from Kaz who was talking to their coach a few yards behind. I wasn’t too happy about shaking hands since she’d clattered me several times but at least I had the satisfaction that it cost them the game.

We chatted for half an hour or so and she asked what I was writing and where she might buy one of my books. I was quite flattered so I gave her a signed copy of my first book ‘ All about women’ that received some publicity and some tributes but didn’t really take off. She promised to read it and give me her opinions. I’d really written it from a male perspective so I wondered what she might think.

My hair is limp my face is drawn and as I took a look down there,
Where’s it gone, it’s hard to say, with all this body hair.

I must have fallen into a deep sleep after that because I never stirred until the sun was shining through the window. I’d no idea of the time and I reached for Helen but she had already got up.

I looked at myself in the full length mirror standing with tear filled eyes. Mascara runs on my face and hair still styled in a pony tail and so I took out the hair band to let my hair fall. I brushed it out again with a centre parting and looking at it I decided that I would let Fran shape and style it. I wanted to see if the girl that i could now see in the mirror could go one step further to look even more convincing.

I thought about it for a few seconds and I wondered what Helen might say. But she’d annoyed me so much that I didn’t really care.

‘OK if you need my help then I’m happy to come around but no word to Helen about this please. I’ll have to fit it into my part time job though.’

Fran said she’d match the hourly rate if I’d help her for at least 2 or 3 hours a day and maybe I could give up the job. That made me think a bit but I still wasn’t sure.

I suddenly realized I was helpless. I couldn’t run after him even if I wanted to in heels since I was only new to walking in them. In any case he’d probably be dangerous and I am no fighter.

I managed to stay awake for a while and it was nice to know Chrissy was close by and several times that night I felt her lightly squeezing my hand.

I don’t know how long Chrissy stayed that night but when I woke up I was in a private room that had windows and blinds. The nurse told me that Chrissy had gone and would come back later because my mother and her partner had arrived and since I was asleep they’d gone to have some breakfast.

I was sad because my feeling was that Chrissy had gone out of the way.
