The truth was I was high on medication still when she first came in. So when the boss, Ms Casandra Belmont appeared. I was a bit happy with the world.
“I got boobies!” I told her with a silly grin on my face.

I came around after the operation but didn’t open my eyes for a while. I listened for the sounds of anyone in the room with me.

To my untrained ears, the room was empty. I knew I must look a right state so I’d hoped for a few minutes to myself to at least run a brush through my hair.

There was nothing else for it but to open my eyes. I could tell that it was early evening as the setting sun was giving the room a soft, warm glow.

I lay looking at the ceiling for a few moments.

Charles was at his girlfriend’s house feeling smug about himself and finding that micro-SD card his ex-wife had made. He wasn’t a computer genius like she was, but he knew someone who was, the son of the vice-president of the motorcycle gang. If anyone could crack the password protecting the card he could, he had dropped off the card with him and was just waiting for him to call back.

Charles cellphone rings, “Hello?”

“You need to get out of there now Charles, the police are on their way to you. They have footage of you breaking into that hotel room and searching it.”

“I'll have a glass of your house chardonnay” Becca said and the bartender turned to me. “Club soda with a twist.” I smiled to disapproving looks from the others.

Lauren was looking the most annoyed, so I addressed her.

“I'm feeling dangerous enough in this dress. I'm not adding alcohol.” I tried a reassuring smile.

“God, Chrissie said you never have any fun. Now I know why.” she said dismissively. “But if you think you're designated driver forget it. No one drives my Lexus but me.”

“I can cab home.” I smiled.

“If you cab home after all we did getting you looking this hot, there is no God!” Becca laughed.

I think only Tina caught my panic response before I tamped it down, quickly replaced by a polite smile.

“I get a little stir-crazy sometimes, being cooped up in the apartment all night. But Mom says our neighborhood’s too dangerous for a girl at night, and I know she’s right.”

Sophia soon put the episode at her now old school behind her as she began a slightly extended summer holiday. It didn’t take us long to find her another school for September and when Benito came home from school we planned all sorts of things to do for the holidays only to have them thrown into total confusion by the arrival at Hartley House of Gina.

She breezed in, as if she owned the place. It seemed that it was something Italian Women just did. She pronounced the place ugly and vulgar and not the sort of place for children.

He has done it again. This three brain cell moronic moron of a premier league footballer sitting next to me who earns more in a week than I do in three years of hard work. HAS DONE IT AGAIN!

I got to know Doug so quickly in fact that it felt like I knew him my whole life. Nothing seemed out of bounds, except my dark secret. And even there Doug got to know me better than I know myself. The real me.
