I have noticed that there appears to be a bit of a drop off re reader hits for my stories.
I was wondering if it's because they are bad stories (sob; hits head against convenient brick wall) or if it's just a general trend as there is so much good stuff to read and people have not got the time to read everything.
Could any of you wonderful writers out there give some feedback to say if it's the same with you.
Also,do we know if reader numbers generally are going up?

I love Home Alone because that Katie is so sweet and adorable and I wonder what else will happen to her.
I love Working Girl because of the way that Toni went from a mouse to a lioness. As for a new title for Working Girl, try Working Woman.
I love Olivia Twist because it reminds me of Katie in so many ways as well as shadowing Oliver Twist.
I love Orphan because that poor boy Stephanie is getting into as much trouble as Katie did.

Angharad, you are a good writer, but your daily-dribble of 'bike' installments is pure torture. What I want to see is SNAFU. I don't know the reason for the delay, but it took six months for Sapphire to update her site. Maybe you can think about bringing it over to TopShelf and finishing it here. Until then, I'll keep archiving 'bike' and read the completed product. :-(

For some reason, February always has a slight drop off while January and March are generally hot times here. That's adjusting for February's short calendar. I have no explanation, just the observation. August and September are also slow while July and October are fast-moving. I can almost see a why for August and September but not really February. June is a half-slow month, again, you can sort of see an explanation.
Whatever it is, it's a multi-year pattern.

It's a long shot, but...
I suppose people might be reading offline, books they were bought for Christmas perhaps, or even those they resolved to read this year :)
If it's any consolation I work for a publisher, and we stocktake at this time of year purely because it's our slowest time of year... things don't pick up until April when we begin seafreighting orders to the Caribbean.

As a writer, yes, my hit counts have dropped as well.
As a reader, I have to say it's been harder for me to read stories here.
NOT because the stories are bad! It's just that I don't have the time. I changed jobs a few weeks ago, and finishing the old one was stressful. My spouse and daughter were ill, and so I didn't have any private computer time or desire...
Anyway, everything is fine, it's just all working its way out, no need to worry.
So I've been bookmarking stories as they appear so I can go back and read them later.
Rest assured, Sue, you're one of the bookmarked ones.
February blues?
This time of the year, at least in the northern hemisphere, tends to get people down - cabin fever from the cold months, etc. seems to have a lot of people heading outside; it's much more difficult to find a parking space these last two weeks, for instance....

Well Susan, I've read most (you hadn't finished it at the time) of 'Working Girl' and I have enjoyed it thus far. I haven't gotten back to it simply because, as you said, there are so many great writers posting stories that I can't keep up with them all -- checking the archives, it appears I'm following almost four hundred authors. I expect that may be a common occurance for readers as it is for writers, not enough time. Then there was the time I was dumb enough to post a story written during a manic episode and it got trashed -- hard to read through tears. After that, I didn't read anything for at least a couple of days. So, don't worry about it, just write for yourself and if someone says thanks, it's a bonus.

I don't know about everyone else, but I've just been reading less. Real life intervenes, and when I have a break from that, I'm now writing like a maniac. Bek D. Corvin is tough to say no to, and her muse Enid is RELENTLESS. :-)
