Serious Trouble

Printer-friendly version

Headmaster: You are in serious trouble John, wearing that skirt. I can't allow it and you will have to be punished.

John: Yes Sir, I know. It’s all my sister’s fault. I know I shouldn’t have read her diary but I still think her revenge is both excessive and underhand. She’s in charge of laundry at home and made sure all my stuff was in laundry at the same time. This skirt was the only thing I could find to wear. Please Sir, is it really that bad it’s navy instead of black?

Arson, Murder and Jaywalking.

What a horrible, despicable offence! Wearing a skirt of a wrong color! ^_^

Foolishness and irresponsibility.

Wishing to "punish" the brother and to humiliate him, sister has given a display of stupidity. She has acted as the silly and spoilt child.

It is interesting to know reaction of their parents to this small "incident". Hardly they will be enthused with it.

Yours faithfully.

The sister wasn't being horrible or sadistic.

And in my opinion the punishment fits the crime. If I were the sister, my brother, if I had one, would have been lucky to get by with just wearing a skirt. Reading his sister's diary? That isn't a prank, that is a very serious crime. No he got what he deserved, but he got off lucky.

I'm just saying is all

But what is with the girls and the diaries? It seems too much like a readily available source of blackmail material. :)

Concise but clever

Not bad going, to fit both a story AND an ingenious twist into under 100 words (just - it's 99!)

Note that John isn't being punished for wearing a skirt. He's being punished for wearing a navy skirt.
The implication is that if he was wearing a black skirt...

Wrong battle

Jamie Lee's picture

Brother now knows sisters' diary is off limits. Or else. However, he isn't willing to admit it was all his fault how his sister reacted.

Had to read it again to see that John was in trouble at school because of the skirt color.

Others have feelings too.

Revenge

is a dish best take cold, as Mr. Principal or Sis (or both) will hopefully learn.

Mutually Assured Destruction?

My impression of John is that HE is not vindictive, only thoughtless and lacking in understanding of his sister's feelings.

Also, also note that John does not say who's skirt he is wearing.

Subtle Shades

Daphne Xu's picture

In a crowd all of a single color, a subtle shading will stand out like a sore thumb as much as a red graduation gown or a white military uniform in a sea of black ones.

This occurred to me as I read this story once again.
