Unreachable - THE MOVIE

I was on Amazon and saw the Unreachable has received its 60th review. That is quite amazing considering how many fans won't leave a review in fear of being outed. I would like to get to a hundred one day. The reviews are quite interesting to read, a lot are positive, one or two are downright mean or off their rocker. But people from all walks of life are saying something and a lot of the reviews are not from the trans community (why you shouldn't fear leaving a review because you might be outed, you would just seem enlightened).

Living the dream - almost

As long as I could remember I have wanted to be an author. This was before wanting to be a teacher or wanting to be an Olympic wrestler. Ever since the third grade I knew I wanted to see my name in print, I wanted to tell stories and I wanted to write books. Are there any out there that had his desire for so long?

A change in venue - no longer writing transgender fiction

The few people who follow me and care no that for the longest time I have struggled with where my body of work falls in the large scope of things. I have often felt on an island, alone (or with few others around doing the same thing). For some reason, I thrive on being defined in a group because I think that gives me direction and parameters to work under. It could also give me sources where I could see what worked for others and what hasn't.

What should I do?

I am sitting on something very hot right now. I am half way through writing a biography about an undercover narcotics officer for a major metro police force who happens to be transgender and just went through SRS.

I know I have had some success self publishing, but this is well beyond the scale of God Bless the Child and Unreachable when it comes to importance and marketability. I admit, I might not have what it takes to make this book the success that it should be on its own. I need an agent, but I have no clue how to find one or where to really look.

Termites and Gun Shots

It's termite swarm season here in Florida and guess whose house has got them. MINE. For some reason there was a roll of Toilet paper on the entertainment center and when I went to move it I noticed all these wings just laying around. Weird, I thought, the pixie's decided to hoof it. I went to move the toilet paper back to the toilet paper room (a.k.a. bathroom, a.k.a. danger zone). To my surprise, thousands (maybe less) of termites were crawling in and around the TP roll. So I threw the roll out and hopefully all the termites.

Milestones and near milestones

As I general rule, I always picture myself as a bottom rung kind of person who is trying to get to the next level but always seem to have some difficulty. I hardly ever see myself as popular or good at something and that mindset helps me continue working and improving. I oft times have this theory that something bad is going to happen and that people general dislike me for various reasons. I know my writing doesn't appeal to everyone, but whose does?

Congratulations Tanya Allan

I think it's important to celebrate when one of us does well in the commercial markets. I don't think people quite understand how difficult it is to get ranked on Amazon within any Genre, especially bigger ones. Tanya has always enjoyed great success right out of the gate with anything she has published, so well that I'm down right jealous, and her newest release "In the Shadows" is no surprise. I'm glad to see something of length and value do so well.

So, what has me singing her praises....

Aiming for the top

The great experiment is about to begin. Can a transgender fiction book break into the top 100 on Amazon? This book has a shot. It has been ranked as high as 58th in thrillers, surpassing people like Stephen King and W.E.B. Griffin. So, for this week, and this week only, Wrestling Against Myself is priced at .99 cents to send a message to Amazon that yes, transgender fiction can sell and should be featured prominently. Let your voice be heard by spending less than a cup of coffee at McDonalds and when you are done reading the book, leave a review as well.

Some Writing Updates

I try to let people know what's going on with me, especially after I don't produce something in a month. I am hard at work on Phenom, the fourth book in the God Bless the Child saga. I finally got to the main issue and it should be smooth sailing from here on out (probably not). I am over 50k words and I already see areas that I need to do major reworks over, but I'm hoping for that random bit of inspiration to hit me.

Free Manga Drawing book on kindle

I know we have some artists and aspiring artists here, so I wanted to afford you the opportunity to get this free book on drawing manga style stuff. I figured a few of you would really be into it and we can get stories with pictures. It's free today and tomorrow and if you could, leave the poor chap a review. He has given me some pretty good input on my covers and stuff and it's nice to help people outside the community too.

Needed: Web page developer - paid position

I need someone who can develop a few web pages for me and I'm willing to pay someone to do it. I need a really good author's web page and another one that is to remain secret. I've tried to do it with Wix, but that leaves me wanting. I know what I want, I just don't have the tools or knowledge to do so. Please send links to pages you've developed so I can see your work and prices. Thanks.

Some publishing news

Just to let those who are interested know, Growing Up Jenny is now available in paperback and on the kindle. This is a re-release and highly edited version of the original. It is roughly 15,000 words shorter and is free of many of the grammatical and spelling errors of the original. It is a very powerful story of a young girl who goes through SRS and has to deal with the communities response as she gets adjusted not only to her new family, but also her new self.

Transgender equality and your role in achieving it

So the petition to Amazon for them to create a transgender fiction genre ran up to 223 signatures and then it just stalled. Considering the amount of hits we get on this site, I think we can hit the goal of 1000 signatures in a day if people just took a few minutes out of their busy schedules to sign.

Petition Update - day 2

Yay for us. We already hit 100 signatures on the petition and I'm getting read to make the next move (media involvement). I really think this is important. It is about equality, but also about recognition that transgender literature and people are not all about sex. I am keeping the petition open for a week as I figure things out this Easter weekend. I would love for people to look at the intended letter going to Amazon and give some pointers or suggestions to make it better.

Keep signing and thanks.

Here's the link. I can't do graphics or I'd have confetti falling.

Update on petition to Amazon

So yesterday I started my petition to Amazon. I really should have done it much sooner because it is something that frustrates me to no end. Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords etc. have no dedicated transgender fiction genre and expect us to lump our work either under gay and lesbian or erotica. I don't think either is fair or right. But Amazon isn't going to do something solely for me, so I got organized.

Aren't you tired of not be recognized for what you do?

Can you believe that Amazon doesn't have a transgender fiction genre, even though there are over 1500 titles available. To put that in perspective, it does have a Transgender memoir section with under 200 titles. I think that needs to change because fiction is a great way to educate while entertaining. Please sign and share this petition. Thank you, Katie Leone (Transgender fiction writer and a good one).

Is it time to quit

Every so often I get this bug up my ass that makes me think I can be commercially viable as an author. I don't know why I get it. I mean, out of all the transgender publishing houses out there, not one will touch my stuff but I see other authors who I outsell by considerable amounts continue to get publishing contracts.

But, I digress.

Want to really sell on amazon

There are a lot of people who have decided to sell their books on amazon, and it looks like the transgender fiction genre (that Amazon refuses to admit exists) is growing daily by leaps and bounds. One thing that I didn't realize is that over the past year I have really gained a wealth of knowledge. This isn't by trial and error alone, but also by reading a ton of books about marketing e-books. So I thought I would throw some gems out there for people.

Favor for a fellow author

Many of you don't know Tom Peashey, but some of you do because he has helped several authors with his invaluable editing skills. In fact, part of the reason my stuff is remotely readable is because Tom takes the time to edit my work and he does it for free. He does it with a few other authors. I won't name them, but if they want to comment, feel free.

Tom is also an author, but he is languishing on Amazon. He is truly a nice person who has decided not to act on his Gender Identity issues because he is married and has kids, but he can always turn to fiction.

Taking a break

Later on today I will post my story "The Stranger at the Table" and then I am going to seriously cut back on the time I spend online. I am going to be starting Phenom later today (the fourth book in the God Bless the Child saga) and also working on a biography, so it's not like I'm taking a break from writing.

Disappointed and Upset

I try really hard to put out stories that haven't been done before. I know there are a lot of people who want escapism and fantasy, but there are thousands of stories that fit that niche. I write reality, for the most part, trying to give voice to a segment of society that really doesn't have much to say in fiction. I tend to stay away for masturbatory fodder or the man in disguise motif. For the most part, I have been more commercially successful than most transgender authors, having the ability to appeal outside the narrow confines of the community.

The Stranger at the Table

There is a new Katie Leone book available on Amazon and it is going to be a little bit before the next one comes out. I try to stagger longer works and shorter works in order to keep my sanity. I am still recovering from Unreachable but it is time to move on. Plus, I am also going to be doing the biography at the same time, so that will slow things up a little more.

Additional pictures

Just to let people know, and I don't even know if people realized this, but the 2 missing pages of But, I am not a boy have been added. I hope that people take a look and comment and maybe leave a review on Amazon (I have absolutely none) of this important work. It is the first and only children's book written on a transgender subject by a transgender author (no offense to Jazz, but we know an adult wrote that).

So take a look and enjoy. There will be another post about something different tonight or tomorrow. I am sick and tired so I am going to hide in my bed and get well.

Katie Leone's last story

I have just finished my latest story and it will be my last. Right now it is on the way to the editor and I have to wait for a cover to be made. Like usual, I will publish on Kindle, etc. and then post the story here. Then I will take my leave and try to find other pursuits to occupy my time.
