Forced Fem

I've been working on a new story for months. I've pushed and shoved the plot and characters through several massive rewrites. Nothing seems to work. I know it will find its way out of me at some point and the effort is the joy/

Along the line I started to think about forced feminization stories. Is it possible those of us who have struggled with being transgender have tried to put a face on our compulsion through these stories? I know that my feminine compulsion has been the single most consistent driving force in my life. Nothing else comes close to matching it.

What's In an Efin Name?

The other day I was thinking about the pseudonym one of the BC authors has adopted when I ran across this website.

https://efinplan.com/

The site is all about online financial planing. "e" fin "plan".

Not "EF" in "plan."

Given how conservative most financial planners are, it's highly unlikely they have any idea how their name looks to many.

That Reminds Me

A thread about the need for a spell check before submitting stories reminded me of a learning experience.

I once read a story that was posted here and approached the author in a PM asking if she would like a private critique, to which she agreed. (What else could she say?)

I subsequently sent her five or six paragraphs of marvelous suggestions for "improving" her story.

She replied, "Or, I could sit on the beach with a glass of wine and enjoy life."

Does Suicide Have A Place On BC

Years ago I wrote It Brings On Many Changes. http://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/fiction/481/it-brings-many-cha...

The lyrics to the song that inspired the title were written by a fourteen-year old Mike Altman. It was meant to be "the stupidest song ever". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_Is_Painless

That suicide is painless
It brings so many changes
And I can take or leave them if I please

Harper Lee -- Or Not

A few months ago it was announced that Harper Lee had decided to publish anther book.

I was so excited I signed up with Amazon for first day delivery, because To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my all time favorites.

Before I had a chance to read the book I started to hear negatives remarks, but I was in no way prepared for the amateurish writing in Go Set a Watchman.

Either –

1.) Harper Lee was blessed with one hell of a good editor for Mockingbird, or,
2.) She didn’t write Watchman.

Life is NOT fair!!!

Last night was “one of those”. I had an unsettling nightmare that led to me tossing and turning in grim reflection of my life. At my age (67) and given the tumultuous and very public life I’ve had I had plenty to think about. After due consideration I was not surprised that each and every problem I’ve had in my life could be laid at the doorstep of my transgender nature.

Each flaw in my four children sprang from my cross-dressing.

Every set back in my business was due to me being less than 100% male.

Snarky Writers

For the many, many years I've been opening the door to this Big Closet I've been amazed at our communities ability to heap pain on one another. Maybe it's just what writers do.

I was reading a Bathroom Reader last night ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1607109026?psc=1&redirect=t... ) and found the following.

Truman Capote on Jack Kerouac: "That's not writing, that's typing."

Just Another Gettysburg Moment

My latest story just fell into the abyss (off the front page).

It was an average story for me, in that it took about two months to write with considerable research. It received what has become my normal reception, with 111 kudos, 6 comments and 2,966 hits.

I assume about half my hits are unique readers since the story ran over 15k words and isn't easily read in one casual sitting.

Boo-hoo, I Got Bad Comments

Last night, I read the first few chapters of J.K. Rowling's book, The Casual Vacancy. I know I'm three years late, but my stack of books to read is more ambitious than I am.

While I worked through the pages it occurred to me that the book had a LOT of characters and was written to appeal to someone who likes character-driven novels. Being character-driven restricts her audience from the majority who prefer plot-driven books.

Out of curiosity I checked Amazon this morning.

Hurrah for Caitlyn

It’s quite possible many of you are quite a bit younger than me. I’m the same age as Caitlyn Jenner and feel compelled to make a statement.

As a young athlete she was truly amazing. She was a American football player who became injured and had to switch sports. She made herself into a terrific athlete by putting in eight to tem hours a day in training. She supported herself during this time selling insurance at night.

All Those Things You Always Pined For

I Can't Give You Anything But Love, Baby

Adrenaline surged...daring every sensory organ in my body to absorb the tiniest nuances of my first day out in public dressed as a woman. I touched the velvety skin on my wife's arm. "I'm so lucky!" "Lucky?" Nicole shook her head in obvious bewilderment. We had stopped to find our bearings and stood in the hub of the Mall of America -- twisting and turning to keep from being trampled by over-stimulated shoppers. "What an understatement! You've always been lucky. How many other people do you know who've played the lottery once and won the Mega Millions jackpot?" The day they announced the winning numbers my life had spun like a ten-year old child in a revolving door. I had felt like that same kid on her last day of school -- only a hundred times more liberated. ... Less than a week after Nicole and I won all that money she had her finger on what was causing my disenchantment. "You've always wanted to be a woman," she had accurately said nearly eight months ago. continued...

To Alleviate Suffering

Jim and Heather had formed an eight-step pact during high school. They would attend Vanderbilt together and take those classes that would best prepare them for the MCAT. Once they had their undergraduate degrees they would: Get married, and apply for admission to Yale. After accepted, they would study to become surgeons, work diligently and graduate with honors. They would then return to Nashville and work for the largest hospital in Tennessee (the highly regarded HealthWing.) Heather would become Director of Medicine, and Jim would become Chief Surgeon. All goes according to plan except for one small change. A few months into their years at Yale, Jim decided that a career as a RN would be a much better fit.

Years later, Heather uses her administrative position at HealthWing to make mandatory changes in the nurses’ dress code.

Charles' mother is a live-in maid for a wealthy widow and her daughter. The daughter overhears Charles talking to his friends, and draws a hasty and wrong conclusion. She decides that "Charlene" needs to be punished for "her" indiscretion.

We come back to Charles twenty-three years later to see how this wrongful conduct changed his life, and what needs to be done with his mental "Residue."

Bringing Good Cheer

Local custom has it that Benfield Academy's chances to make the state playoffs in football are contingent upon the cheerleaders making all of the players happy. The quarterback has proved to be an unsolvable problem for even the most talented of them. These determined girls aren't going to miss their chance to look into the TV cameras and shriek, "Hi Mom!" - even if they have to add one more person to their squad.

Very Pleased

A number of years ago Amelia R and I made the decision to donate Peaches to Erin to allow her to sell copies for the benefit of this site.

Peaches was a work of love. Both Amelia and I wanted to get out strong message of love and acceptance.

Today I noted the blog from Doppler Press regarding the top selling LGBT book on Amazon being a Doppler Book.

I went to Amazon to check out the book. As Amazon does, several other books were listed as being something I might want to buy. Much to my surprisse, one of them was Peaches.

Acceptance

Often these blogs are used to pine for acceptance. Last night the trans community took a huge step forward.

"Transparent" won two major Golden Globes.

Not too many years ago an award to Jeffrey Tambor for his lead role would have been accompanied by nervous laughter and insensitive jokes.

It was a very good night.

Any Theories?? Erin??

I was looking at a site analytical tool which stated that 75% of BC's traffic comes from the U.S. and about 6% from the UK, 4% AUS, 4% Can.

Erin - Are these percentages somewhat accurate?

Given a semblance of accuracy it seems to me that a disproportionate amount of posted content (stories, blogs, and comments) come from the UK.

Do others share my perspective?

If so, do people have an opinion of why this is?

I've had a head cold the last few days so I read the Hunger Games trilogy.

1.) What's with the present tense? The author evidently thought it would heighten our intimacy with the narrator. Has anyone ever verbally told you a story in present tense? I don't think so. After a bit my mind simply ignored it and changed everything to past tense.

The Definition of Insanity

A giant redwood fell over the other day and was featured on the daily evening news. It seems this tree was old. Older than me. I wonder what it figured out about life that caused it to uproot itself.

After I posted my last story I asked myself . . . What the Fuck?

You see -- I never quite get around the idea that my next story will be my best.

I never see the rejection coming until Lucy's pulled that GD ball out from under my swingin' boot.

Who REALLY cares?

A few months ago one of the "writers" on this site asked if anyone minded if he rewrote their stories and published them under his name.

I stated flatly I didn't want him to go near mine and to my knowledge he hasn't. Of course I don't read his stories all that often so . . . when a tree falls in the forest????

However -- a whole gaggle of authors told him they didn't mind at all if he doctored their stories. To a confused person what sort of license did that provide for "rewriting"?

You’re sitting at your group’s favorite table, sipping scrumptious mixtures of coffee, ice, chocolate, and cream. Everyone has spent two to three minutes each sharing stories to “catch up”. It’s your turn.

You’ve got a great story to tell them, but they need to know quite a bit of background information for your story to make sense. As you go through that necessary information you notice your friends are becoming increasingly bored with what you want to tell them.

Fetish, Anyone?

Cross-dressing isn’t all that hard to understand.

Somewhere along the line the word fetish took on a negative connotation.

A fetish is an inanimate object that is felt to have magical or spiritual powers. What is negative about that?

Comments on this board about “not understanding cross-dressing” have made me go back to the basics.

Yes, the villain in this film is a woman.

The Other Side of the Suspension

It’s been forty-one years since I last taught a high school class. I went into business rather than to make the kind of “mistake” I watched everyone else in my family make.

My mother and father were teachers. My three older siblings all were teachers . . . and I watched year after year while they struggled to make ends meet while suffering daily abuse at the hands of immature and unruly children.

I’m sorry, but I watched the video of the boy who cross-dressed and was suspended. He’s appears to be an egocentric brat!

To Bear with Unbearable Sorrow

For many who frequent BC, a goal has been to achieve the unattainable.

We come to BC frustrated. We deem ourselves to have too many male secondary sex traits to succeed in a physical transformation.

For a while we read TG fiction to lose ourselves in a world that somewhat resembles where we ache to be. We closely identify with the protagonist and for a moment . . . know what it would be like to magically cross over.

Don't you ever get tired of angst, whining, and self-pity?

There has to be something positive in your life.

You are in charge of your attitude. That's a fact. It isn't just a bumper-sticker.

Life is about change. Good stories are about change. Life is about redemption. Good stories are about redemption.

When your stories lead to oblivion you've violated the contract you have with your reader. Readers are looking for that Hollywood ending where good prevails and bad is punished. It happens. Really -- it happens.

Recently an author asked if her writing sucked. Since writing is such a personal journey let's make that "Do I suck?"

Every author on Big Closet should look at Sue Brown's latest story . . . the second book of Football Girl.

It is as good as there is on BC. Yet, her latest chapter which was posted over two weeks ago has "only" attracted 1,475 hits, 88 kudos and 14 comments.

Many, many stories attract two to three thousand hits within the first two weeks of posting.

Testosterone Filled Locker Room

Why is it many discussions regarding transitioning seem to careen off into nonsense?

What compels us to argue over whether or not a person can reassign their gender without having surgery? I suppose it’s a logical extension of the internal battle we’ve waged since first becoming aware of our gender dilemma.

But . . . do we have to go the route of Frank Butler and Annie Oakley?

Here’s a verse from their famous duet:

Anything you can wear
I can wear better.
In what you wear
I'd look better than you.

Thank you

I have so many things to be grateful for this year. This has been one of the most stressful years of my life, but much of what caused that stress has been resolved and now all that angst seems so . . . meaningless.

There were many days when RL pressures became so intense I had to escape . . . and I came here.

Sure — there are those on BC who I think are laughable for a variety of reasons. And -- sometimes the rules are overbearing and the administration of those rules is heavy-handed.

All that being said — BC has given my life more purpose again and again for over a decade.
