Last night was “one of those”. I had an unsettling nightmare that led to me tossing and turning in grim reflection of my life. At my age (67) and given the tumultuous and very public life I’ve had I had plenty to think about. After due consideration I was not surprised that each and every problem I’ve had in my life could be laid at the doorstep of my transgender nature.
Each flaw in my four children sprang from my cross-dressing.
Every set back in my business was due to me being less than 100% male.
I was quite relieved to see the sun come up and got out of bed nearly two hours before I normally do.
It wasn’t until I read the online headlines that I realized things could be much worse. I could be Laura Bassett. Despite having been central in her team's historic success she will be remembered as "that" player.
To win the World Cup a team must have excellent defense and must steadily improve throughout the tournament.
Bassett was part of an outstanding defensive effort from England. As a centerback she seemingly provided the defensive leadership. Against Japan, England didn’t seem like the same team who lost to France, not so many days ago. They played well against France and at times seemed to be in control of that game, but their effort yesterday was much better.
I’ve watched the own goal dozens of times. It appears to me that had Bassett not attempted a clear, the ball would have run on to a Japan forward, who probably would have easily scored -- or passed to a teammate for an even easier goal. Bassett HAD TO try to clear that ball and made an amazing move to even get her foot on the ball.
After the game the coach of the Japan side made a snide remark about England, wondering how they got that far. He obviously saw a different game than I did. England dominated his team in the second half. His players know it. I assume his remarks are meant to help his players mentally prepare for the final, which should be a 2-0 U.S. win, if not 3-0. If Japan thought the pressure from the England side was rough – wait until they meet Rapinoe. If the US coach, whose tactics have been masterful, decides to allow Abby Wambach to dwarf the Japan side, the US team should score twice off corners.
Life isn't fair, but it does go on.
Good luck to England against Germany. Germany will be angry, which isn't going to be pretty with the most physical team in the tournament looking for blood. However, the world will be hoping for an England upset and another great game from Bassett.

Football Definition
The game of international football (soccer) has been described from the British perspective as 22 men (or in this case women) chasing a ball for 90 minutes and then Germany (Japan) wins.
Perhaps the English women will have better luck against the Germans..
I know it doesn't lessen the devastation but it was a very dangerous ball that Bassett tried so hard to clear. Own goals happen, it's the timing and importance of the game that amplify the effect.

Especially as England had dominated Japan for long stretches of the game and deserved more out of it, though the footy gods aren't easy to mollify. England has done very well in this tournament, I'll be the first to admit. I don't know how their mindset is going to be for the 3rd place game against Germany who are, as you've said, angry and looking for a measure of retribution after playing their worst game of the tournament.
As for Japan, all I can say to that is, they should be worried that the United States has finally started looking like themselves offensively, while their defense has been ridiculously superb. And everyone on the US team is focused on winning the World Cup this year...especially since it is Abby Wambach's last time through as well as Christie Rampone's. As for England, I'll wish them good luck, though I honestly do think Germany will win that game (and will be rooting for Germany despite also liking how England has done) and I am hoping for a US win in the final.
Let's hope the US's luck doesn't run out in the final after the semis either.

I am so sorry you had that nightmare. You crossdressing though doesn't make you less of a man. Look at Jaden smith, he wears a dress sometimes and skirts and he's a totes awesome young man.
I think guys look cute in skirts and stuff, but it's not about whether or not you look "cute" or whatevs. It's about how you feel as a man. You as a cis man like wearing feminine clothes, and there is nothing wrong with that. Society tells you it's your fault, for not being a stereotypical cis male but they're wrong.
Gender nonconforming cis males (and trans males) are totally a great addition to society. Just as Gender nonconforming cis females (and trans females) are too! The beauty of humanity is the vast different personalities and gender expressions we all have. Sure a lot of society tries to beat into us that for you as a man you have to be physically strong, tough, not show emotion and that's horrible. And for me as a woman I'm taught I'm supposed to be weak, given to my emotions easily, that I cant lead, I cant speak up or I'm "too bossy," I cant be angry or I'm suddenly "less attractive" and a "bad mate." (feel free to add more for the male side, as a woman I'm not as well versed on all the things men have to deal with)

Not an expert, not even a novice at football (soccer), but I just don't see the connection here. As far as I know, all the women players are GG.

Have you seen the keeper for Germany? On F - M scale she's a nine and I'm a four. She's probably a GG, but demonstrates the nonsense of the "two gender" proponents.

I have a reoccurring nightmare that being transgender is the root of everything bad that has happened in my life. In reality, it is a core part of me and probably does play a role in most of my life events, good and bad. I wouldn't be me without it. To wish it away, if that were possible, would be like wishing myself away.
To draw the comparison, a very talented footballer did exactly what she should have done, only to have poor execution and will always be remembered as the woman who scored on her own team. That's despite the fact she's had a key role in the surprising success of her team.England was ranked sixth in the world and will play today for fourth or third. Scoring an own gal can be devastating. . .look up Andre Escobar. His actions were almost exactly like Bassett's. Some people believe he was shot as punishment for his mistake. Crazy!!!!!
Also crazy is the difference between the angst of my nightmare and reality is understanding that we are the sum of everything we do and all or core features. Transgender has been both a personal burden and an unbelievable gift. My creativity is centered in my female side and has made my business flourish for five decades.
The day is fast coming where those of us with two spirits will enjoy all the positives of our nature and will suffer few consequences that cause guilt and shame. Every day transgender is seen as less of a stigma.
Laura Bassett will be seen as a great player by those who know the game.
Years ago I ran a marathon. People would ask me what my time was. I soon realized that only a few had a point of reference. Had I said "four days" they still would have answered "Good job!". I appreciated every "Good job!", but highly valued those who knew what every minute less meant in effort. Laura Bassett will come to understand that those who think her actions cost England the game, don't have valid opinions.
Every day the number of people decreases, who can express valid negative opinions about people like us for our transgender nature.
At least that's how I think football (soccer) fits into this site.

I struggled with that concept early in life. I was one of those who kind of expected it to be fair, and would get really pissed off when it wasn't. It took me well into early adulthood to accept that it was not. It caused me lots of extra problems through out school & my school years,
including butting head with authority.
By the way.
I do Not believe all your problems sprang from your cross-dressing. It may feel that way at but it is unlikely. However, It probably did acerbate a lot of them. Besides life not being fair it also tends to be full of problems, at least part of the time.
Yes, some people do get more then their fair share of problems,
but remember.... "Life is NOT fair!!!".

Women's football ...
... is very small beer in the UK in general and certainly in England. It gets virtually zero coverage in the media whereas mens football occupies at least 60% of the sports pages. In England, sport and football are generally accepted as synonyms. I have no interest in it, personally, but I hope the relative success of the team means more women take up active participation, which is what really counts.
I've never been much of a spectator but I've been active in a variety of sports from motor cycle trials to dinghy racing none of which get any coverage at all except there's some sailing at the Olympics. At least cycling will get a mention for the next 3 weeks when the Tour de France is held. Though neither Giro d'Italia nor the Vuelta de Espagne get more than a few inches.
Being hopeless at sport but enjoying playing/competing I prefer none team events where I can enter and have a go without needing to face the humiliation of being picked last.

Women's Soccer (football) in the US is the third most popular women's collegiate sport, and even more popular than that at lower levels. Not that that translates into a lot of coverage because men's sports suck all the life out of the media. Men's soccer is barely a blip, compared to gridiron (football), baseball, basketball, hockey and motorsports, though growing, and yet probably still gets more coverage than the women's game unless the national team is doing well in the World Cup or Olympics or something.
But the popularity of girl's soccer in primary and secondary education probably helps explain why the US, hardly a soccer power in the men's game, is truly competitive in the women's. There IS a women's professional league in the US but they mostly have to stream their games on YouTube. If soccer were taken more seriously here, the women's team would probably be truly dominant.

NWSL games to be broadcast on Fox Sports
The NWSL is the current, and third attempt, at a US professional women’s league. They have reached an agreement with Fox Sports to televise 10 upcoming games of the current season. Apparently Fox thinks there is enough interest in women’s soccer to try broadcasting a few games. It also helps to fill the broadcast schedule over the summer months when the major European leagues are on break.
