Chapter 6

Am I dreaming? Am I dead?

That’s what Claire thought as she was walking through the woods. The area was foggy, but the moon lit up the trees.

“Over here Claire!” was the voice she heard. It was the same voice she heard as she was clinging to life on the log going down the river.

When I was twenty-two years old, something similar happened to me. It's kinda funny now.

Chapter 5
Two different worlds, that’s what Charlie lived in.

He wasn’t two different people. Charlie and Claire — they were one and the same inside.

The two worlds? One was the world of Windham Manor. It was the stately world that Claire was spreading her wings in. It was the world of endless possibilities.

Tomatsu Ichikawa stopped looking at the glass in front of him and studied Hiromi Sato instead. He was fifty years old give or take a few years, and had a pockmarked face. A lit cigarette dangled from the man’s lips.

“So am I, Sato-san. If my bosses knew you were here....”

Synopsis– Agent Chrysanthemum’s body is located and Gabrielle Tanaka makes contact with Hiromi Sato.

“But Mom, Do I have to wear Sarah’s clothes until they find my suitcase?”

“Yes, and I know she packed two swimsuits, so you still get to go swimming. Now go start your bath, while your sister and I find something for you to wear to bed.” I went in the bathroom and started to run my water.

Chapter 4
“You are really quiet, poppet, is there something wrong?” Meggie O’Hara asked her son as they dressed Eli and Samuel.

“Nothing is wrong, Ma,” Charlie said as he pulled the nightshirt over Eli’s head and then grabbed his younger brother’s shirt.

Meggie knew better. She knew something happened at Windham Manor. She just couldn’t figure out what it was.

Mom froze. "Marcie Auburn?" she repeated cautiously. "Is there something you want to tell me, Marcie? You're not planning on eloping, are you? You're too young to get married... in fact, even if you were old enough, I don't think you could get married."

"Who's Robbie?"

"Captain of the first fifteen - the most civilised of the muddied oafs. He's a serious athlete - trains on Mars bars and bananas. You must have seen him, Susie."

"Oh that big gorilla," she laughed and poked me in the ribs. "Hey, Jeffrey, you know what they say: if you look like a monkey don't walk around carrying a banana."

I sat down with my back to the rock wall and put my hands on my belly.

"Oh, Lord," I said, "let this baby be a small one and make it come out easy." Then I drifted back to sleep.

Amanda thought about the previous day’s events as she sat in the waiting room at the therapist's office. Nicholas's appearance at the ballet school caught quite a few people off guard.
