Looking at the lack of comments on the latest chapter of Working Girl (1 comment - thanks stanman), I was thinking maybe that the story may not grip the readers as much as I hoped. If that is the case, I feel that it may be a good idea to give her a rest for a bit and let her enjoy the cruise.
This isn't me throwing my dummy (pacifier) out of the pram, it's just that there are so many good stories on here at the moment, people are spoilt for choice and it's possible that Working Girl is running out of steam or isn't going in the right direction for the readers.
It will give me more time to concentrate on my other stories too. One worry is that the quality of my writing (if quality is the right word) might suffer if I start getting hang ups over this.
Anyway thats just my thinking at the moment.

I'm sorry that your not getting all the comments that you want. I love your stories and I promise that I will start leaving more comments in the future. With me, when I finish reading a story I start on another one right away. Most of the time I don't think to leave a comment and I'm sorry for that. Please don't stop working girl. It's a very good story.
I really like your writing
I really enjoyed Working Girl, and when the bastard got put away, that was pretty much the end for me. Sometimes it is just easier to start a new story.

I enjoy your stories very much but I imagine as lot of readers like me ,are also very depressed over the death's of two authors this past weekend. Plus in the news there was death of the reporter Tim Russert which hit a lot of people hard because he was such a decent reporter who listened to all sides of an issue and was very objective which is rare personality these days in writing or in journalism. Please give people another chance and I am sure things will turn around.

It is a long road ahead but I will finally become who I should be.

Even though I've been off the grid so much that I've missed just about
everything since I found Home Alone.
I think that last week, what little I remember of it, was just an off week for everyone. If you scan the front page, you will see that the short stories did
fairly well last week because they were so good, and because I don't think that
even the folks who had the time to read felt a lot of energy.
As you know, I write longer stories, and althought I got amazing comments from
a good percentage of the people who logged into the story, the numbers for hits
were much slower than I've ever gotten.
"Panties" was fun, and "Sixpence" was simply amazing. Lots of my comments on
those were made with PM's. Speaking for myself, I just wanted a more personal
contact with everyone, because I was feeling some loss. I wonder if the PM volume
was much higher then usual.
Perhaps all of you who can, should write more short stories for now. Quicker summer
reading might be the order of the day. For those of us who can't (I could make a
dinner menue look like a Checkov novel!), well, we'll just have to rely on therapy!.

It isn't that folks don't like your story, but as you said... there are so MANY stories! If the average person is anything like me, they have their desktop filled with shortcuts to stories they've not gotten around to yet on one side and on the other are ones they've read but haven't gotten around to commenting on!
I like Working Girl, I've read the latest chapter, but didn't have time to comment. Tonight we are fogging (bombing) the house for spiders as we've had a recent run of finding Brown Recluse (at least 6 in the past 5 days). I will be cleaning up mess after that, so I will try to drop my comment off tomorrow at some point.
Hey once the killer stepdad hired reveals his/her self ...
then the story will get very excitng. But then the weird guy watching them could be a detective the good uncle sent to protect them and some inocent seeming person is the wouldbe killer.
Plus, Sue, you posted TWO great short stories recently and they may have syphoned off much of the comments.

I feel a bit guilty now as I truly wasn't angling for more comments on the story - I was just wondering if it wasn't to everyones taste. I know my humour is off the wall sometimes :)
I know it's a time of sadness here as we have lost some friends, it puts everything into context, I suppose.
I'll carry on with Working Girl for a while anyway and see what happens.
