She who must obeyed and I are going to the pictures tonight. We are seeing a film called The Bucket List.

It's evidently about two old codgers who are terminally ill and decide to do some exciting things before they fall off this mortal coil. Sounds a bit cheesy and contrived, but hey, so are most of my stories so I'll go there with an open mind and even more open wallet to see if it's an OK film.

It got me thinking (a dangerous thing for me) about what I would like do if I knew that I had a finite time to live and I'm hail and hearty enough to do things.

Top of my list would be to visit places that I have never been to and wanted to see like Niagara Falls, The Grand Canyon, Table Top Mountain, The Taj Mahal and a McDonald's that was clean.

I would like to dive off the Barrier Reef. Sky Dive and Bungee Jump.

I would like to go out dressed as a girl and not give a toss whether I passed or not.

I would like to kick my old boss in the goolies for being nasty to me.

That's just for starters.

What would you do?

No Change

I try to live each day as if it is my last. What I'm doing right now is what I would being doing had someone told me I have only twelve months to live. Maybe I would have had bacon with my breakfast.

Beyond kicking an old hated boss in the goolies ...

Goolies, almost sounds cute.

I remember an Alec Guiness film Last Holiday(?) where the doctor office gets files mixed up and he thinks he's dying. He goes on vaction and does/says everything he never dared. For while everyone respects and listens -- they think maybe he's Lord or govt minister -- then he finds out he's not dying. They start to turn on him. He leaves and one of the people berates everyone for how they acted. They are about to ask his forgiveness when they learned he died in a traffic accident.

I could see this as a story premise, except maybe he survives but is now stuck as a girl because he took the step to have SRS or go to that voodoo doctor, tied the experimental nanite/drug/DNA process or whatever that he was too timid to do when he didn't think he was dying.

I probably try and track down evey woman I ever was infatuated with and tell them what I felt. Maybe I'd get lucky before I died. WooHoo! That and go up to Donald Trump and tell him to *fire* that awfull comb-over.

Baldric. Yeah, maybe a few good deeds like trying to cheer up semi-suicidal TGs, throw some money in needy directions, otherwise no arguments,

What, if anything, would I change....?

I'd write more, share my stories as I'm beginning to do... play guitar with others, share my music, same with my poetry.

Been most places in this world that I've wanted to go, but I wood definitely spend more time with the people I love, in the places I love....

Just noticed the spelling slip up (wood v would)- but I think it's appropriate; I'd be spending more time out of doors, on the ocean and in the woods....

Why wait, eh?

My own bucket list

I have given this idea a thought many times. I would like to go out in a memorable moment whether it be good or bad. I'd love to leave my niche in American History. I've often thought about knowing exactly when I am due to depart this crusty old shell. [edited by Admin]

...I'd be a hero to all the veterans who have had problems with a system that abuses its mainstay.

Be careful

Even when it's only a fantasy, be careful with acts of terrorism.

A major problem with your dream is that you can never be sure that only the evil people would be there. Tim McVeigh wanted to destroy an evil government building, but he's remembered more for blowing up a day-care center.
How many veterans would idolize you if you took out as many of their brethren as you did worthless administrators?

You've mentioned before all the stuff that happened to you, and sometimes your dark place can be pretty scary. But if talking about it keeps you from dwelling there all the time, we're here to listen.

mad things

I made a list of things I wanted to do before forty and managed to do all but one before the dreadful day (last year). The sole remaining item was to ride on top of an Indian train, and I thought I might get a chance when I was despatched to Mumbai for a week last year, to train staff in our Indian subsidiary.

No such luck, but I'm supposed to be heading for our Bangalore office this year so may get a belated chance. If you think riding on the top of trains sounds dangerous you've never tried crossing a street in Mumbai!
