My friend, Edeyn Hannah Blackeney, passed away early Monday morning, Feb 4, 2013, apparently from a blood clot in her lung. She was 37.
A talented and prolific writer, Edeyn had many fans on BigCloset for her stories of the Sk8r Grrls and others, though she had not posted much recently due to work and personal life.
It got down to 18 degrees F here last night. The water main has frozen and we are without water for making coffee. Oh, what shall we do in the land of bottled water? :)
Apparently, when enough people discovered the new watcher feature to keep you notified about new comments on posts, it broke the system. For now, we've had to turn watcher off. Sorry.
Wolfpacks have a hierarchy of respect, obligation and deference. At the top of this hierarchy are the Alpha Wolves, usually a mated pair but sometimes a single individual. At the bottom of the structure is the Omega Wolf. The Omega eats last and is chased and bitten by all the wolves higher up in the structure.
If the Omega wolf dies or leaves the pack, a new Omega ends up being chosen quickly and is not always the wolf that was formerly the one just above the old Omega.
Two days and about $400 bucks. Might not seem like a lot for some people but this is for a tiny unit in a mobile home. Heck, in today's economy, that's about 2/3 the value of the home.
First night this winter it actually got below freezing here and my furnace went out at 10 p.m. last night. I didn't get to sleep until the dog got under the covers with me about 2 a.m. because SHE was cold.
Got the repairman outside looking at it now, if it's an electrical problem, he should have it fixed soon. If it's the heat exchanger, well, that furnace is old enough to have run for president against John McCain. Third party ticket though, so no hope of winning.
Got to take Cuddles to her eye checkup in an hour, looking forward to the heater in the Nissan.
Christopher Leeson's Noel isn't exactly a traditional Christmas story. And yet, in many ways, it is the perfect Christmas story, being about redemption. It's also one of the stories that convinced me that the net was a wonderful place to discover and display actual well-written fiction and so led almost directly to the founding of BigCloset as a site for displaying and discovering TG fiction.
Daniel is the artist on the webcomics I work on, Quillian and Sam Valentine. He's also a sculptor of some skill. He did these beautiful little figurines of the characters Alistair and Zook from the strip I write and draw myself, Alistair2Zook. Click on the image to go to the (partial) online archive of the strip.
Simply put, because it is bogus. It's exactly like criticizing a story for having a sex change in it. "Fresh Start" stories appeal to some people but not to all, so it is appropriate to decide that if a story has an theme or element that you do not enjoy, then you weren't the target audience for the story.
Story comments, in case anyone wondered, are for commentary on the story and the writing thereof. They are not for speculation on whether the author had the right to post the story, or for guesses about the writer's political opinions, mental states or educational status. Nor are they for inflammatory comments about current social climates or current affairs. Note the qualifier there, inflammatory.
I always hate doing this but Hatbox funds have not met November goals and it's already December and bills are coming due. I easily paid out more than $1000 dollars in November to keep the sites associated with BC up and running so I'm a bit short for all of my other bills this month.
If you can, please chip in using the Hatbox link in the right column, or email me if you want to send me money by PayPal or Post Office.
The last five days or so, I've had a sinus headache. This has been aggravated by the continuing changes in air pressure as several mild storm fronts moved through the area. But it's better today.
Basically, the latest update to one of the background parts of Drupal broke the mini-editor or rather the mini-editor's integration into the editing box. The mini-editor is the string of little boxes above the editing window that lets you automate inserting structured HTML into your stories, blogs and forum posts.
Sephrena will probably not be on tonight as she has just got out of the hospital after flu with a high fever and an emergency trip. She's home now but is probably going to be in bed for a few days, recovering.
Please think of her, she does a lot of behind the scenes work here.
PW which provides and manages most of our ad space is down, probably due to connectivity problems or power since they are in Toronto but I don't know where their servers are.
Writer's Digest has extended the deadline for their short fiction contest, you have until October 31, 2012 to make entries in six categories. There are no limits to how many entries you can make. Grand Prize is $2500 and a trip and other goodies. Six First Prizes are $500 each. There is a fee for entry.
A week ago Monday we equaled the number of stories and chapters that FictionMania has archived and by Thursday we had definitely passed their mark, currently we have about 40 more stories than they are showing, though both sites have seen new stories posted in the past week.
Not to make too much of a big deal about it but in paying a large bill related to keeping the site online, I unintentionally used a debit card instead of a credit card. Because of other checks and debits outstanding on the account (it's the one hooked to Hatbox and the one I use to pay costs associated with keeping all the sites online), I'm going to overdraft by about $60 bucks on Monday.
So any payments into the Hatbox before that will be very much appreciated and will save me about $35 in overdraft fees.
I never like to do this but bills keep coming due. If you can please contribute. Either click on the Hatbox link i the right column to donate via Amazon or communicate with me through PM and I can give a Paypal or postal address. Thanks.
That was $1560 which I put on a credit card that I had paid down with the money received last month. We're not doing to badly this month with raising enough so I can make more payments, considering that Piper is also asking for help with her planned move. We've got $861 in the Hatbox and most of that came in in the last week.
Checks can be made out & sent to:
