Yuri raised his glass as he looked at each one of us.

“To absent friends and relatives. We will carry out the dive off Sardinia, but will not be going east, as planned. I have arranged for us to spend a little more time at this end of the Med, so that our rendezvous can be reorganised. We will relax at Monaco and stay there a few days.”

Brigitte had remarked to Peter that there were any number of XY girls who were far more natural at being girls than he was despite he being XX. Peter had caustically replied that that was hardly surprising because they were girls whereas he was not.

“So, what is it you want to talk about?” asked David Wetherell as he stabbed chunks of lamb with his plastic fork.

“Medusa?” Jenny said as I stood outside her front door. “Why are you here?”

“Can I come in? I’d like to talk to you,” I said.

“Where are my manners? You can move into my room if you need to. Come in.” She lived in a larger than normal home in the wealthy part of town.

We sat down in a breakfast nook of the kitchen.

Chapter 1

It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, I was on board a ship, and I was on holiday. I had joined the Royal Navy as soon as I left school, just meeting the minimum height requirements, and had forged a naval career as a specialist diver. Now, at nearly thirty, I was Leading Seaman Michael Brown. I had just finished working on a salvage job and had put in for two months leave.

“I don’t remember us ordering the calamari appetizer,” I said aloud to myself.

Opening the wedding invitation that evening was like a stab in the heart, even though I had suspected this was coming. I sat down on my bed and heaved a huge part-sigh and part-sob. Vicky had chosen Pete over me, so that was that. It was easy to see why she might think he was the better choice; he’d always been more successful and manly than I was. In business he was doing extremely well, on the path to becoming a young executive, whereas I was never going to be executive material; I didn’t have much of a head for business. And Pete did seem like a nice enough guy, at least compared to some of the losers Vicky had seen in the past. Even though he was my rival I’d always almost liked him.

Chapter 3

Abigail appraised my movements and told me to take shorter steps with my feet trying to follow a straight line. Then I had to lose my slouch that the weight of the breasts were forcing on me. We worked on all of these until I walked correctly, with my head high and my shoulders back. That was a whole new feeling.

Andy and Megan come up with a plan to hide him and protect him from the drugs gang while the police decide on immunity for him.

The next day, we were packed and in the back of the car, heading for the next event. It was a busy six weeks, going from one signing to a hotel, followed by another signing and then on towards the next hotel. We were well looked after, had some time for rest and time in a salon once a week. The signing, in Norwich, had all of Ellie’s family in the queue, and we took them for dinner afterwards.

After struggling with baulky rigging, the Downwind Dasher arrives at Bibek with the other vessels. Margrave Simbran is waiting there to give the visitors a proper welcome.
