Forsythe Saga - Life is full of Surprises

Adrian was away in Scotland doing on what he called ‘a fact-finding mission’, which left just Cliff and Maxine in the Office when the phone rang.

Maxine saw the caller ID and answered it.
“Oh, hello Mum. What’s up?”

“Why am I asking? Didn’t we speak for nearly an hour at the weekend?”

“No. I don’t think I am busy tomorrow night. It could work out pretty well as I’m due at a meeting in Devon the following day.”

“No, he won’t mind. He’s busy with a different project in Scotland.”

“What time and where and why?”

Chapter 06 -- Standin' on the turnpike, thumb out to hitchhike

The next morning saw us at the bus stop before dawn. Ben had it all planned out. We took the bus to the intercity bus station downtown, and all paid a couple dollars each for the bus to San Rafael, a town on Highway 101, which ran right into Eureka to the north.

The Benton Bass Federation Fishing Rodeo

The 'Fishing Rodeo' was an annual tournament that was sponsored by the 'The Benton Bass Federation' a local association of professional and amateur fisherman and women. The tournament often meant big business for the downtown merchants too, as tourists from the surrounding cities and towns would flood in, some even entering their names into the event in hopes of claiming the bragging rights that came with catching the biggest fish. And of course, some hoped to pocket their share of the prize money being offered.

Roomies - Part 22

Once the ice was broken, Tina and I quickly warmed up to Andi. She was sharp and funny and had a huge heart. Despite all the stuff she went through growing up and the tension and drama she saw daily working as an E.R. Nurse, she had the most cheerful outlook of anyone I'd ever known. Maybe knowing how tense and bleak life could be, she had a better appreciation of the micro-joys of each ordinary day.

A few days later I got a text from a number I didn't recognize. But I had a hunch.

“Hope you don't mind. I got your number from Zoe. What are you doing?”

Senior Moments: Dressing up in the age of social distancing

I’m retired, single, in my mid 60’s, quarantined and I’m bored. I’ve been cross-dressing since I was 5 and would use crayons and colored pencils to ‘paint’ my nails. Cherry Popsicles were my lipstick. Over the years the qualities of my cosmetics and panties have improved vastly.

When the quarantine began over two months ago I vowed to dress 100% of the time as my alter ego feminine self. On the first day of sheltering in place I shaved my legs, shaped and painted all my nails. Since I wasn’t going anywhere it seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Here is proof that commenting helps. I got three early, positive comments on the last chapter, and they inspired me to spend that night writing, finishing two more chapters. This is the first, and there will be another tomorrow evening: Dawn

GEORGE CAN’T SLEEP

“I was working out how big Castle is. I have a rough idea now. It’s much bigger than Earth, about another quarter again. Earth is about forty-eight million strides around, but Castle is about sixty million strides around.”

THE EXTENT OF AUTHORITY

“Oh the whisky liqueur! Don’t like it myself, even when not pregnant, too sweet for me. I prefer malt.”

Cardinal Sin

I was a professor of law at a small Catholic university. I preferred the title professor to “father” even though I was an ordained priest and a theologian as well. Some would say that I was a rather well-known theologian. Others would spit and call me infamous and the spawn of the devil. In the context of the Catholic Church I’m considered a raving mad leftie. I prefer liberal. While I don’t think I question the basic tenets of the Faith I certainly question that the social system of the first centuries AD in the eastern Mediterranean basin should dictate how the Holy Church is organised today. Recently I had been involved in some rather heated debate.

That was probably the reason why the Dean was falling to pieces when he received the message that His Holiness Johannes XXIV had requested my presence in Rome AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Ghost Stories And Urban Legends of Benton (2)

The downstairs bathroom of our house has always given me the creepy-jeeps. Even when I was little, I hated going in there. It always felt wrong, like someone was watching me do my business from behind the mirror. When I was seven, My older sister Lily invited three of her best friends over for their weekly slumber party. This was around seven years before I discovered I was really a girl named Jamie. At the time, I was just a slightly underweight, blonde haired, blue eyed, petite boy with a round face and an extremely soft tone of voice.

Coven encounter

Coven encounter

“I should have known before I even tried that the coven had thought of everything.” I thought to myself.

I had stopped on my way home and bought makeup remover, nail polish remover, a pair of hair clippers, and a set of male clothes, but they all proved useless.

The makeup and nail polish survived my attempts to remove them without so much as a spot, and while I was actually able to cut my hair, it regrew in seconds.

The Odd Squad -2- Shoplifters

Detective Sergeant Julie Rowntree and Detective Constable Trudy Terry had been thrown together by North Yorkshire Police to form a specialist team based in York. The main reason they had been grouped together was because they were considered to be a pair of oddballs that other teams did not particularly want to include, Julie because she was a transgender woman, and Trudy because she was labelled as a ‘man-hating feminist dyke’ even though it was not true.

Eve fortunately had set the alarm on her phone otherwise I fear we would have slept all morning. The combination of the evenings alcohol and the late night love making had whacked us both out. Eve jumped out of bed first to make us both a mug of tea before we showered.

Ghost Stories And Urban Legends of Benton (1)

For several generations, a rumor has persisted among the residents of Benton, Mississippi that the swampy bottomlands south of town are home to a monster that is said to stand nine feet tall, have fiery red eyes and possess immeasurable strength and endurance. The monster is said to walk upright on its two feet and is said to swing its massive arms as it stomps through the countless streams, brooks and creeks that crisscross the thick woodland, the best is said to be covered from head to toe in thick, tar black fur that's often matted and muddy.

Chapter 62 – Bringing back the ship

Kalosun heard the same shattering of wood that Jason had heard, but from only a few feet of distance. This was followed by a splashing sound and the ship began to roll in the waves. Jason had visited him a few hours earlier, just before the storm picked up, and Kalo suggested that he and the three drunks could weather the storm on board. Suddenly that seemed a less than wise decision.

I was feeling a lot more relaxed after dancing and staying clear of alcohol for a while. The water was helping I supposed but after consuming so much I needed to relieve myself. Eve pointed me towards the bathrooms and made no offer to come with me. I knew I had no choice but to follow the symbol for the women’s bathroom.
