“Come on, June. You got to get up and get ready for your interview today.” Mike pulls the covers off June.
“Do I have to?” June didn’t want to get up.
They had gotten in late in the afternoon, after picking up the violin and the paperwork saying it was one of the lost Stradivarius. She could sell the violin and pay for her operation.
“Yes, you have too. Now, get up and go take a shower. I’ll see what dresses you have that will make you look good for the interview.” Mike turns and heads towards June’s bedroom.
June drags herself out of bed and head into the bathroom.
She spends at least fifteen minutes in the shower and dries off. She heads towards her bedroom to see what Mike laid out for her. She spots everything he laid out. Her cute little black dress, a pair of French cut high brief panties.
She gets dressed and applies some of her favorite perfume. She puts on some light make-up and her favorite diamond earrings. June looks at herself in the mirror and gives her hair one more brush.
“Here goes nothing.” She grabs her folder that has her resume, contacts, and a copy of her driver's license.
June walks into the living room where Mike was waiting on her. She looks towards him “I’m ready.”
“Good, because if you had taken any longer, I would have been late for work.”
“Sorry.” June follows Mike out to his car.
The drive to downtown Norfolk takes them twenty minutes. Mike manages to catch green lights to downtown Norfolk. to the parking garage, he normally parks. He turns and looks at June “let me know how things go for you.”
“Thanks, I’ll text you.” June lightly kisses Mike’s cheek and gets out of the car.
She walks up Granby street towards the orchestra office. She opens the door and goes inside. As she walks in, at least six other young people
were waiting in the reception area. She walks up to the counter “hi, I have an interview for the assistant position.”
“Your name?”
“June Sidlow.”
The middle-aged woman looks at her list and spots June’s name. She looks towards June “please have a seat.”
“Thank you.” June turns around and sits down on the nearby sofa. There was already another young woman sitting on the sofa.
The young woman looked to be about her age. She looked to be nervous.
“Are you here for the interim position?”
“Yes, I’m trying to join the orchestra and I figure if I can get my foot in the door. I might be able to hear when an opening is available for the
orchestra.” Lily wanted to join the orchestra.
“What instrument do you play?” June was curious.
“I play the violin. I’ve been playing it since I was in elementary school.” Lily enjoyed the violin and how it sounded when she pulled her bow across the strings.
“I’m June by the way.”
“It’s nice to meet you, June. I’m Lily.”
“Nice to meet you, June.”
While they are sitting waiting to have their interview. Three more people come walking in. two more young women and one guy. Altogether ten people were waiting for interviews.
Slowly, one by one they are called to be interviewed. When it was June’s turn, she follows an older lady to a nice office.
The woman double checks everything she had put down. When she was satisfied, she looks up at June “Mrs. Sidlow, tell me why I should hire you for this unpaid position.”
“I’m dependable and have a love for music. I’m not afraid of hard work and I’m familiar with the area. I’m not saying getting paid for the job would be helpful, but I’m already self-employed and can support myself on what I do.”
“What do you do, Mrs. Sidlow?” Carolyn was curious.
“I sell antiques and unique items either online or at the flea market on the weekends.” A smile appears on June’s face.
“You do know I might need for you to work late or run errands. Do you own a car?”
“No ma’am, but I do have access to one.”
“What are your goals? And why do you want this position?”
“My goal is to make money, but I also like to learn about music. I had to give it up when I dropped out of high school.”
“Why did you drop out of high school?”
“Because I was being bullied and the school did nothing to stop it.” She wasn’t about to tell her that the bullying was because she was trans.
“I see.” She makes a few notes on the interview sheet.
After a few more questions and observations. June is informed she’ll be called for a final interview. As she leaves, June wonders if she did
something wrong. Maybe she shouldn’t have said anything about dropping out of school.
She texts Mike letting him know she was done with the interview. She informs him that she was heading to MacArthur Mall and do some window shopping. She puts her cellphone in her purse and starts walking down towards the mall.
She stops at Seven/Eleven and buys a bottle of Pepsi. She also buys a cupcake, since she didn’t eat anything before leaving the house. She leaves Seven/Eleven and walks down to MacArthur Mall. She heads inside the mall and does some window shopping.
