Birds Of A Feather Part 6

Early Sunday Morning:
Kara is woken up from the signal device they had been given at two in the morning. Kara reaches for hers to shut it off, but remember that when the device goes off. It meant they were being signaled to come in right away.

She falls out of bed and untangles herself from her blankets and sheets. She hops around looking for her clean jumpsuit and put it on. She for goes to put on her bra but doesn’t, she puts on a pair of thong panties she grabbed out of her dresser.

Jessie was laying in bed in the nude. She nearly jumps out of bed when the alarm goes off. She opens her eyes and the light from the emergency signal device was lighting up her bedroom.

“Oh, shit!” She runs over to her dresser and grabs a matching set of bra and panties.

After putting them on, she slips on her skintight suit and boots. She grabs the specialized wristwatch and keys to her car.

“Kara, are you ready?”

“Yeah, who’s car are we taking?” Kara follows behind Jessie.

“Mine.” Jessie runs towards her car and gets into it.

Cortney’s Place:
Cortney is woken up by the emergency signal device everyone on the team was given. She stumbles out of bed and gets dressed. She yawns as she puts her panties and bra on. She was told when the emergency device goes off, she was supposed to wear her suit. She puts it on and adjusts it so it is sitting right between her legs. She was regretting having Power Girl’s body.

Once she is dressed, she grabs her car keys and rushes down to her car, and speeds towards the airbase. She was glad that all their cars have been equipped with emergency lights, so they could cut through traffic.

Jennifer’s Campsite on the reservation:
The emergency signal device goes off in Jennifer’s tent. She is woken up and saw the device flashing red.

“What is she thinking?” Jennifer puts her suit on and hops around in the tent while she puts on her boots.

She sends a text to Chief Running Elk that she’ll be back to grab her stuff. She steps out of the tent and seals it up, so no snakes get into it. She mentally triggers her mystical abilities and feels her wings poke through the special design suit. The wind around her stirs up as she flies up into the air.

She has recently discovered that she has the abilities of the legendary Thunder Hawk from Native American legends. Which meant, she could fly at incredible speeds. She flies towards the airbase and when she arrives, she notices a major operation going on. She locates Pat and the rest of her team and land near them.

Pat was about to inform the team she was putting together. On what their mission was when Jennifer flies in and lands near them.

“It’s about time you showed up.” Pat looks at Jennifer with a serious face.

“Sorry, I’ll try to be a little bit faster.” Jennifer saw all the other ladies standing around.

“Here’s why all of you were called in early. Blake Medical is sending in their react team to help the wound and to help fight the fire going on right now. Cortney, Jessie, and Kara you three will be helping the fighter-fighting team going in. The body armor you’ll be wearing will protect you from the flames and heat. You’ll also be equipped with special fire fighting gear to help put the flames out.”

“What’s the gear, Pat?” Jessie was curious.

“It’s a special foam that is bio-degradable. It will smother the flames and cause them to go out. When your tanks are empty, come back here to the transport and reload. Jennifer, I need you to fly above the fire and give us some rain. I need heavy rain, but not a storm. Can you handle that?” Pat was aware of Jennifer’s abilities.

“I think I can do that. You want me to use my mystical abilities to bring the rain.”

“Yes, and be careful up in the air. According to the fire chief in charge, there have been fire tornadoes and such forming, and the last I checked, your wings aren’t fireproof.”

“No, they aren’t.” Jennifer felt everything that affected her wings.

“How about me, mom?” Stephanie had come along to help out.

“You’re to help the medics, Steph. Dr. Luster and Dr. Drazen are going to need your help. You’re also going to be protecting medical tents and
helping the firefighters who have been out trying to put the flames out.”

I can’t stress this enough, ladies. If these body armors are compromised, you will burn up in there. The body armors are self-contained environments. Also, on the back of each suit is connections where you can share your oxygen supply with any firemen that have used up their air. If you do this, you’ll only have eight hours of air. Otherwise, you can survive for three days on the air being recycled in your body armors.”

“Is there anything special about these suits?” Jessie was looking at the one designed for her.

“Nope, there isn’t anything special with these. However, the storage compartment on the back has enough supplies for you to survive for three days and there is a fireproof blanket in there that can protect up to four people from flames. If you are forced to survive or if you come across anyone unable to escape from the fire. Dig a ditch that you can lay down in and cover yourself with this special blanket.” Pat was holding up an unfolded one.

“Is that all, Pat?” Jennifer was ready to take to the air.

“One more thing, you’ll see two women wearing brightly colored body suits. One has bright color orange hair and the other one had bright red hair. The one with bright red hair is Mrs. Blake’s niece Wild Fire and the other woman Wild Fire’s protégé named Blaze. They can control and generate fire. They are holding one section of the woods that is on fire at bay, so the smoke eaters can do their job. Do not mess with these women. If they need help, help them, but otherwise, leave them to their business. It is taking all of their concentration to contain the flames around them.”

“What are they?” Kara was curious. She has never heard of anyone controlling fire before.

“They’re like me. Now, let’s get to work. Suit up and get out into the flames.” Pat turns to put on her suit.

“Mom, what are you going to be doing?” Steph looks at her mother.

“Testing some new fire fighting drones. Mrs. Blake’s robotic lab division has developed some new robotic firefighters to fight fires.”

“Oh, cool.” Jessie and Kara were impressed.

“Alright, ladies. Let’s get suited up and earn our pay.” Pat turns and walks into the transport.

“I’m taking to the air.” Jennifer flies up into the sky and finds it difficult to see.

She goes higher and causes a few nearby clouds to gather. Once she has enough clouds, she uses her mystical energies and causes them to start raining. She had to make sure that the rain didn’t come down hard, but enough to smother the flames.

Jessie, Kara, and Cortney were suited up and had the fire fighting foam canisters mounted on their backs, and started spraying their assigned area. Several firefighters had gotten themselves surrounded by a wall of flames that were ten feet tall.

“I’ll get them.” Cortney takes a deep breath and starts walking toward the flames.

She hopes the body armor she was wearing came as advertised. She sprays the fire-fighting foam at the wall as she walks into it. The outside temperature was on her HUD display inside her helmet. The suit's environmental system compensates for the outside temperature and keeps the body armor nice and cool.

She spots the trapped firefighters as she makes a corridor for them to walk through. She waves at them as she walks over to the group.

“Is everyone okay?” Cortney looks at the firefighters.

“George here was brunt. We need to get him to the medics right away.” Mike looks at the woman standing before him and his men.

“Alright, can you carry him or do I need to call for backup?” Cortney was keeping an eye on the flames.

“We can carry him.” Mike was curious about who this person was.

“Okay, follow me.” Cortney points the sprayers at the flames and starts spraying them down.

She was going to need to get new ones after getting the firefighters to the medics. She makes sure she isn’t too far ahead of the firefighters as she makes a path toward an area already cleared.

“Follow me.” Cortney leads the men back to the camp area.

Stephanie was running around helping the two doctors when she spots Cortney coming back with a group of men. She runs over to her “is everything alright?”

“No, this gentleman has been burned Steph. Get him over to the medical doctors.” Cortney looks at their youngest member.

Mike and the other men look at a short person wearing the same type of body armor as the one who rescued them.

“Who is this person?” Mike looks toward Cortney for an answer.

“She’s with my team.” Cortney gets a warning of the from levels on her HUD system.

“Come with me, sir.” Stephanie escorts the Fire Fighters over to a medical tent.

Mike and his men follow the shorter person to one of the medical tents that had been set up. He wonders who all these armor people were and what were they spraying the flames with. He saw how it put the flames out and disappeared afterward.

Cortney walks over to the mobile trailer and saw Jessie and Kara reloading their foam canisters. She walks up and takes her pack off and puts two new canisters into the sprayer unit.

“How is the area where you are?” Cortney looks towards Jessie as she changes hers.

“My area is almost out. How about you, Kara?” Jessie looks toward Kara.

“Mine is like an oven. It’s going to take more than these canisters to put it out.” Kara got one of the worse areas.

“Same here. I had to bring a group of Fire Fighters back.”

“We saw.” Kara finishes loading her sprayer unit with new canisters.

“Let’s get back to work, ladies.” Pat comes walking over to the travel trailer.

“Right boss.” All the girls head back out into the forest fire that was still blazing.

Patricia looks up towards the skies and watches as Jennifer crisscrosses over the forest fire. She starts feeling droplets of rain as it hits her face.

“Are you alright, up there Jennifer?”

“I’m okay for now. There’s so much heat below me, that gliding on the air currents is making it hard to fly.” Jennifer could feel the heat below her. She avoids a column of flames that just shot up.

Pat flinches when she spots Jennifer avoiding a column of flames.

“Just be careful up there. If you need to, go higher.”

“I will. I spotted those other two women you told us about. They are fighting back a roaring wall of flames.”

“Alright, if they seem to be over their heads, give them help.”

“Yes ma’am.” Jennifer dodges another column of flames.

“Pat, can I at least cause more rain to come down?” Jennifer was doing what she can, but the rain she was controlling wasn’t working.

“Try not to flood the area. I got to get back to the robotic drones.”

“Alright, I’ll be careful.” Jennifer increases the rainfall over the area.

Fighting a forest fire can be very tricky winds can shift in an instant.

Are no joke. I'm wondering if a hard rain would be enough to control that kind of fire. Probably not.

What's available

Like a lot of situations firefighters, police, and EMTs find themselves in, you don't always get to work with the best tools and equipment for the job, you work with what you have available. If you stand around waiting for the best tools, people can die in the meantime.

Right before I started 7th grade, I was badly burned over 18-20% of my upper body. When one of my older brothers heard me scream, he came running. He didn't have what passed for proper first aid in the 60's, he picked me up, ran inside with me and dumped me in the bathtub, and started filling it with cold water. Probably why I wasn't badly scarred.
