“If it isn’t me darlin’ Lady Cameron,” announced the arrival of Mick O’Rourke, consultant urologist.

“Mr O’Rourke,” I nodded but he held out his hand and when I went to shake it he took my hand and kissed it. He then shook hands with Simon.

“Dat was your girl, wasn’t it?”

“Danielle, yes.”

“And dere’s anudder up on da ward?”

“Yes.”

“Okay, she’s gonna hafta wait a bit, but Oil do her later t’day.”

“What about Danni?”

“Ah, dat’s anudder matter. It seems she let her friend–an’ I use da term loosely–castrate her and remove da meatus from her penis. Oi’m surprised she didn’t bleed t’ death.”

“So what have you been able to do?”

“Oi’ve finished da job, she’s now got a vagina and small clitoris–Oi found enough of da penile head to do dat. She shoulda bled t’death, so she should. So she’s a girl wedder she wants t’ be or not. An act of stupidity. How old is dis friend of hers?”

“Thirteen.”

“What? Dat’s amazin’, thirteen an’ she nearly out operates me. If dey don’t lock her up, she could have a future as a surgeon.”

“Will you speak to Sammi?” I asked him, “Or would you like us to?”

“You can do it, tell her some toime dis afternoon, if dere’s no emergencies. You haven’t anymore boys?”

“Um–no.”

“Dis afternoon, den.” He bid us goodbye before I could ask if we could see Danni. I asked Ken Nicholls who said this evening would be the best time as she’d not come round from the anaesthetic until about then.

“She let someone do that to her without any anaesthetic?” he commented.

“I don’t know what happened, she obviously planned something but quite what I have no idea. She was gone before we noticed anything.” I said, adding, “If I’d known what she was up to, I’d have locked her in her room.”

“I’ve never heard of any such thing before.” His pager sounded, “I doubt if even you would be able to put Humpty Dumpty together again. I must go, au revoir,” he bowed and left us.

“What did that mad Irishman say?” asked Simon.

“Essentially, somehow Danni let Pia dissect out her genitalia leaving the skin and a bit of the head to form a vagina and clitoris. At least that’s what I think he said.”

“So I have another daughter–full stop?”

“Looks like it. I just can’t understand why?”

“Maybe she’ll tell us later.”

“If she survives.”

“Surely that’s not in doubt is it? Not in a modern hospital like this?” Simon looked very worried.

“I wish I knew why she did it?”

My mobile started to ring and I stepped into a quiet corner to answer it. It was Stephanie.

“What the hell is going on?” she asked bluntly.

“It appears that Danielle got her friend Pia to castrate her and dissect out most of her penis.”

“You’re joking?”

“I wish I were, Simon and I are at the QA waiting to find out how she is. Mr O’Rourke has done a vaginoplasty with the bits that are left.”

“Oh my god–well knock me down with a feather.”

“Sammi is rather miffed as Danni stole her theatre time.”

“What, your Sammi?”

“Yes.”

“Until I’ve spoken with her it looks like a case of jealousy.”

“That’s all I could think, but to let someone do that to you? It’s like something out of the eighteenth century before the advent of anaesthetics.”

“No anaesthetic–oh my giddy aunt.”

“Well how would two thirteen year olds get hold of a general anaesthetic?”

“How do I know? What’s happened to Pia?”

“I don’t know, I’ve got a social worker on my back and I half expect the police to become involved.”

“But you didn’t sanction this.”

“I know, but I didn’t notice she was missing for a while either.”

“She is thirteen and has some degree of autonomy.”

“I don’t know if that’s any defence in the eyes of the law.”

“I can’t believe she let someone do that to her, I need counselling to squeeze a spot.”

“I have to go, Steph, looks like the police are here.”

“Lady Cameron, could we have a word?” asked a rather tall but polite policeman whom I followed to the room where I’d spoken to the social worker. He was still in residence. The copper stood by the door as we were introduced to a Detective Inspector Joyce. I hoped her first name wasn’t the same as her surname. It wasn’t it was Jane. DI Jane Joyce, I wonder if her parents had literary illusions?

“Lady Cameron, why did your son let his friend hack off his penis and testicles?”

“I don’t know.”

“You don’t know, yet you allowed him to go about in girl’s clothes and call himself Danielle? Hardly normal behaviour, is it?”

“It was for her.”

“Her? He’s a boy–or was.”

“She asked to be allowed to live like a girl.”

“And you let her?”

“Yes.”

“Because you’ve done it before?”

“Yes.”

“How many times?”

“Four but one died.”

“Not from genital mutilation?”

“No, a brain aneurysm.”

“So, every male child you’ve had has changed their gender?”

“Yes.”

“And you haven’t sought to encourage this?”

“No.”

“Are you sure?”

“I think I’d like a lawyer present,” said Simon firmly.

“Why? What have you got to hide?”

“Nothing, but these questions are irrelevant.”

“Are they?” asked the DI and the social worker nodded agreement.

“Of the four biological male children who came into my care, two were already presenting as female when I met them. We simply allowed them to continue as they wanted on the proviso that they could revert if they wanted without any comebacks whatsoever.”

“So why didn’t they?”

“Presumably because they seemed happier presenting and living and being accepted as females.”

“Are you sure you didn’t encourage them?”

“If you ask that once more without a lawyer here, I’m going to put in a complaint.” Simon stood up and dialled his mobile. “Jason, get your arse down to the QA immediately, we’re in A&E being bullied by a detective.” Simon was obviously listening to instructions. “Okay, mate. Sorry Inspector, this interview is postponed until our counsel arrives.”

“I could always arrest you?”

“Feel free, but even then we don’t have to say anything without a lawyer present.”

“Very well, please don’t attempt to leave the hospital.”

“We won’t,” Simon said firmly. Instead we went and got a cup of coffee and told Sammi she would be done later. Her mood lifted immediately.

“How is Danni?”

“I don’t know, we haven’t been able to see her yet.”

“Give her my love.”

“We will.”

It took a further hour before Jason sent the police off with their tails between their legs. The lead up to what had happened would only become necessary if charges were being laid, and as we weren’t the party guilty of the assault or mutilation, being unaware of it and being against it, it looked like Pia and her parents would bear the brunt of the police investigation. Jason managed to discover that Pia was in custody as were her parents, even though they also claimed no knowledge of what was happening and only discovered it when Danni screamed. It appears she let Pia anaesthetise her with chloroform which they’d managed to get for supposedly killing laboratory specimens.

I was shocked.

The only question left...

(in my mind, at least) is how willing of a participant was Danni in all of this?

Thanks for the continuation.

That Poor Little Girl

littlerocksilver's picture

I am certain she will need a lot of blue light before this is over. I have a horrible feeling that Danni may have been hoodwinked; however, to counter that, she was demanding hormones and blockers. I'm sure she'll be in the hospital for quite a while, unless Cathy can work some miracles. Trish should be a big help, too. Julie is going to need to do her roots soon. That might be therapeutic. Goddess, I don't want Danni to be miserable.

Poor Danni

Please be kind to her, she's suffered ever since the school trip and now needs some peace and love.I'm sure Cathy and Trish will help her . Bloody tears can't see the keypad.

chloroform

CHCL3 can be really nasty stuff even if used properly I think it went out or common usage back in the 1950st due to its spotty performances.

There are so many calculations that could lead to the same conclusion it boggles my mind' Did Dannie panic when Catherin
confessed her doubts about her being female?, Did Pia just nipped lousing the one close friend she could Id with?. Was it the still ever present male hormone still present that gave Dannie the certainty this was correct and necessary?.

To explain the last one. One of the observations I have made or IMHP, People new to understanding they may be girls rather than boys still have the male certainty that comes from the organs they still have between there legs. Testosterone has a drive factor not to be underestimated or over looked.

I had quite an adjustment from when I just was on my blockers to when they had done quite there job scrubbing most of the T out of my system. For my self I was not as certain and was able to have my fears that surgery was not my path. But as I lived on I discovered that yes I did truly desire to go to the end of this journey.

I just pray and hope that this is what Dannie wanted as it is now what she has for the rest of her life. Maybe the blue light will help smooth the rough edges and aid in the acceptance.

This is only my observations and I am not a Dr in any ways or means. This is just from the school of been there done that. I have a closet of t shirts from the journey.

Praying for the best

I think Pia ...

is the odd one here. The child has certainly got problems though Danni must bear some of the responsibility after all she let Pia administer chloroform.

The expression 'boys will be boys' has a particularly bizarre ring to it here, but thirteen-year-olds can be perversely experimental and inquisitive. Perhaps that curiosity went a bit too far when combined with some obviously serious gender identity issues.

This is a (to me anyway,) weird circumstance but not entirely unexpected.

Never a dull moment

I have spent the the better part of the last 5 weeks reading all the thousands of chapters that is Cathys life. I am sad to see the trouble that Danni has gotten into and look forward to reading more about these great characters.

No one has the right to tell you that you can't be you.

Well, I guess Danni is living as a girl now

Sure hope she doesn't change her mind. What would lead anyone to believe that a 13 year old friend could do complex surgery. (Even if they saw it done in an online video which I suspect was part of their research.)

It's hardly surprising ...

... that both the police and social services are suspicious of the percentage of formerly male children in the Cameron's care who emulate their mother and choose to be female. Two of them chose to DiY surgery which is, to say the least, extremely risky. Of course, this is fiction and very enjoyable fiction at that but I'm sure, if this was real life, the Sun on Sunday (aka the News of the World) would have a field day.

It remains to be seen if Danni regrets her decision and precipitate action. It'll be interesting to see how Ang decides to treat this episode.

Robi

Has anyone considered.....

D. Eden's picture

The possibility that Danni was not a willing patient? Chloroform can be administered without consent by soaking a cloth and holding it over the victims face. Perhaps Pia didn't ask first.

Dum Vivimus, Vivamus

Good point.

If it hasn't already occurred to our raconteur it may have put an idea into her devious and and (sometimes) evil mind. I assume she still writes this on the fly without thinking too deeply about the consequences of each day's output. That's one of the things I enjoy about this - its unpredictability.

Robi

I don't trust Pia!

I think the previous post about Danni being done against her will is spot on. I can't imagine anyone enduring that kind of pain willingly. In my own time of desperation even I would never have done that. But..... then Ang never does make it easy. Great story!

Carol Anne

Danni obviously

went to Pia's house of her own volition , Whether she knew what was about to happen is a question only she can answer.... Surely Danni would be aware of the terrible risks she was taking, Which does make you think she may well have been the unwilling participant of Pia's desire to have someone else the same as her... Whatever the answer is, The only thing that does seem certain is that Danni and Pia will not meet again for quite a long while...

Kirri

Are we missing something obvious?

Our beloved author has left some rather subtle hints about Danny, at least in my viewpoint. The last three or so episodes show Danni still in conflict about his feelings even to the point of not wanting to do her homework and leaving the house without permission. That evening (last night in the story so far) after the evening meal she went to her bedroom and was doing her homework when Cathy checked on her. Danni must have been feeling better, or Cathy would certainly have entered the bedroom for another mother/daughter-son talk .At the very least Danni would have been nervous and Cathy would have noticed. That visit didn't happen.
From this point forward, I think Cathy is dreaming. The near perfection of Pia'a surgery also suggest Cathy is dreaming, and the arrest of both Pia and her parents could just be Cathy emotions about them (or at least Pia) are being reflected in the dream.

I am probably wrong (I usually am) but it certainly is a scenario that is possible.

Don't let someone else talk you out of your dreams. How can we have dreams come true, if we have no dreams?

Katrina Gayle "Stormy" Storm

Was Danni a willing participant in all of this?

Julia Miller's picture

Maybe they tricked her. You can make chloroform at home, using household bleach, acetone, and ice to keep things cool. Whatever the reason, Danni is a girl now, and will never be a boy again physically. It's too bad this happened but I believe it's a plot device to get Cathy in trouble (this is a fictional story after all) since every boy under her care has turned into a girl. Sure it's not her fault, but things can be twisted in court. The Police will probably charge her and the SS will probably try to take her children.
