I've decided that when your 73 that recovery from major surgery takes a lot longer than when your in your 60's. And that the doctor was right, you will have good days and bad days. Hi all.

Well, it's my turn in the barrel. I've been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. So, on Wednesday 11/7, I will be having my thyroid and some lymph nodes removed. I should only be in the hospital for two or three days (I hope). Then I get to glow. I get to take a radioactive iodine pill.

Hopefully, I won't leave Tommy's readers hanging too long by their acrylic fingernails.

I'd made a trip to the College of Engineering’s Dean’s office to pick up the books and paperwork for the two classes that I’ll be teaching. And I’d met Dr. O’Riley, who I’m going to stay as far away from as possible. The Dean’s secretary told me that he’s a womanizer.

When I finally looked at the books that I'd been given, I found that they were well out of date and would not be suitable as a college textbook. I called Dr. Joe, and he was coming over. And I was now on my way to the University’s Bookstore to see what they were selling to students.

Did Dr. Kilmer do this on purpose or is someone screwing with me?

Then on Tuesday I heard from Vickie and learned that the people who could allow Kai to teach were getting together on Wednesday and that she and Dr. Joe wanted me there. Talk about nerves.

Now, after presenting myself to this group of people, I was sitting in a room across the hall from a conference room where my fate, so to say, was being determined.

Awéé’? Me teach classes? A passenger.

We had spent some time at the range with my aunt and uncle shooting our rifles and pistols. Then Ajie and I took a hike that took us past the remote hogan, and we found Naainish there. He told us that Peshlakai had been ‘talked to’ and not to worry about him. Then Naainish asked me to visit a dying sheep rancher with him, which I did. It was an interesting experience.

When I’d gotten home from being with the old sheep rancher, I’d checked the answering machine. I was hoping that I’d hear from my advisor, Mr. Robertson, about my grad assistant position. But no such luck.

Then I had just enough time to change from Kai to Tom, and make it to the hospital to pick up Amy. When I arrived at the hospital the hallway outside the emergency room was a flurry of activity. I stopped and looked. And ...

The gun range. A hike and Naainish.
A visit.

Yesterday had been an up and down day. We found that Peshlakai was still in the picture. But Uncle Gaagii told us that he knew of someone that could have “a talk” with Peshlakai if need be. We also found out that the guy that I was supposed to be a grad-assistant for, Dr. Kilmer, was about to go before a faculty review board.

We had used the mud pool to try to help both of us relax, and it worked. We also found out that next Friday would be the last barbecue of the year. That made us sad.

The Sunset was an excellent one, but the storms building to the west showed that we were going to get a thunderstorm or two. As the storms approached, I warned everyone to get off the cliff, and all but one guy did. He wanted one more picture. And that turned tragic. Lightning struck him, and he died.

Sunday morning when I woke up to the smell of breakfast cooking and Ajie looking down at me with that cute smile on her face. I smiled up at her, and said, “Morning lover.”

She bent down, kissed me, sat back, and said, “Good morning sweetheart.”
