This is a shameless plug, yet again. Following a chat with a trans friend who is also an author, I looked up her work on the net and found the website 'goodreads', which is mostly a place for readers to comment on published works. It also gives authors a chance to put up a little about themselves.
Well, a surprise yesterday, with an e-mail at work sent to my male name from someone I used to work with many, many years ago (80s). In summary, "Hi, remember me? Living back in Abergwaun* now, someone from Dover says you are writing books now, how you doing? I was in a writing group, any tips?"
[My reply]
"Oh! Astonishing! But hey, no problem. Can we talk about writing? I think I'll buy your books"
I wrote some years ago of a film called "I Want What I Want", and referred to it in 'Sweat and Tears'. Robi was good enough to send me a link to the book, but the film was lost. It has now been reissued having been transferred from tape to DVD. A dated film, but very much a part of my youth. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Want-What-DVD-US-NTSC/dp/B004J4RQYQ/...
I wrote 'Sweat and Tears' to raise two issues. One of them was an attack on the 'forced fem' trope, which Dorothy has slapped down with her short-short. The other was as a condemnation of the abuse that has gone on for so long in care homes and places for young offenders.
I wrote John Forster as a closeted gay man, lashing out at others before joining the army, only admitting to himself and the world what he was after being caught at it. Here is the reality.
This is a video of what the weather has done to Aberystwyth, home of Sarah's university in 'Cold Feet' and 'Sisters'. At the end of the video, you get a look at the hill they go up in the panoramic railway.
As the title line says. If anyone does wish to buy my books, the easiest search term for them on Amazon is 'Sussex Border Stories'. I continue to work on Elaine's story, in 'Sisters', part 4 of which is up today.
Odd how it now feels almost like work, now that I am being paid for it...
I have been picked up by a website that reviews and promotes LGBT literature. I must admit, some of their stuff is a bit raunchy for me, but each to their own. The site is called 'Bending the Bookshelf', and they intend to post a short interview of me tomorrow.
The seventh volume in the Sussex Border Stories is now up on Kindle. A search for that phrase (SBS) will bring up all seven, and a link to my author page.
Sometimes we wind up so absorbed in ourselves that trying to cope with the present we miss the world. I have been visiting a friend, post-surgery in Charing Cross.
I have just submitted 'Ride On' for publishing on Kindle. The best way to find it (for it isn't up for another day or so) is to search on Amazon books under "Sussex Border Stories".
I have just returned from the Shrewsbury Folk Festival, where, what with workshops and sessions, I spent about six hours each day playing. For three days, and two hours on the first evening. I was playing bodhran a little, but all the rest was mandolin, mandola and, er, ahem, nothing to see here, move along, um... banjo. I know I got photographed in the big session, but the rest of the time was music.
Nothing better to do before this weekend (a music festival!) I sorted Cold Feet for Kindle. Go*gle 'Sussex Border Stories' to find most of my e-books. Sales are steady; I have almost made enough for that cup of tea!
I am working on the final episode just now. It has been delayed as a result of an argument with myself as to resolution, as well as real life problems of an unpleasant nature, but it will arrive shortly.
Well, I entered the BBC competition. No great hopes, but I got a reply today. My script hasn't been selected, but they have told me it reached the top 16% of entries. Now, there's a compliment!
I needed it all day, as I couldn't watch the match live. I finally saw it last night on catch-up. Those of you who are also Welsh need no telling. What an immense game! What a stunning result! What amazing singing!
There was one tackle, put in by the Welsh hooker, on the far side of the pitch, that was so hard the 'thump' was clearly audib;e....
