A thought on front-page scrolling

Just a thought. Since we have such a (wonderful) influx of oft' posting authors as of late, the rapidity of the front page scrolling down and away has become an issue to be thought about. I have an idea...

Why not have a small plain-text "sticky" post at the top with the past three days (and links to them)?

That is, like the "Leave a Comment" post, it stays up at the top, but has just quick links to the stories that've been posted in the past two or three days?

For example, right now it would be:

Modern Dwarf?

Edeyn A dwarf. I'm talking a bona fide, Tolkien dwarf, just walked out of my office. Short, had the build, a full beard, the scottish accent... but she was wearing pink hotpants, stilletto heel boots, and a tube top... That was surreal.

I think I totally need to compile a collection of, Tales From the Tax Office, at the end of April. Even if there's no TG content, it could be a durn good read...

Coulda Been... For Christmas

I would very much like to think I would find a point in which I had no more of these fantasies "in me" as it were. Unfortunately, I don't think that time will come anytime soon, so I'll continue to contribute these almost memories as necessary.

This didn't happen. The real story is less proactive, but really... this is what might have been in different circumstances. There's a kernel of the relationships at work here, but...

Underdog!

To ANYONE who was a fan of the old Jay Ward cartoon, Underdog -- the movie with Jason Lee as the voice of Shoeshine/Underdog is a must see! It has everything you want to see from the original, it has enough in-jokes to keep you giggling and enough "new" feel to it so as not to be stale! I rented it, and I will be buying a copy as soon as possible! There's even an all-new Underdog cartoon as a special feature on the DVD! Oh, and everyone's favorite henchman actor, Patrick Warburton is Cad!

As a warning, there are spoilers below this line!

Fun With Old Sitcoms!

Anyone remember the television shows from the late '70s and early '80s? There is one that has always been one of my very favorites, and now that the

DVDs are coming out, I've become inspired. Well, inspired at least to silliness poking fun at the opening of the first episode...

So, the below is just a few moments of mischieviousness, read on if you wanna!

Carlotti's Way - Mookminder

This was not what my father wanted for me. I thought that fairly often, these days. I shook my head to make the thoughts go away, and opened up my ledger. With Engineblock disappearing, I only had to manage eleven, ah, free-range bodyguards for Heavy Sal Hadrian. Well, until Salvatore found him another fella to round out his 'Double Half-Dozen' again. In this business, you needed guys like Engineblock and Niner, but at least Heavy Sal used the threat more than he acted on it. Heh. Kind of like the 'good' gang of mobsters in that Keaton movie back in the '80s... what was it called again?

I was awake. I knew I was awake, because the pain told me so. It is said that you don't feel pain in your sleep. So, if I was feeling this, I must have been awake. I don't think I wanted to be awake.

I opened my eyes. Nothing changed, so I held a hand in front of my face. Well, I tried to hold a hand in front of my face. My knuckles encountered something rather solid, and I still couldn't see what was going on. I closed my eyes again. If there's no real difference between closed and open, may as well keep 'em closed and keep stuff from getting in them, right?

Interesting...

Okay, so I was talking with a couple of the other National Novel Writing Month folks that are writing a superhero story, and the two "main" comic book universes came up. We started comparing each other's writing styles to characters from them. My word count being rather ambitious (see my other blogs), someone made the comment that I was a cyborg or a witch. I made known my preference to be known as a Word Witch (hee!). Then... someone else made the comparison to Galactus, the Eater of Worlds... I am (apparently) the Eater of Words. I have been dubbed the Lexivorous Word Witch. Yeah, that's all I had to say. Just thought that was nifty.

Coulda Been... Yet Again

Another fantasy, and it looks like dedications are gonna be the norm for these. I think these pieces are helping me, but writing them is really painful. I sat sobbing for a good two hours halfway through this one, and if you want to see the real story of what happened, it's in my blog on here. I'm not going to link to it, it's easy enough to find.

Coulda Been... Another Time

Third one of these. I'm definitely enjoying writing them, as it's always better to think of pleasant things. A fantasy of what might have been if events had allowed, this one set between the first two installments. Another dedication in this one, too, maybe I should go back and dedicate the first one to my mother...

Coulda Been... Too

So, it looks like there'll be more of these. I don't think any of them will be easy for me to write, but I'm finding them oddly... cathartic. Cleansing, even. Another fantasy of how things could have gone. If I write more, they won't be in chronological order.

Coulda Been...

Alright... the idea behind this is thinking back on how things have happened in my life badly. This is, on a basic level, I guess, my fantasy of how things could have gone. This was the first such scene in my life that occurred to me to write about. There may be more, but I don't know. This was difficult for me to write. Only about 1000 words, with the intro and title.
