WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A former Army commander who underwent a sex change operation was discriminated against by the U.S. government, a federal judge ruled Friday in an important victory for transgenders claiming bias in the workplace.
I've been watching a TV feed out of New Orleans, and there are some problems starting to occur with water over-topping the levees in places. Say a prayer to the deity of your choice. So far things are doing fairly well, all things considered.
Wow! I thought I'd check the news before turning in, and I found this on MSNBC. Two things are striking, the first being how much this parallels the story PB wrote in All Things Denied; and the second being the divide in generations. The kids are accepting while their parents are not. I think that bodes well for the future, things are (slowly) getting better.
From US Magazine: One of the 14 girls who will compete on the new season of America's Next Top Model — which returns to The CW on September 3 — is transgender.
"My cards were dealt differently," Isis, a 22-year-old former receptionist, tells Us Weekly exclusively in its new issue, on newsstands now.
There was a segment on ABC Primetime tonight about women with Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (AIS). Unfortunately, I forgot all about it. The video is available on the ABC downloads website at ABCnews.go.com but I lack a highspeed connection. However, I might be able to gain short access and download it.
Interesting letter in Dear Abby this weekend. It's from a person in Tennessee who's concerned about the son of some prominent townspeople. Seems the boy, who is in fifth grade (12 years old), has not been allowed to get his hair cut and is being teased about looking like a girl. Now, this would have been heaven for most of us, but the writer terms it child abuse.
While wandering the web tonight, I stopped by the Skepchick website. This website is crewed by some wonderfully independent thinkers with a knack for finding and writing about things I find interesting and/or amusing. While browsing through the various bits, I came across a link to another blog, by Greta Christina.
A transgender man who kept his female reproductive organs despite his transformation is now five months pregnant and will appear on Oprah Winfrey's television show, the talk show said on Tuesday.
"I'm a person and I have the right to have my own biological child," Thomas Beatie, of Bend, Oregon, said in excerpts from the show, which airs on Thursday.
There is a wonderful poem written by a 12 year old girl in today's Dear Abby column. It's called "Don't Judge" by Lealia Xiong from Guilford, Conn. The poem can be read in it's entirety online here:
Something interesting happened today when I went out to eat, at one of those chain steak/buffet places. As is usual on a Sunday it was mostly filled with families, three generations or more.
I was seated next to an extended family who were there along with the grandmother. Three little girls, about 10, 8 and 6 or 7, something like that. The kids were playing and cutting up a bit, not dreadfully so, but a bit annoying. Then the oldest came back from where the three of them had gone off to, and Grandma asked "What's wrong, did the girls run you off?" Well, my head popped up at this and I looked again. Pretty pale blonde hair in a long shag with bangs, pierced ears with a small crystal/fake diamond in each ear, non-descript unisexual clothing - jeans, t-shirt, and sneakers. Could this be a boy?
I ran across a Reuters story on Yahoo News the other day, telling how researchers had changed the sexual prefences of female mice by altering the functionality of a certain organ in them that processes pheromones, the vomeronasal organ.
I kept waiting for one of our more articulate members to post some meaningful comments on the incident at Virgina Tech on Monday, but as nobody else has spoken up, I feel compelled to do so.
For those of you that love a lovely gown like I do, you've got to watch the PBS special "Celtic Woman - A New Journey". I loved the original special from two or so years ago and bought the DVD; so when I saw the new special on tonight I had to tune in.
Let me tell you, those women are wearing some of the most beautiful gowns I've seen in a long time! If you love to dress up, or dream about dressing up, you'll want to see these gowns! And the music these women perform is absolutely fantastic! Five singing angels and a beautiful blonde fiddle player, it's well worth the time.
While trying to find a book of Playboy magazine cartoons I turned up the following article on Salon.com from 1998. The title is "My Son, The Cross-dresser" By Lisa Stromberg.
I was scoping out my favorite TG comics earlier this evening, one of which is Jade Gordon's Lean On Me. I've always found her artwork to be lovely, and since she's currently needing some commissions, I thought it might be time for me to get some drawings for my K&K series. Following some links in an effort to see if I could afford her, I went to Lulu.com to look at the book cover she did for a story titled Fool For Love by Lisa Lees. The Lulu page has a link to a preview of this story, and I was captivated immediately. This woman can write!
Today is Thanksgiving Day, and I'd like to take a moment to count the blessings I have been given.
First off is my health. Some very dedicated doctors have kept me going far longer than even the most optimistic projections when I was a baby. Now, there are some who might argue that it's not that good a thing, but I'm not complaining! So Thank You, Dr. Lawrence, Dr. Miller, and especially Dr. Rebecca, my current physician. I suppose I should also thank the various pharmaceutical companies, but my substantial cash "donations" should take care of that! ;-)
High School English class strikes again! I thought I'd share this email I received with everybody, it's certainly good for a laugh or three! For all the aspiring writers out there, do not use any of these in your works! (But I do have to admit, there are a couple here I quite like!)
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch pedophiles are launching a political party to push for a cut in the legal age for sexual relations to 12 from 16 and the legalization of child pornography and sex with animals. The party said it wanted to cut the legal age for sexual relations to 12 and eventually scrap the limit altogether.
