I've decided to give wearing a dancer's belt at try. Not a gaff, but a true dancer's belt.
I've only had it on for a short time, but initially, I like it. It's comfortable and does what it claims. It holds thing up, out of the way instead of squishing them down between your legs where I sit on them and they get in the way of holding my knees together.
In actual practice, the belt does a better job of hiding the bulge then their picture suggests. I chose the full coverage back as apposed to the thong. The idea of something riding up in my plumbers crack it really unappealing.

No Extremes
Probably better than cutting it all off.

So many variants
Dancer belts come in many different versions.
Thong/full seat (under white dancer tights a thong really is better)
Various colours. If you use it for dancing choose a colour as close to you own skin colour as possible. Those "opaque" tights are not really that opaque.
Padded front or not. A padded version minimizes the contour even if the overall bulge gets bigger (though more like an extra kilo or so).
All irrelevant if you wear it under a skirt or a dress of course. I agree about the advantages.
Irrelevant if under a skirt or a dress
That's very true, unless it's tight pencil skirt, but I never wore one of those. There was a time when my attitude was that if I wanted to wear pants, I'd simply go DRAB and forget about it. But then I grew up in time when women rarely wore pants and certainly not out shopping and the like. So, like many of my trans sisters, equated DRAG with skirts and dresses.
These days it's not quite unheard of for a woman to wear a dress or skirt, except for formal occasions. One of my goals when out and about is to blend in with other women. The old axiom, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do," applies. Since most women wear pants of some sort, I do likewise. Most of my tops are tunic length so that part of the anatomy is mostly covered. But I do have a few tops that stop just below the waist (which is near the bellybutton on women.)
I chose full back and slightly padded. It spreads the bulge over a wide area and that easily mimics the slight pouch that a lot of women get after having given birth.

Women wearing skirts?
I had a somewhat disturbing realization in group therapy two weeks ago, that I confirmed this week.
Two weeks ago the session had 9 female participants, 1 male participant, the female therapist, 2 female therapists in training, and the me as a non-binary. And I was the only one NOT wearing jeans and sneakers!
This week it was 5 female participants, the female therapist and her 2 trainees, and me. And again I was the only one wearing a skirt (actually a dress). All the females wore jeans (some extremely faded) and well used sneakers.
I am beyond apologizing for wearing a dress at this point. Since the waistband of trousers or skirts will start to drive me crazy within the hour, and I will be in physical pain from skin irritation for hours after wearing pants (or skirts) for three to four hours. Even with dresses I have to avoid the waist-seam that is part of most dress patterns. I have had the seam of a short t-shirt drive me crazy. And even the infamous kangaroo pocket of hoodies has become a no-go for me. In short, any horizontal seam between my bust-line and my hip-line is a cause for severe irritation and even pain.
As always there are local cultures
At the university where I study skirts are quite common. Long, short, wide, narrow the whole range. Still, it's a minority garment. Though, while predominantly females wear those, there are a few males as well.
