Spirit of Giving
(Drumroll)... |
Admin Note: Due to the large number of entries which exceeded my expectations, I need to break the contest submissions off now. The reason for this will be explained below. If there is a submission you had ready today and were going to post, please pm me.~Sephrena.
In the Spirit of Giving, I was not going to run this like a usual contest. I fully intended to be able to pay ALL ENTRANTS a prize. That was my giving to our authors. I did not want to prioritize whose story was longer or who really had the most kudos - though that was along the lines when I first tried to think up how to manage this contest. I did leave a clue in a comment on the contest page that I would try my best to pay everyone who enters.
So in order to pay our current entrants, which at this time is 17 authors, it is necessary for me to close the submissions now so that the prize monies can be awarded. I did not feel that doing a normal voting contest for Christmas this time would be conducive for the health of our site because in the past, there have been some misgivings about it. We also have some new authors too that entered for the first time. So, I want everyone to WIN.
I was going to hold this off as a surprise until the very end, but the sheer number of entries kept coming in and has now hit the point I cannot pay past. I truly mean it when I said everyone who enters is a winner. And we of the site are also winners to read such top notch writing anywhere on the Internet.
So without further ado, here is the list of our Entries!
- A Christmas Gift by Karen Lockhart
- Ghost Gift by Dorothy Colleen
- Gift of Fate by Shauna
- The Bittersweet Gift by Shauna
- Amadeus Irina by Shauna
- The Christmas Ginie by Alys Prince

please give my winnings to the hatbox
keeping this place running is the only Christmas gift I need.
The payment date
is Jan 12, 2017 not 14th! I corrected that typo :)

Outstanding!
That's an amazing sentiment.
I had been using this contest to motivate me to finish a Christmas story I'd started a while ago, but not because I wanted a prize. So I may pretend there's still a deadline, just to make myself be productive.
Thank You Very Much...
I was going to go back to working on Home Is Where The Heart Is as soon as I could finish what I've been working on since Saturday evening, that being the prologue to No Place To Call Home. Currently 22 hours of work = 13,300 words, and still there's a fair bit to do. LOL
I guess I can settle down a bit and just write and post as I feel the need to do so, there's no need to rush it now.
The $100 will come in very handy for me, so you have my thanks; I will send you a PM with my Paypal info in a moment.
I got into this contest because I wanted to write something for Christmas, even though Christmas itself is something I don't celebrate. As I've said before once or twice here, when a story gets into you deep enough, you HAVE to tell it or go bonkers.
I wasn't looking to get a prize. I saw the prizes offered, thought it might be nice to win one, but wasn't worried about it.
Hey, wait a minute, I've been bonkers for longer than I can remember, but that's cool, I'm doing all right at the moment. LOL
My prizes for the competition
as was announced I have two prizes ($200 and $150) up for grabs.
I will read all the entries at least once and after some consideration I will give my results to Sephrena before she distributes her prizes.
So far I have resisted reading any of the entries so everyone has an equal chance.
Samantha
How about if I don't need to win?
I have an entry almost done (looks like 30K -- 35K words), just one or two chapters to go (I'm starting #20.) I'm hoping to have it done sometime on Thursday. (December has proven to be an unbelievably busy month, even though I'm off work -- transition, name change, two twenty-something going-on-two children :( .)
I don't need a prize, I would have donated it to Bigcloset anyway.
Can I "enter" it anyway? (Logo, tag.)
Yes you may enter it with Logo & Tag
It's absolutely fine hon. Ill add you to the straggler list in the awards.

Finally done...
I finally finished it and posted it. (Foster Mother) Again, I don't need any prize. (Although I wouldn't mind being in the group photo....)
I added you
to the list and need you to pm me.

Donation...
If I ever won a contest, I'd donate it back to big closet. Matter of fact, I might make a donation in January, since I know I got a Visa gift card for Christmas. I might give the hatbox $5 every month.

Please give my gift to Hatbox
I appreciate your efforts and want to keep the site going.
Boys will be girls... if they're lucky!
Jennifer Sue
That's extraordinarily generous...
...and totally unexpected. Thank you so much.
Mine really was a last minute decision to enter (OK, make that last two hours) so I feel rather a cheat! Please donate my lovely jubilee prize to the Hatbox.
Love and very best wishes
Charlotte
A truly LOVELY gift!
But, I never intended on keeping the prize--like many others here... I also am appreciative that my name came up three times and that was never my intent--so, either please give my winnings three times over to the Hatbox, or open two more prizes to other entries so that two more may enter. :)
HUGS and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Shauna
As Expected, I have a few stragglers
That will be included in the contest: Jennifer Brock, Asche, Enemyoffun, Mario Cawhern Davis, and an extra entry from Nessa M.
The information will be added to the awards list as they post. Everyone knows, I am not a meanie :)
Sephrena
Please put my prize in the hatbox too
I never expected to be offered a prize, and I would cheerfully offer $100 I never had to entice some more stories out of other authors.
Never saw this posted unfortunately
I left a PM.
Bailey Summers
I missed it...?
Darn it, I thought it would be over by December 24th. I was going to send it a few days ago, but I was going to rewrite it. Oh well, I'll send it to you soon, because it is a part of my stories...
