I am having a few internet problems at present. My ISP said my router was kaput, but it seems to be working okay at the moment. I shall prob change my ISP to BT (British Telecom) who have some good deals at present.
I shall persevere, however if you try to contact me and don't get a reply, maybe you could PM Angharad with whom I speak on the ’phone every day and she will pass on a message (I hope).
I could hardly believe my ears when I heard this item on the BBC News, particularly knowing how prim and proper Auntie (BBC) likes to pretend she is. We all recognise that farting in public is an anti-social–and unladylike–pursuit, but should it be against the law?
At 5.30pm on BBC Radio 4 today the iPM programme was particularly interesting to the trans community. Presenter, Eddie Mair, was talking to a former beautician called Penny, who specialises in helping transexuals with their appearance.
A murderer who brutally killed transgendered prostitute Andrea Waddell in Brighton, Sussex, England, has been given an indefinite jail term for raping another woman in Brighton five weeks earlier.
Nina Kanagassingham, the woman accused of the murder of cross-dressing human rights lawyer, Sonia Burgess, turns out to be a transitioning transexual.*
* Sorry if this seems like a sensational “tabloid rag lead-in”, but I used to be a newspaper journalist and old habits die hard, so I hope you will forgive me. :)
If you are plnning a holiday (vacation) in the Italian seaside resort of Castellammare di Stabia, don't bother to pack any of your minisirts, because you might end up with a hefty fine–or even in jug?
I have just had a ’phone call from Angharad to ask me to warn all you Bikefans that EAFOAB Part 1128 might not appear on BC tonight. Her ex-partner and their daughter are arriving by train during the evening for her Aunt's funeral tomorrow, so she will probably be unable to find time to write it.
She said not to rule it out completely, but that it was highly unlikely that she will find time tonight.
I have just had a ’phone call from Angharad to say that her Aunt (who had lived with her since 1987) died this afternoon at the age of 83. She had been unwell for a number of days.
Ang says that she might not be able to post an a chapter of EAFOAB tonight, it very much depends how she feels. She hopes everyone will understand if she doesn't get "the muse" this evening. I don't know if she will be on her ’puter this evening, but you could PM her, or PM me and I will pass on any messages when she ’phones me later.
…that there seems to be a small problem with his and Angharad's ISP which appears to be down for some reason. EAFOAB Part 1092 has been written (in fact Angharad read it to me–aren't I a lucky girl?) but she won't e able to post it till a bit later. She has gone to bed (to rest her knee) and hopes to be able to post it later this morning (23rd August).
BBC Radio 4 broadcast a programme–Case Study–at 11am this morning about the tragic history of David Reimer and Dr John Money's misconceptions about nurture versus nature.
It is available on BBC iPlayer–see link below. Well worth listening to.
A song sung by Scots at Hogmanay1 as soon as the bells begin to ring in the New Year.
A guid New Year tae ane an’ aw, ”¨
An’ mony may ye see!
”¨An’ durin’ aw the years tae come,
ӬO happy may ye be!
An’ may ye ne’er hae cause tae mourn,
ӬTae sigh or shed a tear!
”¨Tae ane an’ aw, baith great an’ sma’,
ӬA herty, Guid New Year!
As many of you might have realised, I have a questionable love of Limericks, so I thought with the festive season just around the corner, a Christmas Limerickathon might turn out to be quite entertaining.
Today, 30th November, is St Andrew’s Day and I would like to send my best wishes to all fellow Scots and those of Scots ancestry here on BC/TS.
How many of us will be tucking into haggis, neeps and tatties at our evening meal tonight? Not forgetting the dram of whisky poured over the haggis as “gravy”.
I spoke with Angharad on the ’phone a short time ago and she asked me to say that there wouldn't be a “Bikesode” tonight, because she was feeling very tired and was going straight to bed. She sends her apologies and hopes you can wait until tomorrow.
I must say she did sound very weary and not her usual cheerful self, so I am sure a good night’s rest will do her a power of good.
Something strange has happened to My Bookmarks. When I clicked on it this morning I got a "page not found" message from BC. A short time later the “My Bookmarks” link disappeared from the list at the top of the RH column.
Is it just me, or has this very useful feature been discontinued?
I never cease to be amazed about the mind-boggling things I learn from BBC Radio 4. About 5 minutes ago I learned that King Edward VII had a golf bag made out of an elephant's penis. Evidently it was presented to him by an Indian Maharajah. The same programme informed me that "Snow Golf" was invented by Rudyard Kipling when he painted his balls red.
As I said before, the mind boggles.
So what mind-boggling facts have you learned from the radio/tv?
Browsing through the BBC News pages, as is my daily wont, I came across this little item concerning number (licence) plates being withdrawn from an auction because they might cause offence to gay people.
In other words, Angharad's back home. She was up at “Sparrow Fart” this (Friday) morning–to catch her ’plane home–after over-exercising herself yesterday (Thursday) and is too tired to finish the episode of Bike she had started, so she has retired to her bed for the night.
However, she was not idle while she was away, because she sent me SNAFU-47 to edit, saying that she might add a bit more. She's not sure when Saphire will be able to post it, but it should not too long (after I've finished with it)
A nameless Council official in Flintshire in North Wales has decreed that Spotted Dick is unsuitable to appear on council canteen menus and that it must henceforth be called Spotted Richard!
I realise that this blog is way off-topic and has no direct TG connections, but today seventy years ago is very memorable for many London kids of my generation.
In case you are wondering why the next Aunt Greta chapter is so long in coming, it's coming out slowly as I have a bout of writer’s block. As you can see, I am doing my best to to get rid of the blockage…
…while editing stories for Angharad, Sue Brown and Tiff Q.
Sue Brown has asked me to tell you that there will be a few slight delays to forthcoming chapters of Changes and Football Girl for the time being, because her mother is ill in hospital and she has gone to be near her.
