I could hardly believe my ears when I heard this item on the BBC News, particularly knowing how prim and proper Auntie (BBC) likes to pretend she is. We all recognise that farting in public is an anti-social–and unladylike–pursuit, but should it be against the law?
Justice Minister George Chaponda says the new bill would criminalise flatulence to promote "public decency".
"Just go to the toilet when you feel like farting," he told local radio.
Just imagine all those poor Malawians feeling a fart coming on, clamping their bum-cheeks together and rushing in search of a loo to release their fart?

many states in the USA still have laws in the books that criminalize "spitting on the sidewalk" and similar anti-social behaviour. they haven't been used in decades, but they're still official.
one thing i'd like to know is how they intend to prove such crimes in court.

It's not really directly germane. The spitting on the sidewalk involved board sidewalks, dirt streets, and people that liked to sit and spit tobacco - making the sidewalks extremely slippery.
So, it made sense at the time, they've just never bothered removing the laws. Politicians HATE to be seen as 'not being pro-active!'.
With this... This is just silly. Everyone has to fart. It's not like you have a _choice_.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
