Having survived the first assasination attempt the girls are now accorded further police protection because of Erica's high value as a vital witness to the case that has now gone seriously international.

By dint of juvenile stupidity, Erica's school location is compromised but the trail proves to be a double edged sword insofar as the gang operatives have to expose themselves in order to get at Erica who now proves to be very useful bait for the police.

Once again, Iona is forced to leave her children so that their impressionable young minds are not damaged by Iona's and she can return later when the youngest children are better inured to her damaged psyche.
