"My Gender Lament" or yet another song destruction

My Gender Lament

Sung to the tune of "I'm Not Going To Let It Bother Me Tonight

With apologies to The Atlanta Rhythm Section

I fucked up my breakfast this morning
This life just gives me the blues
My gender is a tragedy
There's nothing that I can do

About all this hair and my jaw line
I'm struggling with my sorrow
And living in a danger zone
Might end it all tomorrow

I'm not gonna let it happen to me tonight
Not gonna let it happen to me tonight
Won't let my gender bother me tonight

Life in my body is a struggle
I look awful wearing lace
I just look like an old rat face dog
Like rats have chewed on my face

Trying not to let it bother me tonight
I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
The country's in an uproar and I see no end in sight
And it really does bother me tonight

Trying not to let it bother me tonight
Tomorrow I might go as far as suicide
It certainly does bother me tonight

Lord, Lord, Lord
I am nothing but trouble
And I've made up my face tonight
So bartender pour me a double, right now

But who I'm not is gonna bother me
Not being myself is gonna bother me tonight
Not being a woman bothers me tonight
My life's not tolerable and I see no end in sight.
But I swear I won't end it all tonight

Not gonna let my body bother me tonight
No I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
And some day I may try suicide
But I promise I won't kill myself tonight

Hang in there!

Your are gifted this, a blessing,
A curse you’re given, too —
To see beyond the world you see,
To know it’s less than true.
Your heart shows you an image,
The mirror cannot show,
The world just sees the mirror,
But in your heart, you know.

Give yourself a hug, Holly. Be well today.
