The last couple of days the temp has been above 30 C, with enough humidity in the air to make it feel much hotter. I've been hiding as much as I can, hoping that soon this will pass.

Maybe it just feels hot to you since you also have to be very cold adapted to stand the winter.
AZ hasn't been that bad; it's more humid, with thunderstorms and a little rain, but I think the max temp has only been 112°F = 44.4°C. It's relatively not bad because the record is 121°F and it almost always gets to 115 or more. I've not been great about getting up in the dark to bike at dawn, but I did walk my oldest dog before daybreak on the 10th. It was about 95° which was fine with no sun burning down at me. I think it got down to 92 that morning, maybe a 1/2hr or an hr after sunrise.
Are you in a situation where one day it could be 90 and humid and the next day down to 50 or so from wind off the Arctic Ocean?

in arizona the humidity is low like 5% to 20% on a bad day. In canada like here in manitoba humidity is 80% without a cloud in the sky and temp is 34+ this means it feels like 50 celcius. Going to arizona is like wow its cool as long as you move around standing in one spot its HOT but moving its cool.
Lucky places like the UK have had rain so not hot temps however they are strangly upset at this though I have no idea why.
Humidity Is The Killer
And acclimatization!
When you live in a place where the regular maximum is 32-33 Celsius it feels normal unless the humidity spikes. Hong Kong normally has humidity around 70-80% and you really feel it when it goes to 90-95%. Singapore is a little hotter but less humid and therefore more comfortable.
Of course the answer is air-conditioning!

Here in British Columbia we've been as high as 35 for the past 5 days. Plus at no extra charge we've had to suffer hazy smokey air from wildfires in Colorado and Siberia.

Did you read my blog on the summer monsoon South and Central AZ? Where have you been in AZ? What time of year?
Right now, in East Chandler AZ, it's 99°F = 37.2°C, dew point is 61°F and RH is 29%. I'm in SE Tempe, but the E. Chandler weather data collection point is the closest to my house, closer then central Tempe. It's forecast to be hotter, but there's been some cloudiness this morning which is just about burned off now. Tempe is just east of the South part of Phoenix, AZ's capital. (politicians here are really idiots. Bill Mahr gave them the award as the stupidest state in the US this year, based on what notable politicians have dun. Of course, like everything, Bill's just joking!)
I can report on Phoenix area weather, when I feel like it or if asked. It's easy for me to gather weather for all over the state. We have 2 small cities, and numerous smaller places, that have much nicer summer weather than we do. Prescott is at 5000 ft and Flagstaff is at 7000 ft, they are both North of us. They're much cooler because of the elevation and also sometimes have storms that come from CA, but pass North of us. Prescott is about 20°F cooler and Flagstaff about 30° cooler.
The main thing about being outdoors here in the summer is staying in the shade. Moving around, like biking, is fine in the early morning or around sunset, but I hate being out in the sun in midday and the afternoon. It's better to stay in the shade, relaxing and not burning many calories and letting the breeze cool ya. Our record high is 49.5°C and it's a lot more bearable in early June at 4% RH then in July or August at 20% RH, although at that temperature that RH difference seems to matter less. I can actually feel the RH drop as the temperature rises on some mornings; sometimes it's more comfortable when it's warmer!
