Queen of the May Pt Two

Synopsis:After suffering from an accident, a young man learns that he has been voted to be the Queen of the May by his fellow students.
[*][*][*]
Of course, we had to go to go for a walk round village. Well, in my case, I was being carried as my legs were getting tired, after which we returned home. Ms Platt would let the headmaster know how everything went and she would see us tomorrow.
Just after 4:PM. my brothers came running into house, all excited and were told to wait in the lounge quietly by Dad, he and Mum would be in to talk to them shortly. Dad came back into the kitchen to collect some soft drinks and with Mum carrying me, we went to join the boys.
Mum sat me in one of arm chairs making sure that my dress was lying flat and I was decent. Me, I was waiting for my brothers to start laughing, but they just stared at me.
After a couple of minutes, Bill the eldest came over kissed me on the cheek and said, "Welcome home sis."
He was followed by the twins: Peter and Jim who gave me a hug. I was just about make a comment, but saw Mum glaring at me, so said,"Thanks, brothers."
It was a bit unnerving with the boys looking at me all the time. They've always wanted a sister, but Mum and Dad stopped when she went through menopause.
Mum and Dad decided to go get dinner from the local fish and chip shop, leaving me alone with my brothers. After they left, Tom started to explain how I got elected as next years Queen of the May.
[*][*][*]
The student council had asked that the election not be held until I was back in hospital and the school agreed. When the headmaster asked why the students chairman said they wanted to hold a meeting with all the students first, but I wasn't to attend.
It all stemmed back to the summer holidays, it had been an unusually wet summer and the rivers and streams were swollen and fast running, somehow a toddler fell into the river and was being swept away. I was a bit downstream and jumped in after her and somehow got her close to the bank where we were both pulled onto the bank. How I managed it in leg braces even I didn't know. We were taken to hospital where she was kept in overnight and went home the next day with a clean bill of health.
I was to spend the next six weeks in hospital. At first, I had a bit of breathing difficulty which after a few days turned to pneumonia. Thanks to me being allergic to antibiotics, I almost died. The village had tried to do something special for me as a thank you, but I refused, saying it was no big deal. I thought that was end of it.
Anyway, the students took it into their own hands to honor my rescue, and it was voted unanimously that I would be next years Queen of the May.
[*][*][*]
"Why didn't they just get me a book token?"
My brothers just laughed.
I started to get angry, "Thanks a bunch! Because of a stupid idea, I was stuck in dresses for over a year!"
Bill said, "Calm down, it was a great honour."
Honour a ten year boy by sticking him in dresses for almost 17 months is no honour.
Mum and Dad came in with our meal. After we finished, the boys wanted to take me out for a walk. I started laughing at that, I wouldn't get ten yards. I forgot my wheelchair was still under the stairs until Peter dragged it out.
[*][*][*]
I was placed in the chair strapped in and off we went. We went to the cafe where a lot of kids hung out after school. We entered the cafe and found a empty corner table. Almost immediately, the girls swamped me and before I knew what was happening, they were putting makeup on me.
There was no laughter, snide comments or anything, everybody made me welcome, definitely not what I expected. Everybody was having a great time and making a fuss over me, even the boys. I started to relax until I needed to use the toilets. Yes, I was taken into ladies where I was made to do it like a girl.
[*][*][*]
We got home around 7:P.M. and I was bathed and put into bed. My legs were tired and aching a bit. I fell asleep, wondering what tomorrow would bring, surely it couldn't be worse than today.
It was about 9:A.M. when Mum got me out of bed and into the bath. It being Saturday, school was closed, and Dad was taking the boys to the watch the local football team. Once I was dressed, fed and watered, it was back into my wheelchair and into town where we were to make a day of it.
First stop was the village seamstress where they took all my measurements, I still wasn't happy about it all, but had been told not to make a fuss about it. Then it was to the city once we picked up a couple of the neighbours.
As luck would have it, somebody has a van that was fitted out for a wheelchair and Mum had borrowed it, she wasn't the best of drivers, so took her time. Me, I was glad to be out of those braces. Even though I in a wheelchair, I was looking forward to being able to walk again.
When it came to playmates I usually ended up playing with the girls, I`ll admit that I couldn't play hopscotch or skipping etc, so it was usually boardgames or dolls. But if I was on my own, I usually went for a bit of a walk or read a book. I had been wearing braces for 2 years after a tree fell on top of me after a bad storm and I ended up with shattered leg bones and muscle damage.

I was not using my advantage as her editor. I was commenting as a reader. She has not sent me any other chapters.

The maths aren't right.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
This chapter he (still no name) talks about being 15 months in girls’ clothes in regard to Mayday.
The first chapter has him at 10 years old leaving the hospital.
Xmas is about 2 weeks or so to go.
Mayday is in May the following year so he has about 5+ months to Mayday.
It was stated he would be turning 11 years old by Mayday to be eligible.
I like the story but it's a little disjointed, but that’s a minor issue.
Good luck with your story.

Yeah, the math isn't right
Three weeks to the new year, plus four months to May 1st, so that gives almost five months for him to have a birthday. Add to that the entire year he has to be the Queen (12 months); 4 months and three weeks plus 12 months and you get 16 months and three weeks he has to dress and act like a girl.
I still suspect somewhere along that time period they'll drop the hammer on him and tell him he is actually a girl, or that due to the injuries he's suffered he'll never be able to be a man (numerous variations on that). So they are acclimatizing him to the female roll. I just wonder how they got the whole town to go along with this mad scheme. Surely somebody with half a brain would say 'let the boy decide, don't try and con him or it will blow up in your faces.' If Child Services gets wind of it a BUNCH of people are in a heap of trouble!
Or is this the town of Stepford? :)

Our as yet unnamed hero, ...
... who clearly wishes "ine" isn't being added on, says it best: "Honour a ten year boy by sticking him in dresses for almost 15 months is no honour."
Why does everyone in the town hate him? But then it's a really strange school and a really strange town that would "honor" a 10 year old boy in such a way, particularly without his consent, and later, in fact, against his wishes. It's also a very strange set of parents that would allow it.
It also is pretty clear that a boy should feel honored to be chosen queen isn't a long standing town attitude/policy toward boys in general. If it was, he would, having been a town citizen all his life, most likely have accepted it and actually felt honored.
No, this is something aimed specifically at him, something he doesn't want, and something those who "honored" him most likely KNOW he doesn't want, and it's being cramed down his throat by everyone. If everyone but him knows he IS now or is shortly going to be a girl, and they are using this Queen of the May deal as an excuse to ease him into girlhood, hoping that by the end of the 15 months he'll be used to it and enjoy it to the point that when told the truth she will shout, "hooray", I'd ask, what if it doesn't work? If their is a medical reason for this, then he should have been told up front rather than letting him go through this hell.
Poor kid can't even run away. I notice no one asked him if he wanted to go to the football game; mom probably has a super girly day planned for him. I hope he just get's mad and shouts at everyone how he really feels about this honor! What'll they do then? Will the velvet glove come off?
I'd like to see a poll of all the other ten year old boys in the town to see how many of them would feel honored to be chosen Queen of the May!
BE a lady!
Since several earlier comments are so negative
I'll be the one to try and provide some positive here.
So far this isn't a bad effort at all. While it is quite far fetched, the character's attitude to this point would seem to indicate that our narrator might not be quite as opposed to the idea as he has made out, and his objections have been petulant rather than really forceful. While none of this counters the inappropriateness of forcing someone into a role they don't wish to take, these are elements that have been in numerous TG stories before, so their presence here is nothing to object to.
While I agree that the entire town's complicity is somewhat odd, especially when given many people's uncomfortableness with gender-bending in general, there have been plenty of clues that again point to the main character perhaps telegraphing some unconscious femininity. It is stated clearly that the town as a whole likes him, but that he more frequently plays with the girls than the boys.
I like the story so far, and I'm more than willing to overlook the few flaws to see where it goes, and that's saying something, since I tend to prefer my protagonists be at least 13 if I'm going to read a story.
Keep it up, I'd like to see where you take this.
Melanie E.
Hard to say where this is going... too little to go on for now..
Has the beginings of an interesting story.
Is the town having fun but not meaning him harm? Is this really intended to honor the reluctant hero? Or is it more
The child is not happy at all about this Queen of the May but may go along with it. As it stands now it is more of an embarrassment than an honor to him. He'd rather just get on with his life and learn to walk again.
Um, no burning at the stake or ritual sacrifice Queen of the May I hope? That once was the tradition.
-- grin --
His comments about play preferences and who he is friends with conflict with his stated dislike at the *May* *Honor*. His tastes, friends lean towards those of a girl. Must she become one due to injuries? Is she really one only now discovered due to the injuries and bad reaction to antibiotics. IE they did exploratory surgery to clear out a pocket of infection and found he's a she or even both or ...? I wonder if the whole set up -- it smells of a set up, the Queen of the May unanimous vote? -- is so he/she can decide who he or she wants to be without the fear of being discovered or attacked as a freak? A forced trial period as a girl to see which he or she prefers?

Maths wrong
OK I got my sums wrong, does that mean I get detention?. Oh I`ve corrected the maths error.
As for the reality , wouldn`t it be great if a town or village did exist that was so accepting. How often do you read of the Transgendered being attacked and sometimes murdered, so I used a little imagination to create my village . Is that wrong ?
It is a work of fiction it`s not reality, but then there are people that believe soaps like Coronation street and dallas are real.
Almost 1800 people have the story so far and it has been on line for 24 hours yet so I must be doing something that people like.
Jackie
Perhaps something to consider...
...between the comments and replies, I find that the thread seems not to be that the village is supporting the boy in this, but the tacit question remains "why," when it is somewhat out of the ordinary, as you even acknowledge just now. You may have thought of this already, and have answers to this and other questions that have arisen, and I apologize if you've already addressed that. But within the framework of your story, as you say, you do have many readers. It's not so much that the comments all insist you are doing something wrong, although I will say some may have given that impression. What several of the comments are saying, from my point of view is, "Here's something to think of that might help you hone your craft?" I could be wrong, certainly, and I do so hope that my comment here has been both helpful and encouraging, since I would have it no other way. And a belated welcome to you as well, dear heart.

Dear Jacquimac re maths!
I sincerely apologise if you felt my comments were in any way derogatory.
What I meant and felt was a helpful comment to correct a small error.
I don’t think detention is necessary in this case, but if you really want to we can arrange it with 50 lashes as well, with a feather whip.
I did say good luck, and am still am very keen to read this one and enjoy more of your story/stories, boy, 1800 readers’ sound great.
I thought the school getting behind him/her was a great idea considering he is a brave and obviously well liked boy.
Once again I am sorry if I offended you.

Surely it was DURING a bad storm? Well, normally, i guess... I am wondering, has this boy/girl got a hormone disparity? Is that the foundation to the plot? Or did the "little bits" get somewhat damaged at the time, and showed more medically "interesting" during the recent hospital visit (hence the many blood samples taken)?
