Well, yesterday I went to the trans group pot-luck, and it was good, but apparently, my friends there are worried about me. They told me they can see both the manic and the depression, and that I need to get it under control, or I risk something bad happening.
Now, the person I was would have said, "Serves me right for opening up. I try to be honest, and they think I'm nuts." and would have withdrawn from the group.
But I'm trying to be a better person now, and sometimes, that means I have to be able to know when people are trying to tell me hard truths to help me.
So as soon as I'm able, I'm going to visit the doc and see if there is a way to help me stabilize my moods.
Which probably means more meds, which I cant really afford, but will need anyway.
Sigh.

Oh Heck!
Sweetie,
Bipolar disorder is bad stuff. Maybe you just have a very mild case, or it's something else mimicking bipolar. I think bipolar usually hits people when they're pretty young, but I only know a fair amount about my kind of depression.
Hopefully you can resolve the problem with talk therapy. Anyway, doesn't Canadian health care pay for drugs or pay most of the cost? Have you ever thought of going to another provence? take your ex and your daughter....
I'm on US Medicare because of mental illness disability, but that health care is still fairly expensive, like $45 or more for a "name brand" (not generic) prescription drug for one month. Luckily, the state Medicaid, health care for the really poor, funds mental health care and generic drugs are free. The Drs suck however; really bottom of the barrel immigrants, mainly.
Hey, Good Luck; remember: Your positive attitude and your physical health (exercise, food, sleep, destressing) are two of the most important things going for you.
Hugs and Bright Blessings,
Renee
Oh Crap...
Is it really mania they are seeing, or is it just that your life is starting to pull together, you're making positive steps forward, becoming more confident, maybe energetic, and they see it as being manic...? Maybe it would be best to see the doc and decide with his/her help.

(just a plain ol' depressive without the manic part)

For me, the key phrase there is "trans group pot-luck" and not "qualified medical professionals". They may be right but they may not be as well. While speaking to someone about it is a good idea, try not to let it get to you and remember how far you've travelled.
