Dear Diary
Ugh. Mondays are hard enough to endure without it being immediately after a day spent being sick.
I woke up yesterday and had to run to the bathroom to puke. Just. Gross. I heaved until I couldn't and by then, I was crying and Mom was there holding my hair back and telling me it would be okay, just to go back to bed.
I rinsed my mouth out and stumbled back to bed, still crying.
I guess I fell asleep again, but when I woke up, it was just in time for Daddy to bring me a bowl of Mom's homemade chicken soup.
I hate being sick. The soup is great, but being sick is just horrible. So, I tried to read some manga that I hadn't gotten around to, but just couldn't seem to enjoy it, and fell back asleep.
The next time I woke up, it was dark outside already and Mom was just coming into my room to check on me. She sat on the side of the bed and said I was her, "poor little girl," and kissed my forehead to check and see if I still had a fever.
I did.
I didn't want to be alone and so asked her to sit with me for a bit, until I fell asleep again and she brushed my hair off of my face. She just held my hand and whispered the lullaby she used to sing to me when I was tiny.
When I woke up again, I was all sweaty, but felt better. I went and got some clean sheets, and a clean nightgown, then took a shower and went back to bed (after I changed it).
So I went to school -- why is it I never get sick on school days?!?
And then Gymnastics, which wasn't so bad but I was still a bit sore and got Daddy to rub my legs and shoulders again for me.
I guess I missed whatever Simone's surprise was.

I do understand her concern...
... I went through 7 years of schooling where I would only get sick on weekends or holidays. At the time, my friends teased me quite a bit over this. I guess it could have been worse though. It could have been my not-friends teasing me about other things. Interesting that she can go back to school so soon after illlness. Our current school district has a rule - you can't come/return to school until your feever has been below 100F/38C for 24 hours and no vomiting for 24 hours.
Still, all-in-all interesting and credible. We (I'm speeking for me, myself and I here) hope the author is feeling better, as well.

We have the same rule here, but...
in a case like this, the school would not know she had a fever, or had been vomitting, so I suspect that many parents would send her in anyway.
We also don't know whether her fever was ever over 100, it could have been low grade, and she got sick first thing in the morning, so it may have been technically over 24 hours before school started.
Doesn't make it right, but it is definitely realistic.
Enjoying the glimpses into Courtney's life.
Dear Courtney
Dear Courtney,
Being sick, SUCKS. I hate throwing up. I do everything I can to keep from throwing up, even if it means I'll be sick longer. Chicken soup is good, but I like Potatoe soup when I'm sick better. Soft bits of taters, in a buttery creamy soup with a bit of onion for bite, garlic for sweetness and bacon for flavor. Mmmmmm Mmmmmm. Maybe I'll make some now. ;)
What ever Simone's suprise is, I'm sure she'll make sure you get it.
Hugs,
Snoops
