How is it in Boston for T folk?
Astonishingly, I have been asked to accompany a young college couple to Boston while they finish work on their respective Masters Degrees. My friend jokes about needing her English Nanny to help her care for her child to be born in June or July. If this seems a little sublime to you, then imagine what I am thinking. I worry about really having gone round the bend. I have asked them thrice over to think about this matter very seriously as it would hurt me greatly should they decide other wise at the last minute; even had a bit of tears over it. GAH!
It is simply wonderful that she would want me in her life, and yes my presence near them could help them substantially just in the cost of child care services. If this does in fact work out, I see it as a rare chance for a limited do over in my life. I am still feeling very reserved about it, however.
Perhaps it all began with the English house mate of Punjabi descent who stayed with me early this summer. I so enjoyed her stay and I seem to have accumilated a considerable vocabulary in "propahly" spoken English. That along with reading the stories of the considerable number of English authors here, I seem to have adopted the ways of the Brits, or have gone a bit wonkie, but as it matters little to me which, I intend to enjoy myself.
I have been told repeatedly that my natural healthy state includes a high capacity for adventure. Now I need to research the availability of affordable housing near Northeastern, see what the cost of living is like in comparison to Portland, and all sorts of other things that I have not thought of yet.
I will greatly appreciate any help that you can offer in this somewhat frighening undertaking.

Which Boston?
I assume you mean the new Boston in the states?
Sorry can't help you on that one, but the old Boston is four miles up the road...
Boston
Hi Gwen,
From what I understand, it isn't cheap to live in Boston. You might try www.boston.com (Boston Globe newspaper) and try their classified ads for apartments. With the amount of colleges and universities in Boston, it might be hard to find a place. You might try outside the city and either drive or take the "T" into the city. The "T" is what they call the trains and subways in Boston. You also might try www.apartments.com and put in your particulars and let it search their listings. You might find something.
As to TG in Boston, I am not sure. I haven't done any research on the subject. You might try googling it.
Whatever you are able to find out, good luck and best wishes.

Boston...
We have both Tri-ESS and rainbow groups in Boston, however... TG exceptance is umm... ZONED? some areas are safe for even not to well passing, others, even natural looking (IE GG ) are not safe and just forget about mentioning your TG. There are quite a few TG/Lez/& Gay clubs however if night-life is your thing.
I live in SE Mass and have been to the 'B' many times.
Bad news is, any place nice to live will cost big $$$$$ Rat holes start @ $1,200.00 per month plus utility, plus deposit, ref's.... your first child.... NOW... just forget about parking your car! on streets with buildings to house 600 warm bodies? got possibly parking for 250 of them, see? And, I hope you don't care to much for your car, as it will sone get dents.... unless you drive an expensive type, then, maybe it will just get stripped. The high end places have off-street locked-gate style parking. The burbs would be the better bet. Stay away from the south end though! west/ north west OK, forget the N East as traffic/ bridge / airport issues come into play.
Just some thoughts from a native....
My Mom's Family Is From New England
My mom's family is from New England. She was born in Malden, Mass and grew up in Groton and Chelmsford. My grandparents told me many times about Roxbury and what a bad neighborhood it was. My dad was stationed at Ft. Devens during the 60's and he let a buddy borrow his car. The idiot took it down to West Roxbury and parked it. They had to go there and get it and fortunately it was still in one piece. I have been up there to visit many times and I saw the cost of living the same way. It is way too high and taxes are outrageous. My grandmother pays property tax on a mobile home that sits on a tiny lot in Jaffrey N.H. It is $1,500 a year for something that is probably not worth $15,000. People hear there is no sales tax in New Hampshire, but there is a big catch. They rip you a new one on vehicle taxes as well as the aforementioned property tax on homes.
