Its weird to have a revelation about yourself at 55.

But I did yesterday, as I finally realized I am super tactile.

I'm always stroking my blankets, or my stuffed toys, or just about anything I can reach.

Thing is, even now being able to acknowledge this, I still have no clue why I do this.

ah, well.

"Soft, warm, and furry ...

... just like Mom."

Well, maybe only 2 out 3 of these for our personal Mom's for the last 100,000 years ...

For the last few hundred million years our first comfort, safety, and food thingy has been Mom. So liking 'soft, warm, (and furry)' is "wired" very deep.

This was one of my 'take-aways' from Desmond Morris's book "The Naked Ape".

And it 's why my bed blankets, teddy bear, and my hooded fleece bathrobe are all fuzzy.

Women are just more tactile creatures. I know that applies for me.

I wonder ...

... if that's the reason women's clothing tends to be softer, silkier, and just nicer feeling than most men's clothing. Or maybe clothing designers assume they aren't interested in how clothes feel, so they don't bother using material that feels nice?

Self Soothing

Self soothing is common in cases of childhood neglect. It does not hurt anyone else, and helps your comfort level, so no problem. Occasionally it is reinforced by well meaning parents or other care givers when they try to control it. I'm not saying that's what yours is. Just saying that I have experience with it.
