I just finished a chapter and had gotten up to lock my kitchen (my cousin will raid it if I don't), and my wife asked me to help her out. She's got a migraine so bad that we ended up in the ER. She's never had a migraine before, so seemed like the most prudent move. Now I'm sitting in an overheated room and waiting.
Quick update the doc just came in, so giving Norma a few meds.

Migraine comes in various degrees
Some experience a throbing debilitating headache. Others can't stand any light as they wait it out in a dark room or with a pillow over their head. Some a combination of both. My vision gets blurry along with the killer headache but I can still be mobile, barely. Four excedrin, four tylenol with a glass of milk to buffer all that and I can still function. I know don't take more than two of only one kind. Those "experts" never had a migraine. Some poor souls need a knockout shot just to survive, which means a doctor.
Rose if she's fortunate this will be her only migraine. Sadly for most of us they come like clockwork, every week, or one every couple weeks, or possibly once a month, or longer in between. Mine aren't like clockwork, they are random. Thankfully they announce themselves before striking as my eyesight gets blurry and then the fun begins.
You do know it's mostly a female problem? Men generally don't get migraines. I guess PMS, child birthing, wasn't enough fun for the fairer sex?

I got them while in college.
I got them while in college. I would have to hide out in my dorm room, and hope the rest of the guys didn't play human pinball outside my door. Light and noise were my enemies when I had them.
Home now. Gonna try an experiment and see if I can obtain that elusive sleep thing. I hope so.

Who told you
"Men generally don't get migraines." Hogwash! Most of the migraine sufferers I know are male, starting with my oldest brother! I think it's equal opportunity, anybody can get them.

I am one of those rare male victims of the Migraine
For me it was almost always a triple attack.
Pain and Throbbing (Felt like me head as a cord of firewood being split by a jackhammer on my Head)
Sensitivity to light (Any small amount of light felt like I had a spotlight shining in my eyes)
Sound Sensitivity (Felt like a mouse fart would be loud and clear across the room)
My Migraines have always been random but high stress would almost always set them off. I was diagnosed in high school after they became real bad after my first major concussion on the football field. they have been much less frequent in the last few years. but every one I ever suffered was pure agony. And Most people just can not understand how debilitating they are. They would always say "it's a headache get over it, life will not stop for you".

I was also very light
I was also very light sensitive and while I was in Vancouver, BC, I felt I could hear a pin drop in Atlanta GA, without the help of Sprint's fiberoptic telephone system. Until it would leave, I would lay down on my bed, my head covered to filter out ALL possible light, and my ears covered so I could hear absolutely no sound.
Of course, living in a men's dorm, anything producing copius amounts of sound could, and usually did, happen.
It's almost 1 PM here, and she's up and around. The drapes are drawn, but she's doing pretty well. Yay!

Like some articles report
As early as three years of age. Some of us have been dealing with this since we were kids. My father refused to turn down the lights. And vomiting, as bad as it already is, makes a migraine so much worse. I've had a few over a lifetime that I was convinced would never end after over a day of that pain.

I hope that it was just a one-off
I can go for weeks without a migraine and then have to deal with them for 2 or 3 days. From what I have seen, I am one of the rare ones that does not experience light or sound sensitivity. I just go blind for about 45 minutes before dealing with the headache itself. I think I would trade the headache for the light and sound sensitivity.
