I am curious. Theres been a number of stories and books about an ambitious girl piloting against a favored brother in a monarchy type male dominated society and turning him into a girl so she is suddenly favored and she seizes the throne from him
And they are cool stories and I am enjoying him
but im thinking of another type of story.
How about an unloved boy prince and his father in a royal family plots against his favored younger sister who has been named the heir in an oppressive matriarchy society where only females can rule. So he and a group of male witches turn his younger sister into a boy to show her what it is like to live as a boy in such a cruel society
and he is a very powerful witch or wizard and the women hate boys like him and they usually hunt and kill male witches
could such a story really work. Or would it just seem like a bunch of bully guys plotting against a young girl here

It's still the same ole plot
Oppressed changes oppressor into member of oppressed; may include a swap in the opposite direction.

Yes but...
As Gumby stated it is a tried and true plot but ...The changes are done in the opposite way as most the stories here so it has some merit.
Now if you could put a twist to it to make it a bit more original, it could have even more merit in it.
The plot is that he is the oldest sibling in this matriarchal society and the only reason he will not become the ruler is her is male? So turning the younger sister into a boy really solves nothing, as then there would be no princess to take over the crown.
But what if a group of men turned the eldest son into a girl after spending years teaching him to think and act as they do. With him now being the oldest female child, she would now be next in line for the crown. Now they have a ruler to be that will do things their way.
The twist could be that the new girl, slowly discovers that their society functions perfectly well the way it is and much better without any male orientated influence. And she becomes an even better ruler than her younger sister would have become.

well with no princess they would have to crown the oldest male
Or no one. And with a little show of force from the princes supporters they could do it. Especially after transforming the younger girl into a boy.
But the raising the oldest boy as a girl from the start to take the crown is an intriguing idea. All while knowing he is a boy, and only doing it to trick the women into giving him the crown
With no princess...
If the society would have allowed a male ruler in the first place, then the older prince would not have had to have his younger princess sister changed into a boy. With no female direct descendant the crown would be passed to the next closest female relative.
One thing to remember is the biggest plot hole in this type of story (and it's a duesy!) is that it would be much easier to stage an accident where the sibling is killed. So you want the story to be as entertaining and make as much sense as possible so the readers don't sit around and asked "Why didn't they just kill him/her?"
Remember the Queen's original plan to get rid of Snow White was to have her killed. It was after the woodsman failed to kill her that the plot to get rid of her became more elaborate.

its not so much as allowing it as seizing it
and the reason this story I am writing works so well in the plot is that the male war god has grown so weak. the goddess power has grown so much that her followers are showing immense power. So they seize power though his sister and the priests cant do anything against this force against them
then their temple falls and the witches show they are very powerful and people dont stand against them
its also aided by the fact that the people are sick of the priests brutality. They have lost the peoples support so they almost welcome the prince being struck down and turned into a woman
I can see ryans plot working if the people, a number of men and women are getting very tired of the witches brutality and are eager to see them fall. Perhaps they have sons they would love to see be able to rise to their full potential. I can see that
and for the force, if this prince and his supporters show they are very powerful and can fight to retain what they stole. Like in the original plot Pattenia and her supporters showed their power in how they retained the throne against repeated attacks
I do not really know
The reason the original plot works so well is the elder sister in this tale was so large and strong for a woman. She was almost like a man and could fight, and was so masculine and athletic as a woman the army and the nobles rallied to her when she began leading the army.
So for this plot line to work in a woman lead society where femininity is seen as a strength, not masculine power
the older brother would have to be small, and possibly TG or at least very effeminate to get the society to support him over his sister that he usurped and overthrew
Or else the other women would not tolerate it at all
It is very Amazonian.
Though in those tribes, they either abandon the male children, or give them to the father to raise, since they have no interest in them. And in their case, they don't marry. Rather they just have random flings to get what they want ( sperm).
An interesting possibility would be if a transgendered Amazon came to the realization that they were a boy in the wrong body, that would be interesting.
Transgender Amazonian story
I actually wrote one about a trans boy growing up among Amazons
and feeling VERY alienated in a society that considered men evil.
although these Amazons were the ones from Wonder Woman:

Yup
Absolutelly, by doing this you would most likely be targetting the FTM's, whom do not have the same amount of cattered stories in comparison to MTF. I think it could work

princess in a new world..or something
almost that plot line. just that the young boy king was turned into younger sister and abused while older sister siezed throne.
if you want to make it different yea sure go ahead.
Perfectly fine
Yes, I think what you outlined would be perfectly fine as the basis for a story.
However, if your premise is that people are being hunted and killed, I'd expect someone to die. Sorry! But if you're going to make the threat, you ought to make it real.
If you're afraid that people might take the story in a way that you don't mean -- well, unfortunately, that happens. Still, if you like the idea, especially if it scares you, you ought to write it.
