Ghek felt the trembling and knew the time had come.
He began to separate himself from his rykor, then stopped. "His rykor," the words rang harshly in Ghek's mind. They had been companions for centuries. He knew on more than one occasion it had saved his life while taking near fatal wounds. Who was he to abandon his companion at the last. It was a strange feeling as he felt his life begin to slip away too. Then with one last effort the rykor took Ghek in hand, severing the bond forever. Ghek finally understood the meaning of 'love.'

For the ERBList.com. Those of you who are Edgar Rice Burroughs fans might recognize Ghek as a Kaldane from The Chessmen of Mars. It was my intro to writing a drabble.

Quite interesting
and exactly 100 Words.
Ooph ...
Nice.
My MS Word clone says 99 words, one short of a 'drabble'. Add a word, and get "double credit' for a drabble. :)
It feels like there can be so many stories built before, and even after, this one ...
oops ... my word processor counts hypen-ated as 1 word..
Oops ... Word processors vary in how they count. LibreOffice Writer counts hypen-ated words as 1 word..
To avoid the confusion over hyphenation
I removed the hyphen and another word. The count should be 100 in any word processor now.
